I've been a Logic and EXS user for a LONG time, and I've been tempted to buy Redmatica's products since I first heard about them. The main focus of their line has always been the EXS24's "missing features" (i.e. Logic's integrated software sampler), so I'm particularly stoked to think that I might now gain those features for free.

Really, I think this is most likely great news for Logic users.

Given the spiel on the Redmatica page, I have to suspect that the purchase is really about code / intellectual property, not talent. (Of course I'm not disputing that Andrea/Redmatica has lots of it, I just don't think anybody new is going to be appearing on Apple's payroll as a result of this)

Improving sample management within Logic would be great, but not if it happens at the expense of these apps getting discontinued. I'm a logic user but frankly I use tons of Kontakt libraries and very little EXS - at this point I'm more worried than stoked.

If Apple rolls the Redmatica stuff into Logic, you'll benefit from seamless EXS integration.

And more recently dumped Waveburner.

Um... is anybody still pressing CDs?

It's hard to imagine Apple continuing to sell apps that create content for Kontakt and PCs, but we'll see.

Let's be realistic. It won't happen.

tons of Logic users use lots of Kontakt libraries so ending Keymap would be a major blow to those Logic users as well.

If you already have Keymap it should work for the foreseeable future. I may be jumping the gun a bit, but I suspect you'd do well to start shifting your focus to EXS24, your other sampler.

That's probably of limited benefit to me. And it's definitely less useful than a tool that includes the ability to create cross platform content - I'm sure Apple sees it as a benefit as well as Logic users who only use EXS, but that's not many compared with those running Kontakt.

Um... is anybody still pressing CDs?

Just adding another example of software Apple dumped after buying a third party company. And yes, there are still plenty of people authoring CD's as part of how they make a living, just walk into a store that sells them or do a search on Amazon.

Let's be realistic. It won't happen.

Yeah, that's what I said. And that was posted before the announcement that Redmatica was shutting down, at least before there was some possibility the software could continue to exist.

Not particularly interested in moving from Kontakt, a cross platform sampler (and one that at this point is far beyond what EXS is capable of) to one that's Logic only. Even for things created for personal use, it doesn't make much sense to be stuck with a format that will be useless on other DAWs. And for developers creating commercial libraries it makes even less sense.

For a while it was fairly easy for devs to support EXS since they could use Keymap and export both EXS and Kontakt versions without much extra work. At least until Kontakt added lots of new features and EXS stagnated, then most developers dumped it. If Keymap reappears as a Logic only solution, developers aren't going to be able to use it as a tool (unless it has the ability to import Kontakt libraries, doubtful in the case of newer ones with complex scripting, but who knows). Really, if Keymap goes Logic/exs only, there probably will be even less development of EXS libraries.

We'll see what happens with EXS but I'm not optimistic even with Andrea working for Apple. All we know at this point is that the sampling world is losing some great software. Maybe we'll see something amazing in/with Logic, but it's also possible that Apple shuts down Redmatica and just has him work on Logic but without the addition of something like Keymap. I hope that's not the case, but we'll see.

Users seem excited about this, but now I've seen reactions from at least three of the major sample library developers and their reactions range from negative to tragic. This company made pretty much the only commercially available software designed for high end sample library creation (and cross platform, cross plugin at that), and the loss of it is a huge blow to the sampling industry.

While hopefully Logic will see some improvements from hiring Andrea, in the meantime it's just another case of Apple buying a company and shutting them down - and this time it's software that has no comparable alternative that users can switch to.

It's what apple does; strategic buying to have truly unique products. Next version of logic might sway people over if it has feature nobody else has. It's what Apple tries to do with all their products from phones and now to pro audio

Somebody obviously can't take a joke. You might need a cookie to keep your blood sugar up.

exactly... and what made you lose the ability to detect a joke? was it the "shut up" part?

funny stuff.

Well we have people telling each other to shut up all over the place and your post was framed as a personal attack. Usually jokes on that level are best done when there is some sort of personal relationship between the two people so they can understand there is a joke. So yeah, hope you gain the ability to tell better jokes in the future. *shrug*

I thought you we're joking in the first place. My bad. I mean really, "serious about being sarcastic or being sarcastic about being sarcastic?" That's pure comedy.

And now the redmatica apps have been pulled from the app store, yet another company Apple has bought only to kill off more good apps.

Perhaps this mean a logic x release with apps integrated?..

Makes no sense to buy company, release app then pull it
