How about a doorbell or cameras that either works correctly or does not have specs from 2010? (Native/Not Homebridge)

Im not deep in the marked, but at the very least amazon has some stationary Alexa devices with a screen. Id assume google dos to but I honestly dont know. The thing is, your iPad with an Apple, or any other, case can already stand around perfectly fine to do whatever this thing would be capable to do.
The iPad is a personal device. From what this article says, it can recognize different voices. I take that to mean this device would be something more akin to a "family" type hub. "Show me the security camera in the garage". "What's little Tommy's soccer schedule this week?" "What's on our grocery list?" aka, show me anything on our "Family List" asked by mom, dad,or kid(s) etc etc etc. I think I would deff get this depending on price.

No one. Apple is throwing new product categories at the wall hoping they find another Apple Watch.
Too bad! I think this is what happens when the leadership team puts investors as the top priority. They have a hard time not participating in fads (smart ring, VR headset, smart home command centre, Apple Car, meh over the ear headphones, and probably a folding phone too, which ironically I'm actually a fan of at least in Z Fold form, and AI, which they actually seem to be doing a decent job at).

Looks potentially interesting. I could see using this for a bunch of tasks.

Of course it's a given it'll be panned here. Just like iPod, iPhone, iPad, Watch, AVP, etc. when they were released.
Lol. Ofc. It'll be panned here because this thing is a joke, a gross misuse of r&d money and manpower, and there is no use case for it that an iPad & a stand can't do already.

This makes no sense. I just can’t believe Apple will really do this.

Where would you put it? The kitchen? Great, then it’s a niche device for people who spend a lot of time cooking maybe, or want to video chat while cooking, who knows.

Or maybe it’s going to be the living room? If only there were already some kind of TV screen in your living room that’s pointed at the furniture, maybe with a device that you could plug into it to show HomeKit info, but also that you could stream shows, watch YouTube and play games on. And imagine if that device could wirelessly connect to a HomePod to handle Siri HomeKit requests…

… ah well, I guess nothing like that exists. I’ll have to buy the weird robotic arm thing to put on my coffee table in front of my TV, AppleTV, and stereo HomePods.

All sarcasm aside, if Apple just brought out a wireless webcam for the AppleTV they would already have the ultimate home automation hub device.

(Yes, I know you can do that silly thing where you use your iPhone as a webcam, but who can be bothered with that? Release a permanent dedicated webcam that I can leave permanently on top of my TV please!)

It was indeed revolutionary. And panned here pretty hard.

Steve Jobs introduced iPod on stage pulling it out of his pocket, holding it up, and saying, paraphrased, "Introducing iPod, giving you a thousand songs in your pocket."
The best response here (among many) was, 'Who asked for a thousand songs in your pocket?"

Just about every new Apple product is ridiculed here when introduced.

iPhone: No mechanical keyboard. It'll flop.
iPad: It's just a big iPhone.
Watch: I'll pull out my iPhone if I need to know the time.
And as many have pointed out here, the iPad was indeed "just a big iPhone" which is part of the reason for its massive success. Millions of people were already familliar with how to use it without having touched it.

What is happening. This company is so out of touch with reality on some of these new products they are launching. Was the $5k VR headset that no one kept not eye opening enough for you??? Who’s buying a $1000 echo show branded apple with garbage Siri? I’ll tell you, the 3000 Apple fanboys who buy anything Apple, the rest of us will stick with fair priced products.

I am going to go out on a limb and suggest that this article represents the first time in the history of the world that anyone has ever said the words “leverage Siri.”

I will admit that I am not the brightest bulb in the knife drawer, but what is the purpose of this device?

Why would I buy this instead of using my iPhone, iPad, HomePod or even my Mac? I'm not sure what the appeal of the product is.

Can we please just get a new iPhone Mini and iPad Mini?

How about making things that real actual customers are currently asking for?
There's definitely demand for the iPad Mini. Sadly not enough people got the iPhone Mini, so not enough demand for Apple to make more of those.

Why can't we get something useful such as photo editing that Google and Samsung have? Nobody asked for a table robot for $1000.

And "nobody asked for a thousand songs in your pocket." But, the people on Mac tech forums who said those words (mocking Steve Jobs' introduction of iPod years ago) I suspect probably purchased a few.

It might be best to wait and see what Apple comes up with.

Regarding photo editing... The Photos app on all iPhones and iPads does an excellent job for the casual user.

For those who are serious about photography and want to edit on a display many times larger than a mobile phone, Lightroom does an outstanding job. Apple lost that battle years ago with Aperture not competing very well against Lightroom.

Spot on and no doubt offering much much more. Nice seeing someone who's not afraid to exercise their imagination.

iPad on a stand with moving arm? intriguing at least. could become a useful desktop assistant. a second dedicated monitor.

I believe we have entered the era in which Apple is rapidly running out of areas to grow their business. The Vision Pro has not been a success and the car project is cancelled. So we are about to see a raft of new products that are essentially rehashes of iOS in new and weird form factors. Feels reminiscent of Apple in the late 80s when they began to lose their way and had trouble innovating. Expect weird products with displays like this thing, extra displays on existing product lines like a foldable iPhone that start at $1999, displays on HomePods, and weird dual-screen MacBooks that start at $2999. I also think we will also start seeing cameras added to products that don't currently have cameras. It will be all about how many displays and cameras are all around us. And everything will be unnecessarily thin.
