Are people stupid? What Apple is saying is that ON AVERAGE, the ipad is actually flatter than previous generations. That doesn't mean that some iPad Pros can't be bend extremely. This is OUT OF TOLERANCE and you are eligible for a replacement.

This literally happens with every product that gets sold in large numbers. Heck, I bet every now and then someone opens a completely new iPhone box and it doesn't even turn on.

My father once bought a Mercedes, picked it up at the cardealer and couldn't even make it home before the engine failed.

did Mercedes try and defend themselves stating that is was normal and part of a new manufacturing process?

That’s not what was said, but you seem to accept someone saying that they heard someone say their’s bent under normal conditions so there is a serious flaw in all and apple should do a recall. Right.

No.

I accept peoples accounts until I know for sure that they are inaccurate. If somebody posts a picture of a bent iPad and says it came out of the box bent or bent under normal use I don't accuse them of being a liar or a hater because that's not normal behaviour.

People are still entitled to an opinion without owning the device, you even seem to think that your opinion is more valid that other people who do/have owned the device.

People are also perfectly entitled to form an opinion based on a YouTube video from someone who does own the device this is just as valid as your experience with the iPad. If the videos don't fit the narrative you would like that's just unfortunate.

This is the internet, this is an Internet forum. People don't need to have bought the device or have Apples returns numbers or any thing else to have an opinion. If people didn't have opinions internet forums would be a bit pointless really.

I find bent iPads quite disgusting. Apple needs to do a replacement program and figure out the problems.

Nope sorry.

I didnt state an opinion. I stated a fact. It may not be what you want to hear. But the fact is I do own one and it’s flat. Opinions are better when informed. Uninformed opinions are what are worthless. If actual owners were encouraged to speak up rather than consistently put down like you do then we might get more facts to have an informed opinion.

But here’s an opinion for you. Some people like to cry the sky is falling down and will defend their self entitled right to do so.

Great, some people own them and they aren't. They have posted their experiences, theirs are just as valid as yours.

You seem to be trying to shut the debate down, I certainly am not.

Nailed it . Kinda gave it away with that it’s all conjuncture , and mine is fine post . The irony he missed people with issues are being shut down also, does not suit the narrative .

Debate is good - these is no right or wrong answer to this issue or non issue .

Mostly with cellular. I've yet to see a cellular model that does not have a slight bend at the top antenna band.

Mine (12.9-inch Cellular) is fine out of the box. It’s fine after use by myself and handling by strangers daily. It’s fine after traveling in a 10-year-old bag with 1-litre water bottle and various other objects that so many think would make the iPad fold like a noodle. I throw the bag into the passenger seat of my car when I get in.

You also can't assume that they're telling the truth either. At best you can say "they've posted a picture of a bent iPad". Anything beyond that is conjecture.

So is people saying thier iPads are fine in that case .

So in the end we are back to opinions

A few on here said mine was bent but after measuring it properly it seems fine so sometimes different eyes see different things.

Mine just stays in the keyboard case and seems fine when carrying in my work bag.

I think the new iPad looks amazing and has some really great new features. I have one budgeted for July or August of this year. With that open-minded and positive intent statement on record let me just say this:

When I buy mine in my local Apple Store I’m going to ask the Apple Specialist to stand by as I carefully open the box, remove the iPad exerting zero stress on the housing, gingerly slip off the protective plastic sleeve because it might be going back on the device in a few moments, lay the iPad down on the (extremely high end perfectly flat white oak Apple Store table [which likely cost several times that of a new iPad]), and if I can perceive ANY space between the iPad and the surface of the table kneeling down looking edgewise then I’m going to ask the specialist to go fetch me another and to expect me to continue the process unitil I get one that is not bowed.

Quite simply if the Specialist balks or gives me that’s normal refusing to get me replacements unitil I get one as flat as the old models than I won’t be buying a new iPad.

It’s just that simple.

I really can’t believe the amount of people defending Apple here. How come there haven’t been complaints of iPads bending with previous generations? If there have, it’s never gotten to the point of Apple disclosing their “400 microns” quality bs. Hopefully they’re at work on an iPad with 7000 series aluminum.

