In before the obligatory "great, more channels to hide" and "what about those of us not in the US" posts.

But this actually is the main problem of nearly all recent Apple TV updates. They are only available to a reduced number of customers and though seen as not relevant to be mentioned or discussed.

Does anyone know how big each channel is? 5mb? 50mb? More and more channels get added and I can just hide them but i would prefer to delete them. While so far I haven't seen space issue limitations, I would guess I could hold more of my owned movies and shows in the temp space if they keep adding cable channels that I don't have each month.

How to move TV icons/channels

To move icons/channels on your TV home screen, highlight an icon/channel, hold down the select button on the remote, when the icon "wiggles" use the directional buttons on the remote to place the icon/channel in a new position, press select to stop the "wiggle".

There's a ton of chatter about this in the developer circles close to Apple. Like way more than the typical rumor creates. I suppose it could be motivated by "well, it's got to happen this time", but it seems more like a legitimate indicator it will happen.

This same chatter was present about a year ago. I think apple is holding off releasing new hardware because they want to coincide hardware and service but the agreements have not been signed yet. Hence the more than a one year delay. Sucks!

Hopefully this forced vomiting of channels is temporary and Apple will announce an AppleTV store where channels can be downloaded if wanted versus hidden if not wanted.

It will take a re-architecting of the underlying software. The way I understand it, is that unlike a normal OS X or iOS device, where you have an operating system and a series of applications that run on that OS, the Apple TV interface is one giant application (running on iOS), with new channels just being additional features added to that one application.

Until they re-write it to have a base "ATV OS" with apps running on top, an App Store is not particularly feasible, at least as you're seeing it - as it stands, every app/channel will still have to be included in the base program, which limits the number of total apps/channels in the catalog.

Presumably that's what Apple has been doing these past couple of years, no? The current GUI was never great but it's absolutely clunky now and can't bear the weight of additional channels. Asking the consumer to delete unwanted bloat is one of those things that annoys people about MS Products, right?

There's been lots of chatter every time.

Let's just say it's a little different in nature than previous rumblings, both in source and intensity. It might be false positive, but it's definitely more positive than prior years. I've been in the tech sector a _long_ time and it's definitely setting off my Spidey Sense :D

The whole point of getting away from cable is to get away from package subscriptions. Should be piece meal, channel here, channel there.....

So TED has its own channel. When they had Monica Lawinski giving a talk I stopped paying attention to them. TED Talks used to be fascinating discussions from great people. Now they are just click baiting media w****s.

Actually, Monica Lewinsky has gotten interesting in her middle-age. She basically talks about what it's like to have one's life dragged through the public media at an extremely young age and be totally unprepared for it. It's interesting to hear that side of it, as most of us just get blasted with the judgmental-moralizing-grandstanding-bombastic-voyeuristic-parasitic-grandstanding media viewpoint when these scandals happen. It's interesting to contrast that with an actual human perspective. Like it or not, these types of spectacles are now part of modern human culture.

This is the stupidity of these rumor sites. They just guess and guess and guess and eventually if you throw out enough guesses one is bound to be right. Then people buy their random guesses as fact and praise them as being experts. So silly.

And yet, clearly, you enjoying coming here and participating in this random silliness.

I've always seen AppleTV as similar to NewsStand or iBooks on my iPhone. The interface is basically a container running on iOS that contains the various media. My guess is that any revamp will simply be allowing us to see the iOS main level outside of this container.

Unlike most though I don't buy into the rumors and don't get sad and cry about it on the forums when a rumor doesn't come true. If only more people here understood what the word "rumor" means and got that it's not a guarantee.

At least once. When they brought out the Apple TV 3.

The 3 is really no different than the 2. Adding slightly better streaming quality doesn't mean a full version upgrade in the minds of most.
