Finally some common sense. I completely agree. And besides battery life.. it also junks things up. I don't need or want widgets or info on the lock screen. These are reasons I've always liked iOS.

Then don't use them, if they're offered.

while you're at it apple, how about mms that doesn't suck? You know, that feature a $20 phone does better... and actually animates things instead of giving you a frame by frame slide show.

And who cares if some of you don't want widgets. You don't have to use them. We're not 2. We know turning on features hit the battery.

wish lists

I don't use notifications much but certainly see how much they can be improved. Don't much care for the graphics either.

I am surprised that a decent search app hasn't been mentioned in anyone's wish list. I would like to be able to find "bisbee" in all fields in Contacts, Calendar, Notes. Even sweeter if I could search 3rd party apps too.

Spotlight can do this now, except for all fields on Contacts - it just searches the name. Access it by swiping right on the home screen.

I guess it is searching the note field in Contacts and all of Notes that I miss. This will be less of an issue as I migrate further from my Palm. I loved that I could search for something and it would find it anywhere.

No, it doesn't search content in third party apps. Even PalmOS had an sdk so third party apps could return results to the global search function. Long overdue on iOS.

Which is also why this new rumor is so strange. Why hire some random indie developer if they already have in-house talent like that?

Takes more than One guy to make a feature that can be reliable and used by all developers. Apple have in-house talent what they are lacking a capacity. You can increase that without some break in flow.

You have these guys who clearly know the current system very well. So they could drop in to the team/s in capacities that where they can be productive a lot sooner than someone who hasn't been working on a system like theirs plus they know they are keen to work on that sort of thing.

I actually loved the iphone sms popup notifications. I got an android phone now and it doesnt have any popup notification when you get an incoming text. You have to manually turn on the phone and look for a tiny envelope in the upper left corner to see if you have an incoming text. I've missed so many important texts because of no instant popup notifications.

1) On Android, you can get a notification sound when an SMS comes in. Did you turn those on in Settings - Sounds?

2) If you want visual popups, did you go to the Android Market and search for "SMS popups" ? If not, try it. Lots of options there, including an app called... wait for it... "SMS Popup" (see below) which even lets you reply right there without leaving the current app.

Android is extensible. Learn your phone. Search the market. Have fun!
