Of course the bought company will lose their identity, and side business that Apple isn't interested in will go away, but the company will live on as part of Apple.

I don't think that Apple buys companies to shutdown them but one example of one company bought and disappeared (until now) is Lala

Yeah, but it doesn't count because Apple take something and make it better, whereas Google copy something and just use it to collect your data. Apple won't collect your data at all, because that's not their business*

*Unless you count iAds, in which case it kinda is their business.

Yup..sure worked with SIRI...

Please enlighten us with an example or two.

That's a fantasy of some of the worse Apple "fans" ("why don't they just buy XYZ and shut it down"), but I cannot think of any case where Apple bought any company with that intent. Of course the bought company will lose their identity, and side business that Apple isn't interested in will go away, but the company will live on as part of Apple.

What about LALA and Sparrow ? That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more if you care to look

Let's hope so, because they're doing little else! Name ONE decent product launch or update, other than the (limited non retina) iPad Mini within the last 3 or 4 years?

Mac tv - left on the shelf

Agreed but where do they take it?
A la cart cable? Can only do so much w/o content providers.

iMac - reduced functionality due to obsession re thinness

What reduced functionality?
Optical? Laughable.
Most (IE non nerds) rarely use their optical drive.
From the sound of it you just want one to rip movies.

iMac mini - expensive, no optical, lost media ctr opportunity due to lack of bluray or tv tuner

See AppleTV comment.
Sure there is no built in MC interface but that isn't Apple's game.
Apples game is providing the platform and letting developers do the heavy lifting RE applications - see Plex.

Powermac - do Apple still sell these?

No and they haven't for many many years. Mac Pro? Legit comment.

iPod - expensive, entry level models designed for 5 year olds

Huh?

iPhone - competitors have blasted past!

Care to elaborate.

iPad - expensive and no real change in the past x years

Change what??? You want a hexagon?

OS. - where shall I start?

The OS offerings by Apple do exactly what they are designed to do, get out of the way and provide a platform for developers.

Street View

I like Apple maps, but the need a street view. That is a killer feature of Google's and I'm not sure how they can implement this other than mimicking what Google did.

Yeah, and people will say they copied Android

LOL. Just wait until Samsung creates their own fork of Android.
And calls it "Galaxy OS." Then we'll see some REAL finger-wagging. :D

Seems you were in (high need) a hurry.:p

2.3 m/s x 3.6 = 8.28 Km/h, you're (almost) running.

How about this:
