It should not have if only it stayed on iOS 15 or older and had the battery been replaced...My XS sometimes stutters and freezes.

The XS is not vintage - yet....just the XS MaxVintage? I still see a quite a few people at my workplace using the XS. 😅
My work phone is still an XS and I see no reason to replace it. Still takes updates (Just updated to iOS18). Hope they don’t orphan it forcing an upgrade. That would be an awful waste.
Apple today added a few older iPhone and Apple Watch models to the vintage and obsolete products list on its website.

Apple has now classified the iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone XS Max as "vintage" worldwide. Apple considers a device to be "vintage" once five years have passed since the company stopped distributing it for sale. Apple and Apple Authorized Service Providers sometimes offer repairs for vintage devices, but only if parts remain available.
Note that if you have an iPhone 6s Plus with 32GB of storage, that particular configuration was already classified as "obsolete" prior to today.
Apple has yet to add the smaller iPhone XS and iPhone 6s models to the "vintage" list.
In addition, aluminum and stainless steel Apple Watch Series 2 models are now classified as "obsolete" worldwide, but the high-end Series 2 model with a ceramic case has yet to be added to the list. Apple considers a device to be "obsolete" once seven years have passed since the company stopped distributing it for sale. Once a device is obsolete, it is no longer eligible for repair at Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, with the only exception being MacBook battery replacements for up to a 10-year period.

Yeah it’s weird. Our XR isn’t officially vintage yet either. The XS is not vintage - yet....just the XS Max
they must get regular battery replacements lolVintage? I still see a quite a few people at my workplace using the XS. 😅
Lol now you can call them vintage also. I wonder what iPhone I will have when I decide not to upgrade every year or two. Probably the iPhone 40 lol.Vintage? I still see a quite a few people at my workplace using the XS. 😅
I’m still on my original battery in my XS Max. Just checked the battery health and it is 77% (needs service).they must get regular battery replacements lol

Same. I had the iPhone XS Max at launch and skipped the 11 Pro Max.The iPhone XS was the longest I used the same iPhone, it was/is a fantastic device.
Usually the vintage designation depends more on the date of release not the date of discontinuation but I agree the latter does sometimes matter to a certain extent. So it makes sense it hasn’t been made vintage yet. It will most likely be declared vintage next year (2025).Apple was still selling the XR new until September 2021. It shouldn't become "vintage" until at least September 2026.
SAME (expect that bit with the 16PM, easily the worst iPhone I’ve had)The XS was one of the last big updates. I thought the 13 Pro Max line was next biggest jump. I haven’t been blown away by an update since then, although the 16 Pro Max comes closest with the insane battery.
Why is that? I’ve had a pretty swell time with my 16 Pro MaxSAME (expect that bit with the 16PM, easily the worst iPhone I’ve had)
I am holding onto my XS Max like my life depends on it. It’s the last iPhone with 3D Touch and I just can’t do without. I’m keeping it until its last breath.A device doesn't explode when it's marked Vintage. It means Apple just doesn't stock the parts anymore - there's often some leeway but it's not guaranteed.
And in most cases someone with a device this age is looking to cheaper third party shops for repairs.

SaaaaameNow I can say I have a vintage iPhone!
I think it’s a tired design, with little imagination but that’s just a personal call. Objectively the camera control button is awful- it’s in the wrong place which doesn’t serve to help with portrait or landscape photography. Plus It’s fiddly and inconsistent to use unless you turn off a lot of the features- it’s a hallmark of poor design to hide scads of controls under some mystery meat navigation button. The Dynamic Island is awful, the screen is just passable. The software is buggy and Apple is only interested in overwhelmingly inconsistent AI features (drip fed over a year) over any serious stability and bug fixing. The battery is still not cutting it. It’s heavier despite the middling battery performance. It offers nothing that the 13PM does arguably better. Apple lost the story on computational photography and it produces some wacky results unless you fiddle with the camera. It’s no longer a good point and shoot. It’s got all this power under the hood and it’s ill-served by the OS, it’s getting to be iPad levels of awful in terms of the software letting the hardware down. Wireless charging isn’t great either. The front glass is somehow made worse each year and this one is no exception. The speakers are terrible. If work hadn’t forced it on me I’d have stuck with my 15PM because I detest this thing so much. Why is that? I’ve had a pretty swell time with my 16 Pro Max![]()
I agree about the Camera Control and the speakers. Battery life has been pretty solid for me thus far.I think it’s a tired design, with little imagination but that’s just a personal call.
