Ipad on a swivel, nobody is going to buy it.

They need to focus on something futuristic, like when you watch a movie 15-20 years prior in science fiction and then it becomes reality. The only thing that remotely comes close is self driving vehicles, flying vehicles, or touchable projectable holograms.

How about making a version of the Music app that is not clumsy to use?

.Yes great, but it will end up costing a lot of money, Apple is hungry to sell new products in order to sustain.
I think with a device like that, it must be able to be movable and hang on the wall. I can see it in a household of 5, mom, dad, two daughters and a son, they all want to use it.
Just look at what Bang & Olufsen has done with their 'mobile' wall/table speaker (Beosound Level). Meant to be carried and placed in different rooms, where it will click into place on magnetic wall-mounted or table-top stands. They have pretty fabrics and metal or wood (or both) finishes and are upgradeable(!!!) so that when standards improve you don't need to chuck the whole device into the ever-growing gyre of unwanted e-waste which will someday encircle the entire planet multiple times (based on our current use of plastics).
It's very pretty, and very expensive. But the concept is beautiful. Of course, there's no screen, it's a sound device only.

So this is basically a neutered computer? For $1000? Don’t make me laugh.

solution in search of a problem much? In case there was any doubt Apple is fresh out of ideas here you go.

I bought a tripod for my ipad on amazon that rotates 360 for my bed stand just like this one in this picture. Cost $20-30 max lol. Apple greedy as usual.

Looks potentially interesting. I could see using this for a bunch of tasks.

Of course it's a given it'll be panned here. Just like iPod, iPhone, iPad, Watch, AVP, etc. when they were released.
ALL of those devices were excellent - and while there certainly were complaints about the iPad (I still laugh thinking about some of the names people came up with) and it's utility, few (reasonable) people could truly claim that it wasn't an innovation in tablets. Remember, Microsoft tried to produce a desirable tablet back in the 90s. Not only was it a clunker, but well, there was little good to say about those tablets. And that effectively killed any would-be tablet makers for 15 years, until we got the iPad. Which, again, for all of its shortcomings is still a great little light-weight mobile computer. For some workflows, it's all the computer a person needs - and for under $300 (base model) - and still with a high-quality implementation and manufacturing to strict standards.

The iPod — I wasn't reading these forums back when that first launched in 1998 or so (I think that was the year), but that was revolutionary. I can't imagine that people thought that would fail! But I'm sure there were some.

AVP - is the best implementation we have yet seen in IR/AR headsets that don't cost $20K. Obviously...this first iteration will look like something out of the stone-age in 3-5 years, depending upon how much focus Apple keeps on making this palatable to the mass market, or even just the 10-15% who would spend the money and use the device. I think it's impressive, but I will definitely wait for both a lighter and longer-battery-life model, with hopeful more visual improvement. I did try it out in a 30-minute session and while I was impressed with the realism, sound quality, visual quality, and detail, not to mention the three-dimensionality of video and static images optimized for the platform, I just don't see myself using it very much until there are improvements or until I could use this instead of a desktop computer.

This purported device - ipad/HomePod combo-creature...I could see it being something interesting if it is done right (design, software, functionality, and actual usefulness). Personally, if it will be based on Siri, I have very low hopes for any such device other than streaming music and video. But I would not want that device.

I think this is one of those things where apple uses Gurman to put something out there to see how people react ...

It was indeed revolutionary. And panned here pretty hard.

Steve Jobs introduced iPod on stage pulling it out of his pocket, holding it up, and saying, paraphrased, "Introducing iPod, giving you a thousand songs in your pocket."
The best response here (among many) was, 'Who asked for a thousand songs in your pocket?"

Just about every new Apple product is ridiculed here when introduced.

iPhone: No mechanical keyboard. It'll flop.
iPad: It's just a big iPhone.
Watch: I'll pull out my iPhone if I need to know the time.

This will be an absolute failure, why don’t they just make actual smart appliances instead of overpriced gimmicks. Make a smart thermostat, they have screens, are connected to power and are located in hallways. So many other things too.

According to Gurman the mini and Plus iPhones were “commercial failures”, yet, granted it’s MR, people here are asking for a new mini … fast forward to this “robotic table top “thing””, how can this be commercially successful? Are people asking for this?
Yes, I get it, some will like it but why would the average consumer spend yet another $1000 for something and iPhone/ipad can do?
A commercial failure for Apple. Any other phone manufacturer would love to have the sales volume of those products. But I suspect Apple never got the margins it wanted for those products.

in this case, the old pixar iMac was iconic. So this rumoured product sounds like a homage, but the robotic arm makes me think it might really be like the old ads for those machines. Creepy in practice.

Why can't we get something useful such as photo editing that Google and Samsung have? Nobody asked for a table robot for $1000.
