So I am trying to take my post/thread here and put it to Apple Forums, I get "
You are not allowed to create or update this content"? Anyone aware of restrictions apple has on just even posting to their forums?

Is there a general problem with installing this update? The comments here don't sound good...

I have four machines on El Cap (2008 MBPro, 2011 MBPro, 2x 2011 Mac mini i7quad),
and four on Sierra (2016 Macbook, 2016 iMac, 2017 13"MBPro, 2017 15"MBPro)
...I don't want any of them bricked...

My issues were because of my Anti Virus software, if you have one you may want to have a read of your vendors forums first to see if they have any reports of problems. I was using ESET Cyber Security Pro, once removed my reboot issues were gone and everything is fine. ESET are working on a update to get it working again.
[doublepost=1516884771][/doublepost]Looks like ESET fixed it already, they released an update 14 hours ago and I've just now installed it and all seems well so far. I'll be back for sure if things change.

In my case, I installed the updates on a 2008 MacBook Pro, and it's running fine.

I put it on two Sierra machines (MBP 9,2 and MBA 5,2) and on one El Cap machine (iMac 12,2) yesterday with no problems so far. All were fully updated, and I rebooted all prior to installation (and made bootable backups, just in case).

I've upgraded about 80 Macs with the Sierra security update and no problems have been reported on any of them.

So I posted my question to Apple around Security vulnerabilities. Apparently either they aren’t interested or they are super-picky on where I posted it. In any case, they reported that they removed the post. Any suggestions on where the heck I post to Apple to get them to answer questions about their End-of-life policy?

Just updated to most recent release.

I did a fresh install of macOS Sierra about 3 weeks ago.
But just to give feedback.

macOS Sierra 10.12.6
Using a cMBP 13" 2.5 GHz core i5

I will keep you guys up to date if anything has changed, or if I have any issues with it.

So far, all has been ok. The applications that I mainly use are Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. I would open Pixelmator and try to throw 15 layers of pics with a res of 4000 by 3000, cut, paint, repair and warp, it still moves along.

Other small apps are iTunes, safari, and messages have been working without a hitch.

I think this update has been pretty smooth so far.

Apple has never posted a support timeline for any operating system so don't expect to get an answer on this. The best that you can hope for at this point is that Apple, to some degree, supports the current and previous two major versions. Note that Apple often does not include all security patches in the earlier OSes. For example, the "Broadpwn" vulnerability was patched in 10.12.6 but neither 10.11.6 or 10.10.5 got those fixes in the corresponding security updates. (High Sierra had not been released at that time so 10.10.5 was still getting security updates.)

This thread (together with Linux threads discussing the performance impact of the suggested Intel patches for Linux) confirms my initial reaction in the first Spectre/Meltdown thread: No way I'll update any of my machines, as I really need maximum performance. However, before buying any new hardware, I'll wait for new CPUs that come with hardware fixes and whose benchmarks are good.

Finally decided to update my two macs.
2012 mini update completed in a few minutes.
2015 rMBP stuck on black screen with spinning gear for longer than 20 minutes.
What now?

EDIT:
I switched the MBP off with the keyboard button and rebooted manually.
All seems fine and it says that the update is now installed.
Not a pretty experience though.

Which updates should I avoid to keep the Meltdown and Spectre patches from being installed on my Mac Pro 2010? I'd rather not take the performance hit just to protect against something that has a vanishing small chance of ever reaching my Mac.

I think that you fall under the law of Murpy’s Inverse Probabilities. If you don’t update then your chances of being hit approach 100%. If you DO update then you will never need the updates even if you share your passwords or otherwise supposedly increase your risk factor.

With a little more effort, such has major broadcast of the passwords, your iPhone will power itself with the new "Improbability Drive"
