Where's the "how to" on using iMessage without restarting your iPhone every few hours? With iOS 7, anyway.

I have never read a manual or guide or any iOS device. I did not think you needed to. Not saying I am against it, maybe I would learn some new tricks...

"Because despite us "dumbing it down", moron's still can't figure out how to work a freaking Phone, something thats been around for over 100 years and our personal one nearly 7 years !!!:D

:):D:)…..This is better than iPhone For Dummies…..These tips are actually quite useful, especially for those new to iPhones (and also for those of us too lazy, to read the iPhone User Guide's in-depth documentation).

Did they update the 4s to be compatible with airdrop, or is that just a mistake?
Under the "maps: share a pin" section.

So did apple just completely eliminate the iPhone 5 from everything?

Yes, and it's outrageous! Apple ought to feature the iPhone 5 everywhere they feature the phones that they actually sell, in order to make the owners of the iPhone 5 feel better about their cellphone! In fact, I've got a right mind to file a lawsuit against Apple for my low self esteem that was caused by them carelessly kicking my phone to the curb like it's common garbage...

Shame. The iPhone was always so obvious and simple. It never had a manual because it didn't need one, and with iOS 7, Apple threw the baby out with the bathwater. Now, the iPhone is no longer the universal smartphone. It's no longer "the phone for the rest of us."

It's just Android. If I wanted Android, I would have bought a Nexus (I do get quite tempted from time to time), not an iPhone.

The iPhone should be an iPhone. Not some cheesy Windows Phone knockoff with Vista transparency effects added, because, what the hell? It's Apple. Why the hell not?

Better get use to it. It will be the official iOS layout for the next 5 years at least.

Nobody had seen anything similar to a modern smartphone interface as defined by Apple in 2007. And now in 2013 everybody and their dog has a smartphone and the functions of a smartphone are no longer some kind of crazy contraptions to most people. So it may be the time to stop the babysitting and include some more advanced gestures throughout the system.

For novice users, I think the clues in iOS 6 are still there. For example, while you can swipe from the left edge to the right to go back, you can still use the old back button which is at the same place. Some "tips" have been there since iOS 5 or 6 (like the stupid "Insert Photo or Video" button in Mail) but were never clearly documented on Apple's website.

Oh come on. The smartest person doesn't necessarily have to be a techy, nor would it make them comfortable with tech. The tips n tricks aren't there to show a person how to dial a phone.

I think his point is not that anybody doesn't know how to use their phone, it just that we used to read high praise for the iPhone UI for the extremely clever, simple and well thought out ways the design informed users how things worked, in many cases without them even needing to touch the screen.

There is an impression now that this has been thrown out of the window. Intuitiveness takes second place to somebody's notion of 'design' which only seems to be skin deep. The reduction of almost everything to monochrome and the fanatical removal of any texture or detail for favour of plain text and circles has left little place for strokes of intuitive genius.

Both the above positions may be an exaggeration, but its how some people feel. I roll my eyes every time I read about some new mystery-meat swipe gesture that has no on-screen motivation, or another circle or dot that is supposed to be conveying some kind of information or prompting some kind of action.

Well if iOS is now considered harder to use you can thank Fandroids and Restless Apple users for constantly calling iOS "Boring" because it didn't have all the bells and whistles of the Android OS. At some point Apple had to listen to their customers and take something simple and intuitive and now make it a UI that needs some figuring out. Still not the complete hot mess that Android is. That OS is all over the place. Still, Apple is providing "Tips and Tricks", those videos are not called, "iOS 101". The smartest techy doesn't know every small feature of the system as much as they think they do. Heck, I've been a Mac power user for the past 15 years and just 5 years ago I found out how to make the  symbol from the keyboard. There's always room for Tips and Tricks but the egos of some people get flustered because they feel they are un-teachable and are "know-it-alls".

I know that you're joking, but still... :) I have an iPhone 5, and I am personally not a bit angry that they discontinued it, because think about it: now it looks like almost completely the current flagship (the 5S). They didn't discontinue it because it was garbage, but they wanted to made a more obvious disctinction between the flagship and the "not the flagship" model (and thus spare some money too).

I wonder if they will continue this strategy. Will they discontinue the 5S and put its hardware into a plastic house next year? Or are we going to see a more diverse product range? (iPhone with 4,2-4,3 screen??) Time will tell. But long story short: all the iPhone 5 owners should feel good now, because Apple discontinued iPhone 5 for the reason that it was so good that it would've easily ruined the 5C sells :D

Haha, I never thought about that, actually... people will probably think your 5 is a 5S when the latter becomes really common.

But they did include the 4S, how does that make sense?

Because they still sell the iPhone 4S. When you go into an Apple store it is still on display and available for $0 with 2 year contract, iPhone 5 is nowhere to be seen (except, of course, as the iPhone 5c)

They could have been dicks and left iPhone 5 out, but so many of the iPhone 5 phones that they sold last year are still under contract (and some under applecare+) that it would have been bad PR to leave it out of iOS 7 (plus, they originally introduced iOS 7 on an iPhone 5 (the flagship phone at the time) and it runs it just as well as the iPhone 5c (and better than the 4S) why not include it...

I said slightly, I still love iOS 7 and computers are a major hobby of mine. Half my friends don't like it at all but I think it's a good update overall. Have to say I wouldn't be overly receptive of such a flat redesign in OSX, but I think it works well on mobile devices.

That said, something "techy" as let's say, connecting to a VPN, probably won't be much of an issue to someone who knows what that is :p
