When it's a black person in a position of power, it couldn't possibly be because they were (GASP!) qualified for the job. No one is going to hire you for a job you are not qualified to do. That's just not how business works. That is lost on people on macrumors.
Uh, it happens all the time. I could name many just in my fairly small circle of networking.

And no, I'm not talking about minorities. Most of these are idiots are "white".

Advocating the exclusion of race from the list of hiring qualifications makes you racist.

Gee, that's logical.

He implies that numerous times that hiring blacks is just "because people feel bad" rather than their actual skill level.

I believe he is saying that their is many reasons today why someone who qualified for a job more than the other person who got the job just because they were a different race and the company wanted diversity. There is no doubt that happens. And I bet Apple went out of its way to find this black woman because of that. It's all about PR.

I'm not saying she is not qualified. I'm saying they most likely intentionally wanted a black woman. This happens all the time.

That’s exactly what I’m saying, thank you. I’m not white and if I’m 100% honest I’d keep the job I got that I was less qualified for but it doesn’t make it right.

Obviously. But you knew that wasn't his/her point. Critical thinking goes a long way.

Says the person pretending to be a POC.

I read the bio of the hardware VP and it's all about silicon design. So does this mean that Dan Riccio isn't responsible for chip technology at Apple? Did that not transition to him when he took over for Bob Mansfield?

Um, I know no such thing. Have you read other posts of his? Do you know his biases? Hint: he just accused all "white" MR members of being racist.

I guess critical thinking does go somewhere.

Perhaps Race, Color, Sex, Breast size "IS" part of the qualifications for the job.

Not every qualification has to be brain/mind based you know.

The top qualifications for one job may be the most amazing pair of breasts with perfect skin.

Who decided what qualifies as a qualification for the job?

I am constantly reminded about policing as it's a little different in the UK than the US, but we are catching up!

If you have large black neighborhoods, full of black teenagers that are naturally getting up to things some teenagers do. One can understand that having Black officers in those areas may be beneficial to how the teenagers get along with the policing there.

Yes, perhaps in theory you could say well the white police applicants had slightly higher grades, but that's not going to help you as a police force deal best with some sections on the community.

The only thing he said that was questionable is that Apple probably hired Denise Young Smith because of her race. There is no evidence of that, and no reason to pin her hiring on race.

He is very much right that there is a growing trend of companies bringing race into hiring considerations. Nothing he says or does nullifies that.

Please quote where he "just accused all "white" MR members of being racist."

I'm waiting.

Except. How would you feel if somebody else that was less qualified than you got a job you’d worked damned hard and damned long for just because it was diverse?

Why do you continue to assume by default that said person is unqualified? It is as if you assume the job should go to a white male by default!

Oh please, and why the sudden focus on "black" people in particular? He does indeed briefly talk about other races and gender. But "black" has been on the forefront of his sentiment towards diversified hiring practices.

You don't know that! Where are your facts!! So one black woman and everyone is upset

It's incredible just how obvious this tokenization of Apple is. You can tell that some person or people are instituting it. For what reason? I've never seen anything so blatant. I wonder if it has anything to do with certain government entities forcing their way into Apple a few months ago?

I just find it strange these women were working there before but were not shown on the website. I always liked Apple's mysterious culture but I guess opening up is the way of the future.

Seriously!' It's like inherently power hungry of white people to think it's always unqualified minorities taking their jobs!

Why they have 90% of high ranking positions in the USA !

It's disproportional to the actual population of minorities. There should be more Hispanics Azns and blacks in power - in congress it's all white old men and executives are white men too.

It's a white American folks.

So finally the big question of "Where is a black person in their executive list?" comes to an end!

Next "Where is an Asian or Hispanic?" debate can continue.

And for those people who are now happy about the black person being there...I have a question.

"Why is it that the NFL or NBA always have more black people? Where is the diversity there?"

Yeah exactly - why is there no Affirmative Action to install token White in the NBA?

Funny thing is, in the fifties NBA had almost only white folks, and the unwritten rule was maximum 2 black players per team. Now it's the other way around. Why? Because you hire who's better, not just for the sake of having somebody different. But no, Apple needs diversity for the sake of diversity. Cook is trippin. I still love Apple but they concentrate a lot on stupid things.

Exactly - they can hire 98% blacks for the NBA, but the tech industry can't hire 98% Whites?

Yes, it clearly is tokenization for publicity, just like the Beats acquisition.

Wow and there it is.

This is why many white Americans can't work well with minorities and thus they hire more white people thus ruining this country

How is she a token? Could she not possibly been hired for her skill? Why are you implying this?

So you claim she's not a token? That this development and that of the Dr Dre Beats acquisition and Cook's new emphasis on Affirmative Action are all happening at the same time out of pure happenstance?
