If there is nothing wrong with you laptop Apple will do nothing. Just in case a fault does develope with your MacBook I recommend you keep back ups.

try multitasking. I find it surprising that people test the performance of multicore/SMP-systems by running single application. Sure, if those apps are multithreaded, there is a clear benefit. But multicore/SMP can help outside multithreaded apps as well. If you run several tasks at once (single-threaded or not), you will see a benefit.
 
yeah, i love how everytime i tell people NEVER to buy the first version of any apple product, everyone jumps on my back for being anti-apple or some ****. this just proves my point.
 
W8608 here. I have the buzzing and in the last day or two it has started to drive absolutely crazy. Also the mouse scraped against somethigng when I clicked the button a few days ago and the metal bit on the front popped out so it is slightly bent, and the touchpad sticks out of the top of the casing in one corner... I guess I'll be calling Apple Store in Manchester tonight to see if I can get a replacement (if not to fix the buzzing, then to fix the mouse). I'm off to Costa Rica on Thursday so i can leave it with my dad and he can take it in while I'm away next time he visits a customer in Manchester. That way I don't have any time without my MacBook Pro. Perfect timing.

Doesn't prove anything. If Apple refuses to give me a replacement I'll give you this MBP. Theya re very good at replacing faulty products when they are new, so don't give me **** about 'never buy the first one' I'd rather be current, since it won't really affect me much at all to take it in for a replacement, than be running slow old machines that won't get my work done as quick as current ones, thank you very much.
 
Got my MBP back from apple, they replaced the 'Top Case' and the Speakers. This was to fix the lcd inverter buzz, havent had chance to fire it up.

Any mac techs out there know which bit the Top Case is? and if it contains the inverter? Im guessing its the top part surrounding the keyboard.. Still same mainboard tho, W8608...

anyone else had an inverter fixed, did they do the same changes?
 
I called Apple yesterday. I was thinking that 10.4.6 might fix some of the sound issues- it did not. When I called, I was told that these were known issues, but they were not fixing them at this time. It was only when I asked him to recheck this, that he offered to repair it. His exact words were "I just checked 2 days ago, I doubt anything has changed..." I was expecting more from their support line.

So, they are sending a box to return it (1-2 days) and I was told that I would get it back in 7-10. I was on the fence as to whether I should go through the hassle of a return- but the more I thought about it....there seems to be a harware problem...and it seems like it can be fixed (rev D). For $2,000 we should all do the same.
 
Can anyone who has sent for a fix confirm:
Do they fix all of the problems(lcd buzz, 2nd core whine, drop of wifi)?
Do they send a new machine, or just but it a new board?

My biggest fear is that I will get a machine back with other problems- esp. the lcd white stripe at the bottom...

It's impossible to release a product that is perfect unless it takes years and years and years. Props to Apple for taking care of it all.

Fair enough, but some people can't afford to send their computers in for a few weeks of repairs (in the hopes of being sent a new machine) just to have a machine that's x% faster than a more reliable computer. Your situation probably isn't typical...
 
Yeah I hear whining, too!

I just got a MBP and I hear whining, too! It sounds like... "oh, you guys, my laptop is so hot! I can't handle it, omg, I should return it!"

Logic is MUCH faster, for some things it's more than 4x faster. Just depends on the app you're running. People are also saying Final Cut screams on the intel boxes.

Problem is, if Apple says the issue isn't really a problem and refuses to fix it.

Man, all you "I don't buy Rev A" cats are missing out. I've owned every Powerbook with maxxed out options since Titanium 667 VGA and this puppy blows the latest Powerbook out of the water without breaking a sweat. Runs Doom 3 beautifully at max settings, UT2k4 smooth a butter (or is that a hot knife through butter 😎 ), runs photoshop about as fast as my 1.67 Rev E PB, and based on what I've heard from buddies at Ars who are benchmarking FCP on these, things, the MBP is going to scream like never before. No problems here on my 2.16 MBP with all the fixins. Never had a problem with a Rev A I couldn't get fixed in a timely manner (Rev A Aluminum 15" white spots got sent out and returned in 48 hours and was perfect when I sold it a few months later). Sure, there's a perception of risk associated with Rev A products, but I'd rather be editing my video on the cutting edge than on four year old (read G4) hardware. And yes, I do make a living off my portables.
 
I have a W8610 (Rev C) and have had zero issues with my Macbook Pro other then the heat... which isn't a problem, its normal. No whining, no nothing.
 
Stop the complaining!!!

Mine is a W8612 and I got it direct from China last wends because of a hard-drive upgrade. Being someone who actually uses their system instead of just buying them to surf the net and look (& sound) pretty I have been INCREDIBLY impress by the improvements of the MBP over the PowerBook. Suck it up and stop the madness!!!
 
To all those complaining about our whining- if Apple can fix it, why wouldn't you? If it is fixable, then it must be a real Hardware problem. I don't understand the logic of, just suck it up. If you pay $2,000+ for a computer that has a fixable problem, why attack people looking for a fix?
