If I double click the "hello" from my Desktop it says that the Hello Saver already exists as part of the system. But I can't find it in the Screensaver settings...

I see little to no point in a screensaver these days and even more so with a M1 Mac with instant wake from sleep. Seriously what is the benefit of this it should really be considered to be mothballed by Apple in the days of fast SSD’s and LED’s.
So the computer can process long tasks without the need for the screen to be frozen on one image.

What I really want to know is if is safe to upgrade a MacBook Air 2017 to Big Sur, or if I rather keep on Catalina. I have read that some users have experienced speed and performance degradation. What do you think?
I’m one of the unfortunate ones. My late 2015 iMac suffers from serious performance issues since upgrading to big sur. According to Apple Support it’s caused by a bug in big Sur related to Fusion Drives. Now I’m afraid to upgrade my even older MacBook Pro, even while it doesn’t have a fusion drive.

But if I were you I would just give it a try. I guess the problem is not that widespread.

The comments on here are hilarious! What a bunch of miserable people you are sometimes!!!
  • Uses too much energy
  • Not needed with modern VESA standards
  • Too hard to find
  • Too much disk space (1.1MB ROFL)
  • Screensavers should be removed
Honestly people....lighten up. I thought it was pretty cool and what's more, I enjoy my aerial screen saver that probably uses up several GB's in videos but it brightens my day.

Also, in the hope that it makes you quiver, I have it running across 3 displays on my M1 MBP and it's glorious!

Eventually, however, after about 30 minutes, my system will go to sleep but I'm a big screensaver fan.

Have a lovely day!

Is it a gold MBA in the picture, or is it silver but with a pink hue because of the image?

This is a perfect example of: why didn’t they think of this sooner? - they’ve had the “hello” and “hello (again)” wordmark on device screens enough times in product introductions and marketing photography.

It’ll become even more prominent with this move, especially if it’s the default screensaver on the new iMac.

what if we're not running big sur? can we install hello.saver on older versions of MacOS?
Why would you want to? The whole point of a screen saver is that it displays when you are not using the machine. If you are not using the machine, the screen should be asleep (not burning energy displaying the fact that the screen isn't in use).

Thought I'd be smart and copy the file from my 12 inch MacBook running 11.3 to my MacBook Pro running 11.2.3

Apple thought of that.

Well, I am on Mojave until my Mac dies and than bye.

Re instant wake-up, I'm assuming you've never run long-running processes then? These would be stopped when the device slept.

I just blank the screen/turn the screen off, don't see the point of screensavers nowadays.

As long as your machine has SSD, it will be fine.

I haven't used a screen saver in years. I just use a hot corner to turn off my Mac screen when not in use.

If I did use a screen saver, I would use something other than "hello." It probably looks better on the bigger iMac screen versus a 13" Macbook.
I also use a hot corner to turn off my Mac screen.

Don't usually use screensavers, but this one looks good.

It's just a bit of fun, buddy.

Doesn't work on my Intel MacBook Pro 2016. Double click and it just opens System Preferences with no dialog to install
