Apple hates "future-proofing", they'd rather send stuff to the toxic waste dump

Given that your system can't utilize the hub on the back of a Apple Thunderbolt Display, you would be better off with a couple of Apple LED Cinema Displays.

Seriously - if you were buying a monitor today for your Mac Pro - wouldn't you want to buy a current ATD rather than a soon to be obsolete dead-end ACD?

I would want to buy the most recent/best display that is actually compatible with the system in use.

The ACD still works with Thunderbolt Macs so it will work with subsequent Mac purchases.

Honestly, I prefer displays with a matte finish so I most likely wouldn't buy either of the two.

Also, What difference does it make if your system doesn't support the features of the new display?

Both are 27" IPS LED displays. The actual panel in the display is the most important spec of the display.

The only relevant difference for that poster is the HD camera.

I would actually suggest that the poster just wait until the MBP is purchased before doing the display upgrade.

Whatever display that is in use with the Mac Pro has sufficed until now. I am pretty sure it will suffice until the MBP purchase.

let me fix that

For me, it would be:

I would be forced to buy the most recent/best display that is actually compatible with the system in use, rather then the most recent/best display that will work with the next generation of systems.

Why on earth would I want to spend $1000 for a monitor that will most likely be useless (or at least replaced) at the next Mac Pro rev in a short time?

Apple gives us what they want to give us, not what we want or what the market norm is, ie, Firewire, Thunderbolt, and no USB3 or BluRay. Always an odd port that requires a $29.00 adapter to do something mainstream, etc etc.

I just broke down tonight after my mini DVI to VGA (I think) to HDMI adaptor fell off the back of my Mini yet again. :rolleyes:

Monoprice MDP to HDMI with USB audio cable (since my model's pre 2010) for $30 ordered.

All I needed was a freaking HDMI port in the back for one single cable to the TV. Sigh.
