Just a day after adding TED, Tastemade, and Young Hollywood channels to the Apple TV, Apple has added yet another new channel to its set-top box -- CNNGo.

CNNGo is CNN's service that lets users watch live news coverage and see segments from the past 24 hours. It also includes recent CNN coverage and films on demand. The service has previously been available on CNN.com and via the CNN iPad app.

Much of the content within CNNGo requires authentication through a cable provider. Live television and full shows require authentication, but clips can be watched without a cable subscription.

Today's new CNNGo channel comes as Apple is preparing to reveal both a new set-top box and a new television service at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The rumored streaming television service will consist of approximately 25 channels for $30 to $40 per month, with Apple partnering with networks like ABC, CBS, Fox, Discovery, and more for content.

The next-generation Apple TV is said to have an A8 processor with a built-in App Store for downloading content and Siri support, plus more internal storage and a redesigned remote control.

I know you can hide these "channels" in settings, but there are so many of them now that out of the box, the Apple TV is extremely cluttered.

Kind of ridiculous that they just won't just give us an AppStore at this point.

its time to make a "TV" Channel with subchannels once you click on it. this is getting out of hand ...

We should least have folders to organize things, the UI is getting ridiculous even after hiding the crud I don't care about.

Nice addition but I'll wait for the bundled streaming package to come out so I can cancel my cable/satellite subscription.

No difference from cnn.com, then?

I don't see how this is any different than simply watching videos on cnn.com. I have a Mac connected to my big screen TV and I also have an AppleTV (which I inherited from someone else). I have yet to see where the AppleTV provides me anything more than I can already get with the Mac itself.

Do you think having App Store is going to reduce the clutter? If so, how?

I want a Dish app so I can use my Sling straight from there instead of AirPlaying from my iPad then having it connect successfully 40% of the time and not have to restart the AppleTV for Airplay to work.

No, no, no

You open it, you want to see "live," and you have to authenticate. What's the point? If I wanted to have cable, I could see CNN already! Oh, but I could see it on my iPad? Big yip.

Now, if I subscribed for a few channels (that I select) through Apple, then it makes sense.

There is a Dish Anywhere app. If you have Dish.

Cable Is Dead

I read with a smile the mention of only if you have a cable subscription. Content makers needs to wake up to the missed revenue and bypass cable. I stopped subscribing to Cable for the following reasons.

1) Too many adverts
2) As a result of too many adverts I channel hop only to find more adverts
3) Adverts 7 minutes before the end of a program, no that's not clever its very irritating to I cancel my subscription and throw money at Netflix and other content providers, it's wonderful.

So tie your subscription to Cable at your won peril, this medium is dead.

If it's like CNN online you "get" to watch a 30-60 second ad to watch a video that may be 15 seconds for every "news report" you click, including cats on roomba's, repeating short clips (filler or oatmeal it's called) while a breathless 'newscaster' describes an 'exclusive' whatever, or Mr Wolf Blitzer attempting to be relevant.

This is my wish list for the new AppleTV:

  • AppStore
  • New, more organized interface
  • Feature to "change" what displays based off the device using the AppleTV - meaning if I use my iPhone or my AppleWatch to control the device I want it to load with my settings

Why would Apple waste time bringing a dying news network/brand to the AppleTV. Get back to me when AppleTV offers a credible news channel with full support like Fox News.

Why do we not have the option to verify ONCE for everything? It is just a hassle.

Fat chance. Apple wan't TV subscription money, not 30% of a free app.

The average age of a fox viewer is almost 69 years old. I doubt Apple is aiming to cater to this demographic.

How can they give us an App Store For the current Apple TV when it doesn't even use apps?!?

Wouldn't the first have to make one that uses apps before creating an App Store and giving out a SDK so developers can create apps?
