I have 3 in my house. They have been great since iOS 18 where you can pick your hub. I picked my AppleTV 4k that is wired to our network. All the cameras respond great and quickly.
good to know.
the circle is a nice bit of hardware but useless unless 100% reliable. Do you have literally zero downtime when you look back on the timeline?

Apple is apparently trying, or about to try, pretty much anything these days. They know that, soon, the iPhone upgrade cycle time wise will more closely resemble Macs, and they are looking for more revenue streams.

I second all that have had issues with HSV. I bought an Eve outdoor camera it kept dropping the connection. Then I upgraded to a mesh wifi system (synology) because I thought it was the wifi. Now there are two mesh nodes fairly close to (within 30ft). The camera will disconnect and then suddenly reconnect out of nowhere. My network is not nearly as robust as those described but certainly enough for this. Once iOS 18 came out I experimented with the "main" homekit node and no dice. The camera now has been offline for six weeks. i just tried to reset it and it didnt work either.

I'm considering new Eufy S3 pro . I like that it has its own "brains" and I can directly hardwire that into a node. Also it supposedly can run off of solar which gives me more location options. It also runs HSV which for privacy reasons is a must requirement for me. I know Eufy doesn't have the best reputation on that front but since I will only set it up through homekit I should be ok. Anyone try this new line up with homekit?

Good luck to all, I'd love for apple to get into the Airport and Camera game but I don't see it happening. They got out of Airport for a reason (RIP :( ) and cameras also seem like a weird category for them to join.

Cheers,
Philly

My Aqara ... is very fully featured. I don’t see myself replacing it unless somebody made something better in all aspects.
Which one do you have? I just purchased an Aqara G2H Pro to use on my covered porch despite it being an indoor camera.

I have the same problem. Eufy cameras connect via the homebase, which in turn connects to the network....mine is hardwired via ethernet, and they will still miss things. I never have the problem, on the same cameras, when I'm using Eufy's software without homekit. My Apple TV is my homekit bridge, and it's hardwired as well.

I'm trying to get away, completely, from proprietary cameras. My next will (hopefully) be RTSP/ONVIF.

Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo today again said that Apple plans to release its own HomeKit-enabled wireless smart home camera in 2026.

Logitech Circle View camera

In a blog post about Apple's smart home plans, Kuo said the camera will have tight integration with the rumored HomePod with a display. It is likely that the camera would be sold as an optional accessory alongside the new HomePod hub, providing customers with a home security solution entirely designed by Apple for the first time ever.

Apple would almost certainly tout the privacy and security benefits of its own smart home camera compared to competitors. The company already offers HomeKit Secure Video, which leverages iCloud to securely stream and store video clips from compatible HomeKit cameras, with end-to-end encryption. HomeKit Secure Video cameras can be managed through the Home app on Apple devices, just like other HomeKit accessories. Examples of HomeKit Secure Video cameras include the Logitech Circle View and the Eve Cam.

Apple's smart home camera could also have some additional features not available on third-party HomeKit cameras, but no specifics are known yet.

Kuo expects Apple to begin mass production of the HomePod with a display in the second half of 2025, but he did not provide a release timeframe. He expects the device to feature a 6-7 inch display, an A18 chip, and Apple Intelligence support.

It is not entirely clear if Kuo is referring to the same Apple smart home hub that Bloomberg's Mark Gurman expects to launch as early as March 2025. Gurman said the hub will have around a six-inch display and support Apple Intelligence, so some of the rumored specifications sound the same at the very least. Gurman said the hub can be mounted on a wall, or attached to an optional HomePod-like speaker base. If these rumored devices are one and the same, then a launch might be a little further away than previously expected.

I’m not interested in another “2k” camera. Which is what this will be.

Ironically, my Google Home Hub has been giving me issues. No audio and having to restart it a few times over the years. Give me a 7” display with FaceTime, Apple Intelligence, and Matter support. Then I’d love a 4K (but I’ll take full HD) indoor and outdoor camera (and doorbell) with face, package, animal, and car detection with a microphone and speaker, and built-in battery. PoE would be great but I’m not holding my breath. Then I’d love a Home security system with door/window and motion sensors.

I don't know how they plan to compete with products that are guaranteed to be far less expensive. I buy cheap Wyze cams and they cost practically nothing but have great quality. Notifications, records the last several days of notifications, solid quality on the cameras, etc.

I have the G3, it replaced an older Canary Pro cam. which aside from not being HKSV compatible was maybe one of the biggest pieces of junk I’ve ever had the misfortune of using. The Aqara is much more functional and better in every way (aside from the quieter speaker)

Wired ethernet cameras are the only solution. Radio jammers exist and some criminals are getting high-tech, so good luck trying to capture and save video from a wireless camera. Even if there's built-in storage on the camera, it won't help much because the thieves could simply disconnect and steal them too.

How soon? I don't see Apple releasing now phones less than once a year in the near future.

disconnections are and inherent problem with HomeKit secure video. it doesn't matter which camera you have. I have a Logitech circle 2 and 4 Eufy 2Cs and they all disconnect and reconnect at random...often at a time when you wish to have captured something...
I thought it was just our system. For example, the Eve camera disconnects and is completely unreliable until power cycled.

One thing Apple could do is make the cameras capable of streaming and saving spatial video.

With several cameras mounted, they'd be able to create a real-time 3D model of the area, rather than just show you a 2D view from a static position.

I struggle to imagine what kind of feature would entice me to get an Apple branded camera over any other HKSV capable camera. I’m sure they’d make something good, but better than the competition?

My Aqara cost me (what I assume will be) a fraction of the price and is very fully featured. I don’t see myself replacing it unless somebody made something better in all aspects.

My only real complaint, btw, is that the 2 way audio speaker is kind of quiet; and there isn’t an option to connect to Ethernet instead of WiFi.
Have logitech circles. I have to reset them regularly because they lose connection to HomeKit. All I want is a camera that works with HomeKit that will reliably perform its designed function. I've researched other HomeKit capable cameras, and they all seem to have issues.

I can’t say I have this issue with my Aqara G3. I’d complain endlessly if I did, that sounds horrible.

Does apple want to develop its own version of every existing product these days?!

Would it be so challenging to Apple to enable 2k or 4k video in HomeKit? Don't need an Apple camera, unless it can actually compete with eufy.
