(For me at least) The new format only appears when typing in a search term in the box and selecting one of the suggestions that appear. If I simply click the search button in the keyboard instead of one of the results, it looks exactly how it used to.

It appears the way you describe on the iPhone, but hitting either the search button or selecting one of the suggestions on the iPad shows the new ugly format

On an unrelated note, the sky is falling and the dead walk the earth....

Guys, it hasn't even been released yet. Can we save the doom and gloom for when the device is actually released with this nonsense? (if it even looks the same by then).

How many times has Apple given us 1 choice in UI and had that choice suck balls (I happen to like the ATV layout). Trust them, they didn't get to be the world's most valuable company with the most loyal fans for nothing.

Apparently Apple doesnt have the most loyal fans.... Steve Jobs does... Looks like most people stick around here now a days to rant about what Steve wouldn't have allowed

If you get too many results back, it's uses the list format. Search for "world ends" and you get the list format. Search for "world ends with you" and you get the new pane format. It's not as bad as you think.
Not for me. It did at first, but not any more. I think that was just temporary whilst the changes rolled out completely.
Now, I get the new format whichever way I search.
I also had that iphone + ipad selector at first, but not now.

On the subject of re-downloading apps, there really needs to be a comprehensive mechanism for saving app data to iCloud,

so that you can
-choose to save an app's data in the cloud when you delete an app
-you can download an app you haven't used in a while or to a new phone and still have your old app data

Does this exist, does anybody know if it's coming or any other thoughts?

Anybody have a suggestion for this: I'd like to keep all of my app data, but when the new iPhone comes, I want to use the fresh installation. I don't want to carry over from a backup of my current phone. I've had weird bugs in the past that were a result of carrying a backup onto the new phone (eg there was a proximity sensor issue when you restored from backup going from 3GS to 4). But if I start fresh I lose my app data.. With iCloud Backup, I've stopped syncing my apps to iTunes.. Would the best bet be to sync the apps back to iTunes and then sync them onto the new phone? Would all the data be transferred over. I feel like this area is the last hurdle that apple needs to simplify with iCloud to make everything feel solid and secure, sans computer. App data can be really important. If apple started to frame app data in a very clear and simple way, i think a lot of headaches would be avoided. Id appreciate any input... This has bugged me for a while and I'm not sure exactly why

This kinda exists, but not like you want.
I saw a post recently about people using a few different tools to extract app data from one backup, and insert it into another.
Also, a developer can choose to save their data into iCloud, including progress etc...
If I go to Settings - iCloud - Storeage & Backup - Manage Storage
The documents & data lists apps that store data in iCloud. I only have a few, but don't use the apps really, so can't say if it works well or not..

I currently have 9 for my phone that's been there a week. Does that make me a piriate.??

Please get off your high horse and until you have proof you might want to refrain from calling people thief's.

Yep that's the craziest thing I've heard all week. I've been above 20 updates in my iTunes for a few months. Most are games I stopped playing and utilities I seldom use.

If the App store had differential patching I'd be more inclined to keep everything current, but I don't seriously need to redownload 338 megs of Ghost Trick v1.00.01 just because they fixed a volume bug that I reported. ;)
