Being a new app developer, the new search algorithms from chomp are making it very difficult to get noticed on the app store, as the search results are geared more towards showing the most popular apps rather than the most relevant ones. Apple makes more money this way, it makes popular apps even more popular, which leads to more sales for high-profile developers and apple.

For instance,
my app's name is classroom, but if you search for 'classroom' on the app store, it's nearly number 200 on the list of results.

And this new single-app layout is going to make it even harder for people to find an app that's already low on the list of results.

This seems terrible. I'm really not liking some things happenin' @ Apple lately.

This only comes up if let's say you type "apple" and click the "search for: apple" pop up (or the other suggestions, but not if you type apple then hit search on the keyboard not a big deal everyone.

So much wasted space and the space used communicates very little. They just scaled down the Chomp result inside a box. This and the Apple TV UI are two of the worst UI's Apple has ever done.

This makes me miss Steve Jobs. I dont think he would have let this turkey out like this.

I was under the impression, through previous rumors, that Jobs spent most of his last days working on the 6th gen iPhone. Would he not then also be involved with software as well? Then again, who am I to say what he probably would or would not do.
He also was around when the apple tv was released, with the same if not worse UI?

No problem. Just tell people to search "classroom" and swipe 200 times! Easy as pie! :p (but I guess part of that is choosing a common word for your app name)

Yeah, something definitely needs to be fixed though.

Strange... I am not seeing the single-pane app store search results, but I am seeing a tab at the top that lets you choose between "iPad Apps" and "iPhone Apps" (even though I am on an iPhone). Even stranger: it is defaulting to "iPad Apps"!

This is what I have on the iPhone now n the chomp style on the iPad. Maybe some users getting different results. Also topic should change for either iPad chomp style with iPhone new layout I think.

This is exactly what I'm seeing. Strange.

The new Apple TV UI isn't perfect, but it makes far more sense for what that box is today and what it's likely to be tomorrow than the previous interface. There's room for improvement to be certain, but I wouldn't want to go back to the previous version at this point when it comes to usability.

Oh yeah, I got a call from my dad awhile back informing me that my mom finally figured out how to use the Apple TV she got for Christmas a bit ago once they updated the UI. That says something.

Don't underestimate the value of obviousness.

Here is Apple's new slogan for iOS 6.

iOS 6. Spending more of your limited time looking through the same list of god damn apps.

With iOS 6, we've modified the layout of the App Store. Now when you search for an app, you waste even more time looking at the same search results page, with the same god damn list of apps. But, it's going to be a revolutionary game changer, because we have a new interface.

- Jony Ive

Don't like it a bit.

Takes a lot of time to swipe/scroll to next app , list was far better.

Like i search twitter , it shows 5000+ results .

Apple what are you doing?

I'd like to be able to filter out the paid apps in my searches. I rarely buy any apps. Honestly, the App Store search is very old-fashioned and clunky. I expected better from Apple. What if you could test drive the app in the App Store itself without actually putting it on your Springboard pages? But before they go for gee-whiz features, they have to worry about the interface itself being just fundamentally stupid.

Oooh . Let's hope there's a "list style" option there!

Why buy the company when you can just steal the idea? Oh wait! That's Samsung!

Every time I see "acquire", thanks to some notable Troll Science comics, I think "steal" at first.

They better get a pretty ****** good search algorithm if they're actually moving ahead with this UI. I've never understood what made Chomp acquisition-worthy, because this certainly isn't improving user experience.

14 updates available? I smell a pirate.

I've got about the same. Some apps can't get updated since they require a higher iOS version, others I don't see the use of updating. I always check what has changed, and if it is 'minor bugfixes', I usually pass it since mostly it's to add more ads and the games get slow on my 2nd gen iPod Touch as it is.

Something that would be very helpful in the app store would be to display whether your device can install/update an app or not. This is probably not that necessary for everybody with a iPhone 4(S), but later on when games can't run on your device anymore, it's quite annoying to see all the apps in the search results, even those that don't run on your device, and only getting an error after tapping the install button twice.

What the f...

If that's what I think it looks like, it would be a nasty change, giving you no overview at all. As bad as coverflow in iTunes.

Edit: Well, except for iPad, as shown above. But iPhone needs a list view to at all view more than one app at a time, which is nearly always of interest when you're looking for something.

Imagine if Google worked like this on a desktop Mac - instead of a list of results it gave you full-screen previews of each website you had to scroll through one-by-one

It's also a pain that to read more info, only the app name is tapable. Logic dictates that you should also be able to tap on the much bigger app picture on the results 'tile'. I also wish the search results showed the developer, it helps easily sort 'official' apps from the various clones. The developer never showed on iOS6 even with the 'old style' search results, but I think it did in previous iOSs?

You still only seem to be able to read 5 reviews for each app, although at least they appear to be the latest ones - up till yesterday it would serve me up 5 reviews that were at least a year old.