You keep putting words in my mouth. I’m not trying to shut down anything. I encourage those with actual experience to post. I have seen one here in this thread that said he was not satisfied and returned it with no problem. I have seen a couple of others say, like mine, no problem. I don’t see a recall crisis in that. Yet any time anyone says something positive, or asks for real data, they are shot down as apple defenders. That’s not debate. That’s people with an agenda to put down for whatever reason Apple.

I’m just speaking up that I own one and have no problem. No clue why that threatens anyone such that they feel the need to mock me and make claims about me that are not true.

You argued your opinion is as valid as mine, hence the converse is true. And in my opinion apples return policy works fine, their tolerance level is fine, actual returns are low, and under reasonable care they are fine. If anyone disagrees they can vote with their wallet and get a Samsung. Or voice their opinion again. I voted with my wallet and despite the opinion only naysayers bought the iPad 11.

But here’s another fact for you, my 6plus has survived fine as well under reasonable care for 4 years.

What words are you going to put in my mouth now?

well... you can not become thinner and lighter into infinity. There will be a limit.

By the way, I love how 400 microns is their benchmark for bendiness, but they felt the need to make the iPad .2mm thinner. That’s only 200 microns, lol

The image currently used in the article is of an iPad that was also replaced by Apple. “Apple replaces iPad Pro that was out of order upon arrival, explains in detail what would constitute out of order”

Do people actually think it's possible to manufacture a product without microscopic bends?

Every product is designed with a tolerance metric. There is no such thing as a product designed with zero tolerance. This includes ultra fancy luxury products (smaller tolerances) to crappy products (large tolerance levels).

You do know that your Macbook Pro, Macs, iPhones, etc.. all have these same tolerance levels, right?

Your BMW's and Teslas also have bends in them.

The bends shown by user photos all over the forums are not within these tolerance limits.
The manufacturing tolerances are not the issue here.

This just keeps getting dumber and dumber...

...and the argument keeps getting more distracted which is probably Apple’s thought process.

As an avid user of the iPad Pro for work and travel, I don’t give three craps about the unit coming out of the box bent. If I see it, I can just take it back. Apple seems entirely focused on this singular issue.

What I am WAY more concerned about — and what them coming out of the box bent really portends — is that later, after my ability to return the device has passed, I will pull my device out of my bag and it will be bent because it’s so inherently fragile in the first place.

This is what Apple really doesn’t want to address, so they focus only on the out-of-box concerns.

If I got an ipad bent as the one in the picture I would not accept "apples excuse" I would return it instantly. No over eagerly fanboy can convince me of anything else.
That’s the core of the issue right there. Apologists keep insisting that nothing is perfectly flat and that microscopic bends are unavoidable, and they have a point - but what the hell does that have to do with these iPad specimen in the pictures posted by the affected owners? Those iPads are so bent you can see it from space. They look like Hurley in Lost sat on them. Hardly ”microscopic”.

You also can't assume that they're telling the truth either. At best you can say "they've posted a picture of a bent iPad". Anything beyond that is conjecture.

Sure I can, I will give them the benefit of the doubt because I'm only using it to form an opinion. I've not drawn any hard conclusions from it. It isn't as if I'm demanding that they recall the product.

As with all of these things its never going to effect 100% of the device owners none of the previous issues iPhone Bendgate, Macbook Keyboards etc did either. I should point out that when somebody has posted about their iPad Pro being fine I haven't accused them of lying either.

Nobody should be accused of making things up in my view nor should people be allowed to shut down the debate if it doesn't suit them.

When somebody posts up an experience that paints Apple in less than glowing terms they get swarmed all over by some of these people telling them its their fault, they aren't allowed an opinion, that they are lying, they are a hater etc.

Im open minded to the possibility that Apple has put something out that is overly flimsy. It wouldn't be the first time

What words are you going to put in my mouth now?

You aren't really making much sense here.

Firstly you say I am putting words in your mouth yet you're taking about a "Recall crisis", I haven't referred to it as a crisis or said that Apple should recall the product at any point. It seems to be a case of you putting words in my mouth rather than the other way around.

Nobody has suggested that your opinion isn't valid, however in post #657 in this thread you have implied that some members posts are "uninformed" and "worthless".

Again nobody is going to be privy to the data other than Apple, you know this, I know this, this doesn't preclude people from having an opinion. To say otherwise is purely a means of trying to shut down the debate.
