So the computer can process long tasks without the need for the screen to be frozen on one image.I see little to no point in a screensaver these days and even more so with a M1 Mac with instant wake from sleep. Seriously what is the benefit of this it should really be considered to be mothballed by Apple in the days of fast SSD’s and LED’s.
I’m one of the unfortunate ones. My late 2015 iMac suffers from serious performance issues since upgrading to big sur. According to Apple Support it’s caused by a bug in big Sur related to Fusion Drives. Now I’m afraid to upgrade my even older MacBook Pro, even while it doesn’t have a fusion drive. What I really want to know is if is safe to upgrade a MacBook Air 2017 to Big Sur, or if I rather keep on Catalina. I have read that some users have experienced speed and performance degradation. What do you think?
Why would you want to? The whole point of a screen saver is that it displays when you are not using the machine. If you are not using the machine, the screen should be asleep (not burning energy displaying the fact that the screen isn't in use).what if we're not running big sur? can we install hello.saver on older versions of MacOS?
Well, I am on Mojave until my Mac dies and than bye. What I really want to know is if is safe to upgrade a MacBook Air 2017 to Big Sur, or if I rather keep on Catalina. I have read that some users have experienced speed and performance degradation. What do you think?

As long as your machine has SSD, it will be fine. What I really want to know is if is safe to upgrade a MacBook Air 2017 to Big Sur, or if I rather keep on Catalina. I have read that some users have experienced speed and performance degradation. What do you think?
But you can just turn the display off with a hot corner, and leave the tasks running in the background. The computer can be prevent from sleeping with Drive Alive / Caffeine, etc.So the computer can process long tasks without the need for the screen to be frozen on one image.
Check it:I miss the flying toasters!
I also use a hot corner to turn off my Mac screen.I haven't used a screen saver in years. I just use a hot corner to turn off my Mac screen when not in use.
If I did use a screen saver, I would use something other than "hello." It probably looks better on the bigger iMac screen versus a 13" Macbook.
It's just a bit of fun, buddy.I see little to no point in a screensaver these days and even more so with a M1 Mac with instant wake from sleep. Seriously what is the benefit of this it should really be considered to be mothballed by Apple in the days of fast SSD’s and LED’s.
Oh yes, the good ole days. God forbid Talking Moose ever comes back!
