Do you think having App Store is going to reduce the clutter? If so, how?

So clearly the current interface wouldnt work with an App Store. Personally I don't use most of the channels chosen on my behalf, so having an App Store immediately condenses the quantity of chosen channels down to those which the user would pick. How they are displayed is going to depend on a new developed and optimised interface in combination with whichever means of control Apple adopts. Nothing said here counters that an App Store is possible on atv, it clearly is possible even with the current hardware; but whether the rumour is true or not, who knows... this ones been banging around for years, and Apple only ever appear to give this product moderate to little attention.

Why would Apple waste time bringing a dying news network/brand to the AppleTV. Get back to me when AppleTV offers a credible news channel with full support like Fox News.

Credible news and Fox should not be in the same sentence. CNN is not that much better, but Fox.... Seriously?

I hate to use a pun but .. Channels are coming to Apple TV fast and furious... :)

To me IMO these new channels "require" a provider for now..

I highly doubt they will operate this way under a new model coming soon.

It's happening folks!

It's not Apple or Google pushing for change it's the marketplace. Content is king. And either the content companies follow the dollar or they will end up fragmented like the music industry who is still -- still in search of a reasonably stable revenue stream (pun).

Physical or "digital to own" Content sales across the board are down down down. There's so much alternative content out there that people no longer care who they get it from but do care about access and price.

I know you can hide these "channels" in settings, but there are so many of them now that out of the box, the Apple TV is extremely cluttered.

I would settle for 2 small changes.

1. Apple TV What's On website lists and organizes channel by category. Do the same for Apple TV's interface.

2. Add a setting "Hide all channels that require cable TV or satellite plan for full contents."

...How they are displayed is going to depend on a new developed and optimised interface in combination with whichever means of control Apple adopts...
Can I paraphrase that, please. "I have no idea how to do it..." :D

I realize the pricing issues probably reside more with the channel providers than with Apple, but - I didn't mostly "cut the cord" to save $60 a month on my cable bill just to spite Comcast (much as I think they deserve it). There's no way I'm going to pay $40/month for Apple's rumored new service - it's way overpriced, just like Cable TV.

And if I had a cable subscription to CNN, why would I really care about this app (or MLB.tv, or CBS, or ...)? These guys really don't get it.

"Starting at $69"

Anyone else notice the wording on the Apple Store web site for AppleTV says "Starting at $69" ?

But the pricing seems to End at $69 too, so looks almost like something else is coming ;)

Ha ha no you're right: I havent given it any thought. But the guy was asking for us to speculate on something we've only heard sketchy rumours about yet, and then suggesting it's not possible. Well anythings possible...

It would be nice if they could at least somehow support a single point of authentication within settings. I have DirecTV, so I should be able to enter my DirecTV credentials once and then have the option to hide all apps that I don't have viewing rights to.

I have 3 AppleTVs and having to individually log into each channel on each AppleTV is cumbersome.

Almost like a "keychain"...

I knew once I saw the title that some fox fundie would be posting this here lol.

Can't hit "Hide" fast enough to keep up with all these channels I'll never watch.

100% willing to upgrade to the next gen :apple:TV when it comes out if it means having more control over the channels/content.

I highly doubt that the next iteration of the OS will make ALL of the current channels stock apps. Not every Apple TV will come with CrunchyRoll pre-installed.

Perhaps. But there will probably be some you can't hide. And then we will get the inevitable "Why can't I hide the ____ app? It's cluttering my Apple TV interface!" complaints. :)

> Much of the content within CNNGo requires authentication through a cable provider.

Click, hide.

I don't see how this is any different than simply watching videos on cnn.com. I have a Mac connected to my big screen TV and I also have an AppleTV (which I inherited from someone else). I have yet to see where the AppleTV provides me anything more than I can already get with the Mac itself.

It provides getting rid of the cable between the Mac and the TV on the wall. That one less thing for me (or the cat) to trip over and destroy both. It also frees up a connector on the Mac for another large desk monitor.

My understanding of Apples initial "cut the cable cord" launch is that it will still be a set of channels that are all or nothing. I'd love to have ala carte style channel selection where I could select FX, AMC, Food Network, HBO, Nick, Disney, and MTV....but I bet if that ever happened it will be something like $10 per channel per month. If my suspicion on pricing is correct, I might as well keep my cable line and save my Internet bandwidth for something else.

In other words, I think the eventual Ala Carte style of cable channel selection is still going to be overpriced -- much like buying individual TV episodes from the iTunes store is overpriced.

no xfinity/comcast login

They seem to always be the last -- but I was pleased that they didn't drag their feet for too long on the FX Now app.

Hahahaha. You are being funny. I got the joke, don't worry. At least someone here clearly sees that you are being sarcastic.

Maybe your Apple TV is in another room than your cable box. I can think of reasons why you may want it on your Apple TV just like how people want HBO Go, AMC Now, and FX Now.

Kind of ridiculous that they just won't just give us an AppStore at this point.

Kind of ridiculous that they don't seem to have a list of what channels are on AppleTV. I ain't gonna' buy one until I know what is on there.
