Anyone know if DirecTV will work for DirecTV Now logins? They might access the same database.

I wonder if tvOS 10.1 fixes the dire Wi-Fi? It drops out after 2 minutes, and tells me that Home Sharing isn't enabled. It is enabled, and to get the Apple TV to work again, I have to restart it. That's a bit useless though, because it only works for another 2 minutes before I have to restart it again. Repeat ad infinitum, or just turn the bloody thing off and use the 3rd-gen that has no problems with Wi-Fi.

Apple is continuing to add new providers to its Single Sign-on feature in tvOS 10.1 and iOS 10.2, and today introduced Single Sign-on support for four new providers: CenturyLink Prism, Hawaiian Telecom, MetroCast, and GTA (available in Guam). GVTC Communications, previously listed as a Single Sign-on option, has been removed.

With the new additions, when tvOS 10.1 and iOS 10.2 become available for the public, Single Sign-on will be available for eight cable subscription options: DirecTV, Dish, Hotwire, Sling TV, CenturyLink Prism, Hawaiian Telecom, MetroCast, and GTA. Apple will continue adding support for additional providers as it manages to secure the necessary deals.

Single Sign-on allows Apple TV and iOS users to enter their cable credentials once and then sign in to all available live cable content, even across multiple apps. Single Sign-on works automatically when you have a cable subscription through a participating provider, prompting you allow a compatible app to use your sign in credentials.

Many cable channels offer individual apps on the Apple TV and iOS devices, but still require cable authentication to access content. Without Single Sign-on, users need to enter their cable information for each app, a process that's a huge hassle.

Apps that take advantage of Single Sign-on and user cable subscriptions will be easier to find and track in tvOS 10.1 and iOS 10.2, with content located in the new "TV" app that's been introduced.

We expect to see tvOS 10.1 and iOS 10.2 introduced to the public next week alongside macOS Sierra 10.12.2 and watchOS 3.1.1.

What I can not understand, if I type in my credentials for Comcast, why can not Apple TV remember that and then supply it when asked for by the app? Why do I need to do it EVERY single time I use the damn app? It just seems odd....that is all.

What will happen is, when you first try to sign into a specific app, it will ask for permission to use your SSO credentials. You'll then say no, and *hopefully* will be presented with the standard form to use whatever account you want.

It'll be mildly annoying, but at least you'll be able to keep using multiple accounts.

Wow...your family is nice. I hope you make them good dinner for using their credentials.

Can't wait to try single sign on next week to set up an Apple TV 4. Holding off on upgrade from an Apple TV 3 until this is released. I will switch from Time Warner to Sling TV at that time and see what gets supported.

You've got a broken Apple TV 4. Just take it back. I get insanely fast wi-fi on my Apple TV 4 (speed test regularly reads above 200), better than my iPhone 6s and vastly better than my old iMac.

Sounds like you have a faulty Apple TV. I have 2 of them and neither experience any of these issues. Both are rock-solid.

Because DirectTV team has it together and UVerse is the annoying step child.

More than likely they will not put the work into Uverse because its being phased out. They don't continue development on things they are abandoning.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...-on-u-verse-as-it-pushes-users-toward-directv

AT&T Inc. is phasing out the U-verse TV service as it pushes new customers to newly acquired DirecTV, a sign the company is giving up on once-heralded plans to compete head-on with cable through telephone lines.

The biggest U.S. pay TV provider has stopped building U-verse set-top boxes and is nudging prospective customers toward its satellite unit, which has lower hardware and programming costs. The shift is the first stage of a plan to create a “home gateway” within three years that will consolidate all AT&T services and act as a central hub to deliver video to any device.

Right on. I'm on Centurylink Prism. Now I'm confused.

My Centurylink Internet is 1GB Internet and the funny part is my Prism TV is IPTV over the same Gigibit connection.

I just tried to sign in. It looks like it doesn't work when DirectTV is bundled with your att internet.

AT&T owns DIRECTV.

Maybe they meant U-verse. I'd really appreciate U-verse single sign on. AT&T wants everyone to switch to DirectTV to justify their purchase so us U-verse customers keep getting shafted.

Uverse as a TV platform is being faded out in favor of DIRECTV according to the technician that switched us from Uverse to DIRECTV.

U-verse recently had a major UX facelift in the last month or so. The installers are supposed to push DTV, but they don't have to... U-verse is not going away (yet). U-verse > DTV when it comes to channel order and options.

I think single-sign on makes it easy for customers to drop renting boxes or stop paying for DVR and possibly buy more on iTunes. This is a roadblock for Xfinity and Fios.

Most of the providers listed are smaller OR like DirecTV have a different approach to TV. And are accepting of the changes and knows their demographic is eager to have this.

Single-sign on benefits the user and Apple by making their TV box appealing.

Besides, I don't quite get this... If people already have this stuff on their subscription cable boxes, who cares if it's on their Apple TV?

Off the top of my head, the NBC Sports app shows every Premier League match live, which isn't possible on a cable box.
