I haven't seen a retreat like this since the Germans in the Battle of Stalingrad.

Perhaps they should just be honest and stick a "Lol" or "Old" tag over the Mac Pro?

How about "Clearance" ??? Probably the only reason they removed the "New" tag from the site was to avoid getting sued for product misrepresentation.

And coming up with something "in 2013" is total B.S., and a huge FAIL on Apple's part. People should be FIRED over this.

Note the Buyers Guide has been changed back to "don't buy." Though the 600-day count remains reset.
.
Wow, so once it gets reset, the Mac Pro is basically looking at 964 days without an update??!!!?!?!! Absolutely pathetic.

Retina on 13" macbook pro?

Does anyone know or have any idea if they will manufacture 13" macbook pro with retina display or will it only be for the 15" model ones?

Please respond to this thread if any of you know the answer to my question .

thank you.

The Retina display MacBook Pros will only be available in the 15" models.

I really needed a machine to get started on a video editing project, and had been holding out months for this update. I was royally pissed and ready to switch to Windows last night, but I priced out the Dell and HP towers, and looking at a price comparison on dual 6-cores, Apple came out quite a bit lower priced at the 2.4, 12-core option with SSD boot and 6TBs of internal storage (which means I won't really need to use the TB peripherals for active workflow), so I bit the bullet and bought the beast. I suppose the processors are dated and I have to forego Thunderbolt, USB3 and blu-ray writing, but in the end the $6000 stopgap 12-core Apple dinosaur option was still more appealing than forking over $10000 and moving my whole life to Windows, despite the allure of 16 cores and all that. I am hoping the big metal dinosaur will behave.

I absolutely would NOT have made this purchase if Apple hadn't sent signals/assurances after the update that it is going to maintain/update this line in the future.

I hate to say it, but in the end I couldn't make the switch. Will I regret it? Hopefully not.

I'm thinking you won't regret it. I bought a 12 core 2.66 in December and it FLIES! Sure, it doesn't have usb 3.0 or Tbolt, but there aren't as many peripherals for those just yet. The graphics card maybe 2 years old, but I haven't had any issues.

I'm hopeful the rumours of Apple confirming a new machine is coming in 2013 is true. The minor update sure has people fired up and who knows, maybe all the emails to Apple will help ensure it does get updated.

I can completely understand how ppl are upset at the 'update', but let's have some faith - they apparently confirmed new ones are coming and at least they did update it (albeit in a very minor way).

Cheers,
Keebler

In my country (Portugal), all the (cough) "updated" Mac Pros are now 200 EUR more expensive, but I've been reading that in the US and other countries it is cheaper?

Can anyone confirm this?

In NZ the quad model is now $400 cheaper, and the hex (BTO) and 12-core models are about $3000 cheaper.

Bad Apple! Bad Apple!!

Happens once in a while;)
Yes, the Mac Pro is value-wise currently one bad Apple (although not as bad as those who compare it to other brands' desktops, as opposed to workstation class machines, would have us believe).

If they couldn't even bother to revise the motherboard and ports to add USB3, at least Apple could have dropped the price more to reflect the dated specs.

I have the feeling that Mac Pro sales are going to tank in the next 12+ months, and then I wonder if the promised update ever will happen.

They did actually drop the price. I posted a link to a HP workstation with similar spec (but without graphics card) in the other thread. It's about the same price.

I haven't seen a retreat like this since the Germans in the Battle of Stalingrad.

It wasn't a retreat, it was a defeat and surrender! I must know, because my grand-father died there... At least get your facts straight.

I don't get why people are still so obsessed to pull German history into everything? Why not something like "the biggest desaster since Vietnam" or "the war of 1812"?

Because I am not American.

Respect your elders, sonny. And stop playing on the grass. Damn kids these days.

I doubt your old enough to warrant such a demand and im sure the reference to the battle of stalingrad was pretty much guaranteed to be a joke. I asked anyway.

