*shrugs* bigger problems to worry about than what is basically industry standard of streaming services

Spot on and I agree.

But... a lot of people on internet forums need something to be OUTRAGED about in order get that little blip of feel-good power. So much so that it becomes addicting, necessitating a daily blast of outrage at some company or some person.

So you’re saying Apple follows others and is no longer special, got it.
I'm saying that in those screenshots I still see Up Next visibly, and a half scroll takes me where I need to be. I don't need to be pampered that much.

Not saying it's a great decision - no ads would be amazing. But advertisement is the reality unfortunately and this change doesn't seem that big of a deal.

Doesn’t Apple realize that the main value in AppleTV is no ads? If we wanted an interface littered with ads, we’d just use the native SmartTV interfaces?

Clearly Tim has green-lit a plan to get billions in ad money from Google and Facebook, and we’re beginning to see the implications.

it’s going to get much, much worse.
This is the main issue with Apple. Google MS yada yada, you know what you are getting. But Apple was supposed to be that supposedly protected you. Between the changes they do voluntarily, and the ones "forced" by EU, what's going to be the difference soon??

Why would Apple need to track you across different apps? They already have access to all your data on their iCloud server.
It is not clear if or how much they are using that info. I suspect they will ramp it up a lot in the coming years, collecting from more sources and leveraging that info.

If I’m not mistaken, there is an option to have the “up next” section right on your home screen above all the apps for the ATV, correct?
If so, that solves the issue people are having. Just put that on your home screen.
You can have it at the top of the Apple TV app which can be the default for the home button. But with this change, Up Next is no longer at the top in the Apple TV app.

This is what I hope happens. I don't really care what they add in a broad sense, but give me an option to turn things on/off. I really, really want my Up Next to stay up top.

It's one of the best features on the service. Will be a rubbish user experience if they bury it under giant ads.

I actually watched something the other day on the AppleTV+ app (Blackbird) and was really disappointed that they show adverts for other Apple TV shows before they show the selected program. Even Netflix isn’t that desperate and clawing. Apple must be absolutely terrified about their revenue for the next few quarters.

Ugh. No.

This is one of the things I detest about Google/Android TV, is the completely inability to block/disable ads. It's bad enough I already have to deal with it on my Xbox, my smart TV, and my non-Apple products. FFS - what option do we have as consumers?

If Apple is going to go down this route of nickel-and-diming, profit maximization, at least let the salty luddites (AKA me) pay some sort of 'no ads' fee. $10 a month? I'd pay.

I see so currently it's a nice clean interface and you have that big space where it shows a picture of the selected up next item, so they will clutter it all and make it look messy by filling that space with giant ads instead. Yeap seems to be similar to Google's TV ads.

If this is Tim Cook and Jeff Williams' ethos, I want them both fired. The whole point of buying Apple is to avoid intrusive advertising.

Laugh at me all you want.
This. I got rid of all the Amazon/Google/MSFT devices in our home strictly to avoid the flood of ads. Alexa got really bad there, where she'd answer a query and add a 'by the way...' ad at the end. Google was not much better. (Ads on a thermostat? Why not!)

We're inching closer to that episode of Black Mirror with the forced ads or death.
