As a developer/geek, I'll probably get half a day out of my oft-fiddled-with watch. But I'll just carry my phone charger battery and use it to charge up the watch. The watch charger cable seems to be a regular USB cable on the far end, I can plug it into the charger battery, my laptop or whatever, and it probably will take less than an hour to charge it - perhaps substantially less.

Carrying around a charger for a WATCH, what great future

Apple claimed the original iPhone would get up to 6 hours of Internet use.

Carrying around a charger for a PHONE, what a great future

The phone part lasted longer, and it is normally reported in talk time and standby time. Internet access in 2007 wasn't a prevalent. Anyhow it is different than a wearable that you would have to take off and can't even tell the time.

Weekends away

… One might as well say:

My casio easily lasts a decade. …

Now I'm curious. Four batteries on charge for my TV-430. I sometimes took it camping.

For me as long as the device can get through the day with light to moderate use I don't see what the issue is. Put it on the charger when I go to bed. …

I wonder whether the watch will be be the sort of thing that I would take away for a weekend.

Do you take your iPhone (if you have one) away for the weekend? If I am away overnight I take a cable with me to charge the phone/ipad - this will be one more cable to take.

Imagine your house is unexpectedly swallowed by a sinkhole and rescue crews will take 22 hours to get to you - - this Apple Watch is absolutely useless for everyone!

It really would depend on usage. If you don't get a lot of notifications or limit it to priority contacts only, then it is likely you should be able to go two days without recharging.

Lots of notifications or screen on time? Well clearly less.

I don't think that's a Lightning Cable. It's USB on one end and the round thing, unremovable from the cable on the other.

Nope i was right.

Nope i was right.

Nope, you weren't, sorry. That's an exception for the Edition watches. The Magnetic Charging Case connects to a powered USB port via the Lightning to USB cable and acts like a dock.

"The Apple Watch Edition box houses a magnetic charging pad and can be plugged in via a Lightning connector to charge the watch."

The Magnetic Charging Cable, which has USB on its other end, is included with all three Apple Watch models for usual charging.

Here's the contents of a non-Edition Apple Watch box.
