Wow some people really have no idea what they are talking about or maybe they are just trolls...

But I've been using Logic since 2.6 and this is some of te most exciting news since Apple bought Emagic!!

Very excited by this!!!

Exactly!! Same here 2.6! lol

I'm a user...

Let me explain something about Redmatica products. I am a user of these products, almost every day. I create sample libraries for a living and I use Keymap, AutoSampler, and GBSamplerManager and this app, in no way, is a toy. This is a very, very professional app and is the absolute best app for editing samples. Kontakt, Halion, EXS can't touch it's ease of use.

I am happy that Apple is expanding Logic and this is definitely a good inclusion for those who know about it.

I'm sad though as I use the app to convert to different formats to include my sample libraries for other formats. I'm almost positive that Apple will kill that.

So it's a bitter sweet for me....I love Apple, but I have a feeling they don't know what to do with it and will totally ruin a good piece of software!

how long to integrate?

I'm a Redmatica user now so I'm applauding the acquisition.

I was kind of hoping for some Logic update soon - versions 8 and 9 both came out about a month or two before a major OS update. (never could figure out how this was sensible).

I'm a guy who used to do a LOT of sound design (I'm the maker of the TX81Z's LatelyBass sound - who woulda thought?), but my thinking now, as it was then, is that folks don't get into sound design - heck, even mapping samples is guru mode for the 99%.

So... this isn't an acquisition for revenue stream, and... of itself it doesn't add features to Logic for those of us who already purchased the Redmatica tools...

so... if this isn't about saving money for the 99% who aren't going to use this because they're still syncing their MPCs up to Logic...

what's it really for? what's the killer feature we're missing that could be realized by using Redmatica technology, but then for something other than EXS editing and file management?

I'm wondering if they've got something else up their sleeve, that might take a while to integrate, or further develop should the acquisition have centered around another, as-of-yet unreleased Redmatica title...

Hmmm....

"You can make a lot of music with just a little Logic"

It doesn't look like some folks here know what this software is. As a redmatica customer, lemme help.

This software cut its teeth on sample management and creation. For those of us professional sound designers and composers with MASSIVE amounts samlples and huge libraries for our EXS24 (the native logic sampler) managing all those files and keeping them optimized can be a major chore. Especially if you use external or additional internal drives.

redmatica sample managers have been a Godsend with regards to Logic. Apple acquiring this tells me that the manager may possibly be integrated, thereby furthering the development of Logic Pro. This, folks, is an AWESOME acquisition. Kinda like when apple first acquired Logic from a little German company called Emagic... It was the best thing to happen to the software.

Logic Pro users are stoked, trust me.

My first reaction was that this might reduce the "Apple kills its pro user base" threads by 62%.

It also might reduce complaint intensity to less than 10 oph (ouch per hour).

I was pretty excited when I saw the news. I just assumed we'd get those great Redmatica functions built into Logic for free in the next version. The other ideas here never really occurred to me and I'm not really buying them. Apple probably wants to hire their talent too.

If you look at the Redmatica apps they do have a bit of play in Video editing as well. I could see this being something that eventually moves across Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro X.

I think it's to have some kind of pitch flex feature.
The sampling organising will be good as welll but logic needs a better pitch editor.
It should buy melodyne and get the DNA stuff too.
+ they should buy IK multimedia as logic guitar amps sound like guitar rig 1 coming out of a 1cm speaker placed inside a glass jar!
I love logic but they need to make it slicker to use. It takes too long to get around it without memorising 1200 button combinations into muscle memory. (hardly the apple way)
+ where is the iPad app for logic? It would be amazing for quick piano roll edits, sample editing, plugin settings, mixing, hell pretty much everything.
Even an iPhone transport bar would do at a pinch.
I thought that the option of integrating mobile devices into pro apps would be one of the first thing apple would have done.
Hasn't stopped a million other companies doing it!
Oh yeah and buy apogee so you could put a half decent DAC in the iPhone/iPod/iPad as all my music sounds crap with my ultimate ear headphones on.
Apples products are what a large portion of the world is listening to music on. At least don't cripple the flagship model portable audio devies with 3p DACs.
Id love a week going round every apple department telling them what they should implement next!
Rant off.
Flex pitch I'm telling you!

