Admirable but after Red Cross botched Haiti relief last time (millions in donations- RC said it assisted housing hundreds of thousands and an investigation revealed only 6 homes were built) you'd think a better relief organization might be offered as an alternative.

Nice job Apple, make a big splash about helping hurricane victims so you can remain silent and divert some attention away from more law firms joining the class action lawsuit over the iPhone 6 'Touch Disease'.

So the small text on the donation page that says "This donation may not qualify for any tax deduction or tax benefit", no response to that? Do you know why it says that? Because Apple is already claiming it.

And the text you quoted from the IRS ...
For any contribution of $250 or more (including contributions of cash or property), you must obtain and keep in your records a contemporaneous written acknowledgment from the qualified organization indicating the amount of the cash and a description of any property contributed.

That Qualified Organization means the red Cross, not Apple

There is a pretty big difference between "may not" and "does not."

Exactly what i was thinking. In fact its a bit of an insult for Apple to be asking for money when Apple has so much of the green stuff to be able to directly give to those affected. I do have the suspicion that its a tool for Apple to dodge tax revenue as some posters have already pointed out.

I always think that.

Can you imagine a millionaire standing next to a starving man on the street, asking passing members of the public to please give him some money, so he can buy the starving guy a meal.
That's Apple!

Apple isn't asking for money, Red Cross is asking for money. Apple is just providing a medium for donations. I guess doing nothing is better?

Apple could also help with their multi billion dollar fortune.

Talk about exploiting the victims of disaster for PR. Why should the richest company in the world ask ordinary people to donate money? Apple can take a billion out of petty cash right now and start helping, then the rest of us little people can follow.

How about F.OFF ??

yes Apple should donate an ipad for everyone and build decent WIFI. How much they get back from taxes?

Please donate to one of these instead for more meaningful impact:

If you just want to feel good about yourself please donate to the American Red Cross

Direct Relief has a very good Charity Navigator rating - directrelief.org

NO ONE should be donating to the Red Cross after they received $500m for the Haiti earthquake relief, but only built six houses.

Not forgetting the nearly 1,000 Haitians who lost their lives...

Exactly, I think they need the money more than the US people who will probably get help from the US government and insurance claims. The poor people of Haiti have lost everything.

Sadly Apple are not known for their philanthropic behaviour. A tiny portion of their multi-billion dollar cash pile could help so many people, but Tim Cook doesn't care. They're only interested in their greedy self-interest.

The Haitian government themselves said not to donate to the red cross. They are a useless and awful organisation and i really don't know why people still use them. I rather freeze to death than allow their blankets touch my skin if I were in a disaster.

Does anyone else remember how the Red Cross, Clinton Foundation, and others fleeced donors during the last Haitian crisis (see earthquake)?

Shaun, do you have any concept of why, how, and what a publicly traded company does with its money?

I do Dan, and there are plenty of corporations who give handsomely to charity. I know there are plenty that don't but it would it be nice if Apple was a good citizen rather than a bad one as they are now. Giving away money would suit Apple's methods as it's a good way of avoiding tax and we all know how they like to dodge their tax responsibilities.

Every Apple product should have stamped on the back "designed in California by evil greedy tax dodging corporate bastards".

From https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ana-flood-relief.1988883/page-2#post-23260477 where pretty much the whole discussion that is taking place in this thread has already happened weeks ago:
Some discussion of that is in an article at https://www.macrumors.com/2012/02/02/apples-town-hall-meeting-emphasized-corporate-philanthropy/ and likely various others as the article is already a number of years old and doesn't really cover many other things like donations for various disasters, like https://www.macrumors.com/2012/11/0...merican-red-cross-for-hurricane-sandy-relief/ or https://www.macrumors.com/2014/08/08/apple-china-quake-donation/ and various other efforts.

I want to thank the author for including the Red Cross logo in the article so that I knew I didn't have to read a single word. What an absolute piece of #$%^ charity.
