Your smart tv apps are undeniably slower than an Apple TV.

Lord no. My Apple TV box is the lag monster. With the time it takes to startup the Apple TV, change sources on the TV, and then navigate on the Apple product, I can already be watching a movie on my Smart TV. Plus, it's one universal remote, so no searching for the tiny, one-function Apple remote.

And significantly less flexible.

Seriously? What's to be flexible? You're watching a movie for goodness sake.

Not just slower, but horrible UI. My TVs and BD players have Prime Video, that doesn't mean I want to watch it.

Again, you're watching a movie. The UI consists of navigating an app bar and pushing a button. Not that challenging. You guys really are mega Apple fans. I always thought that my Apple TV was the PITA to navigate and work. My 2nd gen Apple TV has been demoted to being neatly curled up in a box in the closet.

The day that Apple comes out with their own SmartTV is the day I will take another look at Apple's TV efforts. For now, a separate box (whether it be Roku, Amazon, Chrome, or Apple) is just so yesterday.

To late.. already cancelled my prime account a while ago. The constant fighting between apple and amazon is just craziness. One day this app will work and the next it will be pulled for some non-logical reasoning. Rather just use my netflix account and leave it at that. Plus with other free services like Pluto, there's lots to watch. Commercials don't bother me at all when it's free programming.

You clearly don't shop for anything on Amazon.com -- I was Prime long before I even realized they offered video. Has paid for itself several times over in shipping perks and other benefits. Video is just an afterthought for most I'd say ...

That's why I originally got it.. to have items shipped quickly. But there's other places online with cheaper prices even with shipping costs so then I realized I didn't need items shipped as fast. I used the video features for a while but without Apple TV connections it was pretty useless. And like I said, apple vs amazon garbage gets old quickly. So to me this app is a lost cause at this point.

The apple tv 4 and 4k start up within seconds... one press of my apple remote turns my tv on and switches to correct input, turns on apple tv and turns on my soundbar (and controls its volume). Tiny yes, one function? uh... no. My experience with smart TVs have been with Sony/Android and it is god awful. frustrating to even find the app you're looking for. They list a bunch of suggested apps first then a section of what you've supposedly installed so sometimes you see the same app twice and I swear things are in different places every time I use it.

UI might not matter to you if you are only occasionally watching something on Netflix or Prime, but I don't have cable. The Apple tv is the basis of my media consumption so UI becomes very important. As for a separate box being so yesterday, I tend to keep my TVs for about 10 years. Much easier to upgrade an external box than deal with an outdated smart TV in a few years. The technology for these "outdated" boxes will grow exponentially compared to the screen on your TV.

I installed the app and played around with it, what I would like Amazon to implement is multiple profiles, so that kids and the parents don't have to share the watch list.

Different folks, different strokes. I feel the opposite about TV apps, once bitten twice shy.

Is there an English word for „Klugscheißer“?

Ballpoint pen? Wait, no, that's Kugelschreiber.

You know it's possible to program a different remote to work the Apple TV, right? Also, as stated elsewhere, the Siri remote can handle it all in one press of a button.
