They really just don't care. Remember in the old days when the page hero image was replaced with the donation request? This is just a button hidden below the scroll line. The marketing department is just trying to score some points. I bet if this was an India tragedy of some sort it would be the whole page....just saying.

Apple if you care at all...how about some matching donations to help customers in need.
Apple caring about others is not incumbent on whether or not said company acts in a manner you agree with.

How about you matching funds of MacRumors members who give to those in need? After all, if you cared at all...

It is amazing how many here are taking the time to bash Apple for doing something good.

This thread isn't about whether or not Apple employees are focusing more of their efforts on product development etc.

This thread isn't about whether or not Apple gives an amount of money to charity to those in need, that the select few here at Macrumors see fit to overanalyze and disparage, because Apple is a large corporation.

This thread is about making people aware of the need in Louisiana. If you would like to give to those in need via the manner posted, please do. If not, there are other ways that you can help, instead of nitpicking and bashing Apple.

How are they useless? I had a friend whose house burned down and she and her family barely made it out alive. The Red Cross was there for them and got them taken care of the first few days before their insurance and all of us friends could get on the ball and get clothes and stuff to them.

No doubt, the Red Cross has proven useful in short term, quick response, highly localized scenarios. What it seems incapable of doing is operating efficiently nor effectively on large scale, long term projects. The recent revelations of their efforts in Haiti stand as a good example of that. The level at which they compensate their executives (especially when you measure that against their massive bungling) and accuracy of their reporting on funds distribution has also been called into question.

These donations would not be necessary if Tim Cooke and executives brought the Apple profits back into the United States and paid taxes on them as morality dictates. Looking for tax loopholes only benefit the executives who get bonuses. The stockholders (owners) don't see anything.

After all Apple is a US company where the executives and majority of employees live. Those executives have benefits massively from the government funded infrastructure. From the roads they and the employees drive on to the immunizations that they are protected with that were funded by NIH grant research. To the DARPA funded internet that Apple built so much business using, and those GPS that let the iPhones tell Apple customers why are. Yes those taxes would fund FEMA and National Guard that help those citizens that have experienced disasters.

From what I've read, all these overseas profits are already "physically" back in US banks and being used. Once they get a tax holiday they can just reconcile the books with reality.

Because we've often seen funds that the government has actually get used for what they are supposed to and not all kinds of other things, right? That's a rhetorical question, as it's essentially off topic anyway.

Id love to see stats on how much the tech giants actually donate.
Some discussion of that is in an article at https://www.macrumors.com/2012/02/02/apples-town-hall-meeting-emphasized-corporate-philanthropy/ and likely various others as the article is already a number of years old and doesn't really cover many other things like donations for various disasters, like https://www.macrumors.com/2012/11/0...merican-red-cross-for-hurricane-sandy-relief/ or https://www.macrumors.com/2014/08/08/apple-china-quake-donation/ and various other efforts.

Good to see apple putting these up, and food to see its on the iTunes and app stores.

http://www.apple.com

If you go Apple's web site, you will see this (screenshot) at the bottom where you can click to donate. It seems pretty obvious Apple is trying to get the word out on this to help raise money.

Do you seriously think Apple is taking a 30% fee for this or are you just trolling?

It's not uncommon for organizations to take a cut from donations so I could see how that question may be legitimate.

I'm actually more interested how the tech giants like Microsoft , apple , Google etc compare when it comes to regular donation activities. To get an idea of what percentage they give. And that excludes being the middleman.

It's interesting that apple does not allow apps to collect money for charity purposes. It would be a convient and safe way to contribute

Wow that's a deep read, with loads of links inside. I have often wondered about these mega relief agencies which is why I mentioned I wish Apple could also link to other vetted charities helping in the area.

MR forum members turn disaster relief into a reason to complain in 3..2..oh, wait, already happened.
Exactly! If you don't like MR or Apple then go to another site. If you don't like The Red Cross, then make yourself useful and go to Louisiana and help out! Geez

Are you serious? With Apple's presence and immense customer base they have the power to motivate people to donate that otherwise might not. Amazing you think that Apple is taking 30% off the top.

No worries, you don't have to donate or lift a finger to help, but carry on and feel free to slag on Apple for stepping up.

It WOULD be nice for you to do a bit of research before quickly assuming they don't.
Yea?? They actually fed poor people?

o_O When did I say I cared at all about the cause? Who said I wanted to help? You are making a lot of assumptions here. I am not the one asking people to donate money and giving them a portal to do so. Apple wants me to help but doesn't seem to care enough to do anything itself other than throw a link up that costs them $0.00. And not even a good link at that.

Let's not kid ourselves about Apple "doing good". Apple isn't doing squat...the marketing department is putting on a show for you so that you associate "helping the world" with the iPhone....and it looks like it worked. This is in the same boat as the deceptive green energy claims. This gets everyone to defend Apple to the death and buy more iPhones. Gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling.

This thread is not about "awareness" of Louisiana, this is about Apple posting a link on their site and asking for your money for a cause. It contains responses from people about the subject who have opinions on the subject. If you are looking for an article that is designed to raise awareness about Louisiana by MacRumors...this is not it.

Even just doing this is certainly more than "doing squat".

And then there's also all that has been brought up before at in post #32 and post #36.

I think this article should belong to politic section...

and I love clicking "ignore" on certain people..it makes the forum more peaceful.

It's more like it shouldn't belong there and that people don't need to be politicizing everything (in many cases just because and for no other reason).

Sigh, another ad for the Red Cross, one of the most useless relief organizations. Is this something Apple does reflexively? Can't they choose some other aid organization?

YES - "Live aid charity"
and apple could sponsor 'Live Aid 3' Bob, Midge and all, very kool for June 2017.
