Apple Addresses MacBook Pro Issues

My only issue?

I have a W8609. What rev is this? B or C? assistance please. Also, you guys are scaring me. This is my first Mac after a long time. I do not hear any whining from the CPU or the screen. I did not even know a screen could whine. If I hold this up to my ear, I can hear the hard drive and what sounds like a CPU fan. The only "issue" I think I have is that this thing gets hot as H..l! Especially above the function keys. I do know that when I am ripping CD's using iTunes, or importing video, it is at it's hottest.

Other than that, I really like this machine.

I brought my MBP to the genius bar and I couldn't get it hot enough for them to give me a newer revision 😡 . Guess I'll just have to wait it out and see if apple really considers it an issue, and issues a recall.

I have a 8610 and on top of the function keys can get really really hot, like burning hot, but I could not reproduce it at the genius bar.

Can I say I'm just SO GLAD I didn't wait it out, and instead gave in an bought a Powerbook G4 12" 1.5Ghz model in December instead of waiting for Macworld? It's exactly the computer I wanted. It's super-portable, metal, durable, and runs Photoshop nearly 3 times as fast as my friend's fully decked out Macbook Pro (although he only has 1GB vs. my maxed-out 1.25GB). I do all my intensive work on my G5 anyway, but have been impressed with the fact that I've been able to output pure HD resolution (via mini-DVI to HDMI cable) to my new Sony HD TV and demo those new Quicktime HD trailers in full 720P resolution glory WITHOUT dropping frames, despite Apple's claim that you'd need at least a G5. Yes, my REV D (or did it end at a C?) Powerbook G4 12" 1.5 is quite a powerful little sucker.

Will I replace it in a year once Apple gets past the native software issues and the early adoper bug phase? Sure..... but I'm just so glad I didn't wait only to be left with a heavier (and much buggier) laptop. This little guy is by far the finest, most glitch-free laptop I have ever owned. I bow to the REV Ds.
 
I wonder if I should demand a new MBP. I have to send mine in anyway to get the keyboard replaced... I might as well get a whole brand new one that doesn't burn me on contact.

Great portable

I've had my W8613 and I don't (yet) have any of the issues mentioned. I've had it on basically from the moment it arrived on Wednesday and transferred over 50GB to it since opening it. I hope I don't encounter any of the problems reported! Yikes.

I hope these problems won't last. I guess Apple had to reduce the quality a bit to keep the price at that level since the Core Duo is way more expensive than the G4. If I had recieved a uncomfortably hot, whining or flickering, I would return it for another one. These issues would be acceptable for a cheapo 500$ computer, but we're talking about macs here!

I know price is an issue to many people. But I think that people who buy Mac Book "PRO"s arnt really that price sensitive. I rather pay MORE $s for a machine which is near perfect (i know nothing is ever perfect) and doesnt have issues which would annoy people.

I dont care if the laptop is 100-400$ more if it wasnt flickering, making wierd noises and hot as hell. Come on, this is a PRO Machine, they should quality control it with that in mind!!
 
i have the new macbook pro serial num:W8612
it has been overheating big time and battery last 1:30 but other than that it has been great.
i know people say its a notebook but paying £1500 for it you dont want it on your lap burning you.
well i rang apple and they are happy to send a new one within 24 hours.
people ring apple and damand a new one its the law if it faulty you can clame a new one.
good luck every1🙂

There is no law that says they have to give you a new one. Per the warranty (which is something they agreed to, also not something required by law) Apple will repair or replace the product at their discretion.