This is wondrous awesome news. Not for users of other DAWs but for Logic users.

SO awesome.

Bottom Line:

With a single fart you'll be able to have said fart instantly truncated and keymapped across a full 88 keys; perfectly pitched with adjustable attack and decay times.

It just does'nt get any better...........

The simple facts

This will be integrated into Logic Pro and maybe garageband. For Logic users
such as myself this is great news and will only make Logic Pro better. Users
of other Digital Audio Software will be very unhappy because Redmatica
will no longer be available to them. :( I currently use Redmatica and highly recommend it. In the future I will no longer have to pay extra $ for it. :)

yes

And the only solution is for people who are not informed is to shut up?

I have no knowledge of this company or what it does or how it will affect other Apple products. So offering up my opinion is kind of pointless.

Ideally :D

Or, you know, read something relevant to properly keep up with the conversation. :)

So it is also pointless to ask for information? Is it also pointless for people to be polite if you accidentally do say something that shows your ignorance?

Asking for info is not the same as offering an uninformed opinion.

Apple buys an audio editing software company that specializes in portable devices...

Their software isn't for portable devices, it's for creating sample libraries for Kontakt and EXS24. These days I suspect it's mostly used for Kontakt format. It only supports GarageBand in that GB can load some Logic sample libraries.

I'm very nervous about this acquisition, obviously it's great to bring in more audio specific talent to Apple, but the possibility of Apple discontinuing this software is a very scary one. The apps like Keymap are some of the best available for this task and are used by many high end sample developers. If these apps go away, it's a major blow to the entire sampling industry. And since this app is used to create content that runs on third party software like Kontakt, as well as on PCs, it's not hard to imagine Apple shutting those apps down (or doing something stupid like limiting them to the EXS format, which is almost as bad as killing them).

Apple acquiring this tells me that the manager may possibly be integrated, thereby furthering the development of Logic Pro.

Improving sample management within Logic would be great, but not if it happens at the expense of these apps getting discontinued. I'm a logic user but frankly I use tons of Kontakt libraries and very little EXS - at this point I'm more worried than stoked.

Apple axed Sound Diver when they bought Emagic and I would be very sorry to see Redmatica disappear into the Apple void.

Exactly. And more recently dumped Waveburner. It's hard to imagine Apple continuing to sell apps that create content for Kontakt and PCs, but we'll see.

People on DAWs other than Logic aren't the only ones who should be worried - tons of Logic users use lots of Kontakt libraries so ending Keymap would be a major blow to those Logic users as well.

"Dear Redmatica Customer,
After eight wonderful years of developing creative sampling tools, I have
decided to close Redmatica to pursue other interests. Thank you for all your
patronage!

Andrea Gozzi, Founder"

My guess is Andrea decided to close down and negotiated to sell his Logic-related technology to Apple as long as he was moving on anyway, that way built-in EXS editing/management can benefit from a popular and well developed third-party product that was going away either way.

More unplanned opportunity than strategy for Apple?

Bottom line, Keymap looks like it was at the end of life either way, nothing to do with Apple in that respect.

Also received the same 'farewell' letter from Andrea today.

He's informing current users to download the latest updates by June 12th on Redmatica website.

Does not go on to provide any conditional clauses on what happens after June 12th but you can guess ;)

Supercharged universal sampler?

For sure, we are moving towards a completely revamped EXS24 and fresh from the gym. As a user of Keymap Pro, I can tell you that this software (largely unknown) is by far the most useful for creating and editing libraries for different sampler formats. The question remains whether Apple will support the numerous libraries from Native Instruments? By incorporating a "supercharged universal sampler" in Logic Pro, it could be a way of knocking on the door of Native-Instruments. That said, it is certain that many of us will miss Redmatica.

If there is still going to be"streamlined" CP then I guess Apple will be in charge of that now until it's assimilated into Logic Pro.

Waiting for Logic X. :)
