Apple Again Rumored to Announce iOS 26 Next Month

lmao - thanks for spelling that out. I was wondering what they would be called after you said that everything would be called 26, but you certainly saved me there! /s
However as Apple is going from iOS 18 to 26 and skipping 19, those features won’t be released. See how that goes. 😉
So how do you calculate a leap year? That is going to be the real Y2.1K problem

Then in 2027 they called it "Really new OS" and in '28 "Ultra-New" and then "super-ulta-new" and then "hyper new pro", "Super ultra-new".
Apple could keep this line of names going for decades.
You think I'm kidding. Look what BMW is doing with their name "Neue Klasse". What is next? "Noch Neuer Klasse". So it looks like BMW is on this path. It is the new trend, at least until the even newer trend.

I worked in the cellular industry for 2+ decades and I enjoyed seeing things streamlined. Like Google coming out with Cupcake, Donut, Eclair and finally moving away from that.
I didn't mind the idea of iOS being renamed to the year... to me naming it a year off is silly. Sure they can do it.... but to me just keep it the year in question. I'm a classic car guy and have to remind people all the time that sales of the 1961 such and such car were introduced in like Sept/Oct 1960 for the 1961 model year. They still say I am wrong in social media posts because its a 1961 model. If that is still confusing people 60 years later imagine your grandma on with tech support. Whatever. I'm still running iOS 17.7 due to the horrendous updates made to the Photos add I use daily. I'll keep on keep'n on in my own lane.

Instead of MacOS 100, it likely will be MacOS as a Service over the internet as a subscription. No more disconnected standalone option.

Anyone with a brain will wrap their head around this quickly. Marketing wise makes perfect sense. Why would I want to be OS 25 in July of 26? What do you mean 26 isn’t out and won’t be until Q4!? Apple is that slow?
Now hey I’ve been on iOS 26 all of 2026! Now in Q4 I’m upgrading to 27 a couple of months early. All positives instead of negatives. I’m not behind I’m ahead.
Same for developers AAA game coming to iOS 26!
This is great for OS but would be 1000x better for hardware which sadly will never happen. They would never do it because then they would have to say things like firmware update for AirPods Pro 2020 and people would once again associate it as old. Yes that already happens today in forums like this, but this would make it more obvious to the masses and not just us nerds that analyze this stuff all the time.
God it would be so much easier next year iPhone 27 on iOS 27 historically iPhone 27 was supported for six years iOS 27-33.

I don’t have an issue with this. Especially if they do the same with the actual devices:
iPhone 26 instead of iPhone 17
iPad 26 instead of the new new iPad 😂

And next year people won't be confused when their iPhone 26 is updated to iOS 27? And why does it have an A19 Pro chip in it instead of an A26?
You're never going to see a Volkswagen Atlas 26 advertised. That doesn't communicate what they are trying to say with the marketing. You will always see either 2026 VW Atlas, or VW Atlas (2026). This is how it's done. Apple is not going to fix their naming scheme by simply advancing it forward 9 iterations.
And that right there is Apple my friend, with one change as slight as just a “number change” they can shift the attention totally, they are geniuses say whatever you say about them.
What will the first update be called? iOS 26, Service Pack 1?
Everyone knows you should wait for Service Pack 2