As for respecting my elders and calling me sonny or the likes, theres absolutely no need for that. My grandfather and his family were exiled from Poland to Siberia and was forced to fight for the Soviets in WWII. I have most of his medals (my cousin has the others), but I'm proud to say that despite being forced into such conditions, he fought first in line from Siberia all the way to the battle of berlin, for which I have his final medal for that as well.

Might not want to be so quick to judge others...

I am not really sure what your point is. I am Polish. I grew up in Poland. My family were hugely and tragically affected by the war. My grandfather on my mother's side was captured by the Red Army as they moved westwards towards Berlin "liberating" Poland. He spent a number of years in a Russian POW camp after WW II finished.

My other grandfather was younger and barely in his teens when the war started. His parents were killed in the war and he hid with his two younger sisters in various places throughout the war trying to look after them. The communists then took away most of my mother's family's land.

Where did I judge anybody? Are we even reading the same posts? It feels like you're trying to prove a point that does not exist and have an argument that is based on nothing.

Ja naprawde nie wiem i nie rozumiem o czym ty mówisz.

Damn!... He fought for the Red Army and they still made him a POW? Ouch!...

Where did I say that he fought for the Red Army?

"as they moved" does not mean The Red Army and my grandfather. It means The Red Army.

You made a joke about not seeing something since the battle of stalingrad, and I one upped you by asking how old you are (youd have to be in your 70s).

....not a lot of 70+ year old macrumors around here.

Nie bylo potrzeby na madrkowanie ze niby jestem mlodym.

But anyway, looks like we have a similar family background... too bad we didn't give the Russians an ass kicking during todays (er, yesterdays) match... but i think the hooligans took care of that after.

He didn't. He was captured. My grandfather was captured, held prisoner along with the rest of his family in siberia and then forced to fight for the soviets against the germans. All Polish ties upon capture were tossed, the russians didnt care.

I was simply continuing the joke and not trying to insult you. It was meant to sound like a stereotypical thing that a grumpy old man would say. I apologise since it clearly came out the wrong way.

I am not here to argue since I am still too upset about the 2012 Mac Pro "refresh".

Rehashing is more fitting than refresh. I ditched my 1st Gen Mac Pro last year. I needed a laptop for school anyway and since the mid 2011 was literally twice as fast as my old mac pro, I was more than happy with its performance and now use it more like a desktop; rain mStand with a 24" Dell U2410 along with full sized keyboard and logitech mx518 mouse.

I got used to the ridiculous crap i put up with in regards to video cards. Not much you can do about ram other than adding more, and the processors isnt exactly a cheap upgrade either, may as well sell and buy a new mac pro. As for the video cards.... the choices have always been a slap to the face of the mac pro consumer. I figured; if i dont have much of a choice on the mac pro, I may as well just stick to the macbook pro because obviously Apple doesnt want me upgrading anything at all, so im screwed.

I'd get a hackintosh but i dont really feel like maintaining a proper running version of it. Ive got it working on a Sony Vaio desktop before, but that was about 5 years ago when simple updates would require (more or less) a complete reinstall. Im sure things are better now but that experience left a sour taste. That and the fact that im NOT willing to let a disgusting design of a case sit anywhere in either my bedroom or studio.

ps, wszystko spoko z kawalami, nie ma i nie bylo o co sie burzyc, z mojej strony tez.

They should just change "New" to "Meh" in the same font so the lulz ensue.

You mean like this?

Nie ma sprawy (zprawy?). To jest dlugi czas jak ja musialem pisac albo czytac po Polsku. :D

The good news (hopefully) is the Forbes article

http://www.forbes.com/sites/connieg...esigns-for-imac-mac-pro-in-works-due-in-2013/

I am not really sure what this all means though. It feels as though Apple has dropped the ball on the Mac Pro and didn't fully expect the backlash it would cause. I just see back peddling here. They need another year to come up with something better than 2 year old CPUs and a 3 year old graphics card?
