i had about 50,000 songs in my Library so I had to cut out about 25,000 songs. I tediously went through Spotify and Rdio to add them to my collection. so the most common songs are on Rdio/Spotify while artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Beatles, who arent on those services, are covered through iTunes Match.

I'm a bit concerned about this. I've nearly 50,000 songs too, a lot of which won't be covered by iTunes Match. Will I not be able to use the service at all if I'm over the 25,000 song limit, or can I select what I want to be matched?

As someone who is always manually correcting the meta-information on the tracks as I'm importing them from CD's; I wonder how this will work (or not) once the matching services goes live?

This is my main worry about iTunes Match -- classical music tags on cddb are worse than worthless, and I've spent a long time getting them straight in my collection, especially so that I can use the Remote iPhone app and get actually useful information on the display. So I'm going to save a backup of all the classical stuff before I enable iTunes Match in case the results are disastrous.

Test-Run

It would be of great use to have a test-run functionality to see, how much of the music collection is actually covered. I don't want to pay for a service, that only recognizes 1% of my songs.

The function doesn't have to upload the songs, just scan the collection and list which songs are covered and and which aren't.

i still don't care for it. it should compliment the iphone's music library as a full list of all your music and the songs you are able to download to the phone that you might not have at the time as opposed to requiring you to download anything you want to listen to from the cloud. just a huge waste of time and bandwidth.

I signed up for iTunes Match about a month ago and through two beta iTunes have yet to have it actually work and match my tracks. It always gets stuck on Step 2 where it matches songs with the iTunes Store. Says it's processed ~8800 tracks, but sits at 0% complete with 0 remaining for days and days (till I manually stop it or quit iTunes.) Hopefully the non-beta will work bc it certainly hasn't for me. :(

This happened to me as well but it actually was doing its work. I believe its probably stalled on that step but checking/uploading songs that arent available on the iTunes store.

To test if it worked, try deleting one of your songs in your library and see if a little iCloud icon shows up on the right of the title. (if its grayed out, it still has to be uploaded)

it'll match whatever is in your library. iTunes purchases wont count towards the 25,000

But this is only after you sign up right?

Correct. Regardless your music will be in the "cloud". If your songs don't match, it will just take longer because they will need to be uploaded. With 19 million songs in iTunes, I feel like majority of them should be matched.

AC/DC?

Holy crap - I just saw this, checked my phone and sure enough, my iTunes in the cloud is again working along with iTunes Match (which I paid for through the developer account). I had it working on my iP4 and loved it. Got the iP4S and it completely went away. I thought I did something wrong on the update from one phone to the next, but clearly it was an Apple issue. I assume we'll see the official roll out very soon with updates to iTunes 10.5.1 (non-beta).

This is awesome!

I have the beta and it works pretty well. The only problem I see is that every time you add a song you need to scan the WHOLE library, which could take a long time. I hope this changes when it goes live to the public, where you can select which songs you want to match or upload to make the process a little easier.

Also, make sure your metadata matches that on iTunes to get a perfect match!

AC/DC?

If you mean the band then yes.

It's my opinion that iTunes has been collecting songs from developers in order to set a catalog of unmatched songs to increase the library size in the cloud.

Still buggy as hell for me as it won't work on my account.

Have iTunes 10.5.1 and signed up for the service. Had to do a warranty swap on my 4 and now it won't sync to my new phone. I can see my playlist in the phone but no music.

Tried doing a restore but still nada.

Edit:

Seems to be working again now - would be nice if they let us know it was going down for several days.....

You can "stream" music but its more like caching recent songs. It'll take time to load the "stream".

Thanks....so just to be clear...I dont need to have the music loaded on my device...I can access solely from the cloud...I understand it may be a slower process but the main selling point to me is to have access to my tunes without loading it onto my devices

So what if you have songs in your iTunes library that you downloaded from Amazon or some other place, will they work with iTunes Match?

Everyone who seems really excited for this, let me just say that after signing up during the developer beta, it ended up being more of a hassle than helping.

First of all, it only matched about 600 of my 2500 songs. Some of those matches we're to the wrong version of a song. I was excited for all my music to get upgraded to a higher quality, but it barely matched any tracks that I hadn't already bought on iTunes.

Secondly, songs that I bought on iTunes years and years ago and have since deleted we're all of a sudden back in my library, and there's no way to hide them.

Third, there's no more controlling what and what does not get synced to your iPhone. I have lots of music sitting on my computer that I don't want on my iPhone. With iTunes match you're forced to see every song on your phone.

Long story short after seeing what it was like I immediately turned it off. I prefer having control over my library, iTunes Match basically turns it all over to Apple.

i have alot of howard stern show mp3 rips from back in the day in my library

will itunes match upload these also?

Your playlist created in iTunes show up on any iTunes match device.

I just wish they did some sort of hybrid - would be nice to be able to sync some music (IE a playlist) and have the cloud there to download stuff if I'm in the mood to listen to it.

Yeah it had gone away for me too but it's back!

The only thing I find wrong with it is that it's only going to be as good as your Internet connection speed. So if you're driving then it's going to be rough... but it's one of those things in years to come that won't be an issue. If you're driving today, just make sure you preloaded the songs you want to listen to in advance.

correct, no songs need to be downloaded to your device.

I think you mean no songs need to be synced to the device via computer. The songs you want to listen to from iTunes Match do need to be downloaded. Every single one of them. So it's best to do in advance if you want a long playlist.
