So now it's confirmed. On reddit all I've seeing is that iCloud was "speculated" to have been the source.

It's confirmed because MR says apple is looking at the possibility?

Where's the bad news for Apple?

Even if true, will people stop using iCloud? No. Some might. Most won't.

Tons of coverage and high-profile endorsements. Yes please.

Celebs have $ and lawyers, apple $ goes down… stock market price goes down etc until the iPhone 6 is announced.

Apple may be a fault for the breach, but those celebs should have known better than to keep nude photos/videos of themselves on a cell phone. I hope the general public learns a lesson from this.

they were in the cloud...

Right. Of course they're going to look into it, their reputation is being questioned.

This just really doesn't sound like an "iCloud" thing to me.

At worst, Apple can show a quick response and claim victory over other fragmented systems.

It is win, win, win for Apple, whatever happens.

When are people going to learn. I have no doubt some photos came
from icloud. I also have no doubt some photos came from other sources. Nothing is safe no mater what the passwords or setup. If these hackers can shut down Sony's servers. If they can hack into the government websites and steal information then anything can be stolen.

Just because Apple or Google or anyone else has a two step verification or any ther systen in place all information is at risk. The sooner people realize this the better.

1. Don't send nudes, kids.
2. It's not apple's fault, so idk why some are blaming apple.
3. It serves the celebs right. One would think that people who have to stay hidden in public would be more secure with their photos... like not uploading them to an internet server... just smh.

i mean its pretty dang simple. Don't put anything on the internet (including password protected servers) that you wouldn't want the whole world to see.

I in no way searched reddit and 4chan for these photos and downloaded them.

:D lol im sure you aren't the only one. although if i was you i would delete them since they could be disputed as illegal.

Apple deserves the PR bitch slap they are getting on this. The hackers responsible for this crime hopefully have prison sentences in their future.

Crappy situation all around.

Anyone who downloads them, quite simply, should be ashamed of themselves. A massive invasion of privacy.

That's your third troll in this thread that I've seen. Are you astroturfing, or do you really waste this much time on a forum for products you don't use? Please tell me at least you're getting paid as the alternative is pretty pathetic.

I see that the truth sucks for you. Every article I've read so far has the finger pointing at Apple and iCloud. Theverge.com must be this one big troll party for you I guess.

And it appears to me that Apple is the only one investigating the situation.

How convenient to call someone a troll when the news says otherwise. Even this article says "Apple actively investigating Possible hacking of Celebrity iCould Accounts". I guess we are all trolls today.

No iCloud for me

I actively disable all iCloud on all our devices. I don't want my stuff on the iCloud, and I really don't understand why Apple tries to force it down our throats.

Maybe I am wrong, nut it wasn't a "big vulnerability" at all. Basically, it was just random guessing attempts, and many cloud services were the targets.

Many of those pics come from Android.

If you have "1234" as password, than its your problem, not Apple's, not Google's.

The thing is: Apple should warn the user when someone fails to guess the password. I agree with that.

Why is "icloud" taking the heat? Clicks. No one gives a **** about Google or Microsoft.

You had me until the end. Since it has been generally accepted these photos were accumulated over time and disseminated among a group of 4chan members before reaching the mainstream, I agree that it may be less of an Apple issue than initially reported.

Then you go all 'defend Apple' mode. Why, when a simple explanation is readily apparent for anyone to see. When multiple people are affected by a similar circumstance the first thing you do is look for commonality.

Maybe the victims all had photos taken with their...
Do I know this to be a fact? No I do not.

Honestly, which is more likely? Someone is out to defame Apple or these ladies carried iPhones?

Agreed, feeling ridiculously sorry for all the celebrities who have been violated because of these leaks, just a prime example of the negatives of fame.

I'm starting to have my doubts about this being an iCloud exploit at all.
1. Some of the celebs have said they don't even use an iPhone
2. Doubtful celebs used one of the 500 passwords in the brute force script
3. Quite a few of the photos have proven to be from Android devices.

Quite a few sites exist with photos of celebs with no clothes - at least, their heads are on a body. The celebs may not have posed for a nude camera / cell phone shot; it's just some persons manipulating images to draw more people to a website where malware then will appear on the viewers' computers.

i'm actually on the hackers side to be honest. I mean people shouldn't upload things like this to iCloud. it's like the 3rd time i've said this but its true. It's actually kind of funny to me because it shows just how dumb people are in today's world. And about being ashamed to download these images... what about the massive population that downloads nfsw images and videos on a regular basis. people need to know about this stuff or this will keep happening... people are gonna get their hands on anything and everything on the internet. Kinda like how i ended up getting ahold of some apple internal tools a while back that apparently were "impossible to install"...

At this point it is absolutely obvious that it's Apple's fault.

It's not even obvious that iCloud is the source of the images, so it can hardly be obvious whose fault it is.

Security researchers have postulated that weak passwords and a lack of two-factor authentication may have led to the breach if iCloud is the source of the leaked images

Are your reading skills so horrible that you can't see what the source is even in the articles you are posting? Nobody has confirmed this is Apple's doing, not even The Verge. And yes, they love all of the traffic this causes for them. And yes, they love the fact that people like you can't understand what they're really saying.

Apple INVESTIGATING and POSSIBLE are the words you need to look out for. Grab a dictionary.
