As long as the product is good.

As long as Apple could produce the huge amounts product while maintaining the high quality we know and love from Apple... I'm Happy. :D

Don't get me wrong... I'd love a retina display too. In fact, my daughter may get my iPad 2 so I can get a new HD version. :D I just don't think the current screen is bad or "lagging". It's in line with 90%+ of screens out there.

It's all subjective. But I came *this* close to getting a Galaxy 10.1 because the screen was quite a bit more pleasing to me than the iPad 2. The reason I backed out is because of typing-lag and garbage apps.

Again, it doesn't really matter to me because I won't get a half-breed iPad anyway. But there are better screens out there and that has to gnaw at Jobs a little.

Maybe they’ll just add a 128GB model, which I’d have loved to get! I collect games and video beyond all reason :)

I love how just because the iPad is not a retina screen "it's lagging". For goodness sake, it's as good as or better 90% of the laptops on the market. It's not lagging that much unless you compare to the iPhone 4.

Don't get me wrong... I'd love a HD screen for the iPad, but I don't see what's so horrible about the current screen.

If Apple doesn't update the iPad now, with a slew of Android tablets coming, how will Apple ensure that the iPad remains ahead of the pack in terms of capabilities? You see, the iPhone had a long lead because nobody at the time was doing what Apple was doing. But now with the advanced state of Android, Apple has no choice but to diversify the product line in order to remain ahead of the pack. Once Apple is perceived as being "behind", we have another Macintosh on our hands and developers jumping ship to Android in droves. Not good for Apple.

Do you think there would be a premium price for an HD version? (+ $100?)

No, the HD version will take the place of current iPad 2 price points and the current iPad 2 will drop by $100. This is a great strategy for Apple, as it will get a ton more iPads into the hands of consumers.

Yep. Things update all the time, and it doesn't have to be Apple. Heck, when you buy a laptop from just about anybody, you can expect another and better model to always be right around the corner. So never you mind about having the best now, just upgrade when you see that you have a real use to do such a thing.

Heck, I bought that Gateway 6831FX laptop, which was one of the most affordable gaming laptops of its kind, and it was sold at an amazing price for a good dedicated video card. And it was new. Hot off the press.

You know they actually had improved models and successors to the thing within a scant month or two after release? And that's just a simple and very very common example.

People who say it's not gonna happen are like those who said Macs on Intel are not gonna happen.
Apple is unpredictable, get it? They can do whatever they want and they don't care for your opinion.

"iPad HD". That is so bizarre. If this is true it's because the only thing iPad is lagging behind in is the screen res. I have an iPad 2, but I will treat this as a, "3GS" and wait for a fully realized iPad 3 or 4. My iPad just sits on my coffee table for guests to doodle around on. I would imagine most of us have a Macbook Pro as well to fill that, "Prosumer" void.

It may not make such a dramatic difference around the house. But a portable high resolution screen like this will be fantastic for the arts and sciences and engineering.

Switching to Intel was good for business. Releasing another version of the iPad this year is not.

Two manufacturers?

I wonder if this will lead to manufacturer tracking, checking if one of them produces the better iPads... At least I could imagine such threads popping up.

• The amount of information you can comfortably fit in 9.7" will stay the same, it would just be sharper.

• People in the arts and sciences and engineering are already buying the iPad. If they are not, it's because it doesn't run the kind of software their laptop does, and not because of the PPI of the display.

• The iPad's pixels per inch is 132, greater than a 15" MacBook Pro. How on earth are these professionals getting any work done currently on these "inferior" displays? :)

I'm not sure where the idea that artists and filmmakers are the prime justification for a much more expensive "iPad Pro," but it's really a stretch. Which manufacturer or operating system is currently catering to this tiny market, allegedly hungry for ridiculously sharp displays? That's right, it's Apple and only Apple, so why jump the gun on a "retina" iPad so soon, exactly?

I'm totally guessing but I would expect an iPad2 "Pro" if we want to call it that right now, will have a more than $100 extra cost put onto it.

I can't imagine them releasing a device that is exactly the same as the current iPad2 apart from the screen. There might be some CPU/GPU bump, or a Memory bump, or something else as well to make it into this supposed "Pro" model.

I could see, $200 or more on top of current pricing.

I don't think Apple will add only a high-res screen because a high-res screen will need more powerful cpu, gpu, more ram.
So in that case they can just call it iPad 3, no reason for call it iPad HD or iPad Pro.

In case they just add a high-res screen then it will cause more fragmentation. Like game will need a version for iPad 1, a version for iPad 2 with same res, more powerful graphic, a version for iPad HD with high res but less power graphic, limit ram.

Sorry for my english, its not my native language :D

I would definitely benefit from a HD display, and consider buying one as soon as released. I mostly use the iPad to read PDF's from journal articles and at the current resolution the text/graphics blurr when I "pinch" them larger.

The iPad is always with me at home for web, music, video and reading. An HD display would be a welcome upgrade.

If your PDFs are blurry (pixelated) when you pinch-to-zoom, then that means the source is from a jpg or other bitmapped graphics, so you would definitely not benefit from an HD display in the scenario stated.

Good news that they are adding more manufacturing. A side benefit of that will go to Macrumors, as the sources of product leaks have all pretty much been plugged at Foxconn but these new companies are bound to be more porous and will supply us with the rumors we crave.

The iPad 2 display is awesome in terms of viewing angles, brightness, etc. But it's not very sharp. Both my MBP (hi-res) and iPhone 4 are much sharper. Considering that the thing is intended for book reading, web browsing, photo viewing, etc., increased screen sharpness would be a huge thing for it.

I mean, the thing is basically a big display. :D

sometimes i wish i never found macrumors, then i wouldnt be second guessing myself about buying an ipad 2 every 5 hrs...
