I say NO to this idea. I want to own my music. I want actual music files on my HDD. You own nothing if you subscribe to Apple Music, all you're paying for is access to the music, but you don't own anything. That's pure profit for Apple and the music artists.

I currently pay for Apple Music, but for me it's to listen to music I like but not enough to own and to hear new music from artists I've never heard before. The artist I REALLY like, I want to own their music so if I do decide to not subscribe, I still have the music.

This is about as much BS as removing the 3.5mm headphone jack.

lest we forget, streaming is also the worst option for artists in terms of compensation.

Apple execs are into Project Red, fashion shows, human rights, environment, "cars", watches - the rest of this stuff is just boring old ****. Fix iTunes and make it's UI the best in the world - nah .

I've always hated every single thing about iTunes and have stayed as far away from it as I possibly could.

I could care less what happens to it.
Spotify all the way where it comes to music.

There are two things that I don't like about this, especially if this includes killing iTunes Match.
I have a lot of concert recordings and other rarities in my collection that will probably never be available on streaming.
I also like having the ability to edit tracks, weather to key-shift them, shorten them or play with them in a hundred ways (and yes, all of this is legal).
So, Boo to apple if this is true. They're working hard to make me leave their ecosystem.

This is all because Apple was too lazy to design a good interface for Apple Music. That's the only reason people are confused.

Because a) not all of us want to be tied to paying a monthly fee just to access our music.

B) not all of us want to place our trust in a streaming service that may not be around in years to come.

You know Spotify is free right?

I don't see Spotify going away anytime soon.

If they do this, I'll go elsewhere.
1. I like to own my music.
2. I don't exactly have a good internet connection, so streaming is off the table.
Because to stream without it re-buffering so often, I have to dial the quality back to TERRIBLE sounding levels, if it's even possible to do so.

Pretty much the reason I don't use Spotify.

3. I am frequently offline when it comes to my music, and as such wouldn't be able to stream at all at those times. Local copies are pretty much mandatory for my usage needs.

I will pay .99 for a song (19.99 for a movie) if I can keep it on my device of choice and not burn through my data plan like a banshee...assuming I even have the bandwidth to stream worth a dang.
This isn't really about "streaming vs download", since you can do both whether you use Apple Music or buy your music through iTunes. It's about "subscription vs buying".

I think that (buffering buffering buffering) is a really good ( buffering buffering) idea and it's not like there are (buffering buffering) times when you have no wifi and must use ( buffering) cell ph(buffering)one data, which quickly eats into your data cap.

Streaming services can download files for offline play. You have zero point.

Yes (well free with ads and no offline music) and that is why I use Spotify for my music discovery and then when I like what I hear, it's off to the iTunes Store or the music store (for a physical CD). The only reason I used Apple Music for the trial period was because I could have my purchased music alongside streamable music, but for me is not worth paying a fee for that given how terribly designed Apple Music is and how much slower the streaming is than Spotify.

Add in : A) Streaming services often can't satisfy individual, listening preferences.

I like to OWN my music.
You don't own your music by paying a dollar for the license to listen to it on the device you paid. You own it exactly the same way by streaming/downloading it via Apple Music, it's just an obviously more cost effective, simpler option.

ITT a bunch of people living in the past.

So just because people don't being Shoehorned into a different way of music ownership (DIFFERENT is not equal to better) means they're living in the past?

How about everyone has different needs and wants with their music library, having options to stream and to purchase and download gives both options.

And most Americans traveling to a 3rd world country…. where wifi is unreliable or unavailable unless you book a 5-star hotel. Those vacationers are not going to have any music to listen to.

Why is Apple doing so many things to piss off its loyal customers lately?
Just as a reminder, they haven't actually done it. ;) It's just a rumor. While these things are certainly being discussed, I don't believe they have made any decision. If it happens, it will happen once the business is pretty much dead anyway and few people will care. If the current trend towards subscriptions doesn't continue and music purchases continue to generate significant business, they will obviously not kill it.

What the? In addition to the many listed reasons why that would suck I'd like to include the fact that although I use some mobile streaming around town I always use my downloaded purchased music out on the boat, driving to the beach through the mountain ranges, camping, and any other situation where I simply CAN'T stream music because I have little or no Internet (or a low battery). It's the whole reason I'll go to the iTunes store and purchase items.
