Apple is aiming to ship a combined total of 80 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units by the end of this year, reports Digitimes. To achieve this goal, the company has reportedly asked its supply chain partners to ramp up component production. Barring any production issues, Apple is aiming for 10 million units by the end of September with another 70 million units by the end of the fourth quarter.

The news follows a report from the Wall Street Journal report in July, which stated that Apple was preparing to manufacture a massive number of iPhone 6 units in anticipation of high demand. Apple was said to have produced a total of 60 million units for the iPhone 5 in the later half of 2012. Last year, Apple experienced significantly constrained supplies with the iPhone 5s, as supplies were not steady until nearly three months after its launch.

Rumors prior to the announcement of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus yesterday stated that Apple was experiencing major production issues with the larger model, which was said to be the reason behind a potentially delayed launch. However, with both iPhone 6 models up for pre-order on September 12 and available for purchase on September 19, it is possible that Apple has a steady supply to answer high consumer demand.

Judging by peoples comments, this could be either "the mother of all upgrades" or "the mother of all fu**ups"

I was gonna wait... but T-Mobile's willing to pay my ETF and give me unlimited data with no throttling and tethering... More and more tempted to pre-order. Hopefully the supplies isn't going to be too bad

that thing reachability it could be the next big thing for all the big smartphone..
it is very nice and useful for smartphones with screens larger than 4.5"
i am sure that android will make something like this aswell

hmmm

That plus 15 million iPhone 5s and c, plus 35 million (40?) iPads (there's an october event, right?) and 10 million Macs...

Sounds like maybe, just maybe, Apple might survive until the end of the year, before closing doors in January.

Cool. But if they could ship just ONE to Denmark right now, I'd be more than happy.

Take it easy, 1.3 billion people in the whole mainland China is not getting it and people there are mad with Apple for allowing Hong Kong to be on the launch countries list :D

Edit: sorry for the typo :)

I expect a ratio of something like 80:20 in favour of the 4.7" model. I doubt Apple will release a breakdown of each model's sales (As they didn't with 5S/5C) but I still think the 4.7" alone will be the best selling smartphone of all time.

If I was on an iPhone 4s, I'd upgrade, but I'm on an iPhone 5 and it honestly still runs so fast and is so light and good looking, that it feels very modern and all around a great phone. Not even considering an upgrade to the iPhone 6 which had minimal changes over the 5s besides the display size, a change I'm not even sure I want.

Apple is so boss! I cannot wait until next Friday to meet some awesome people.

With you here, I have the 5S and have no intention of moving. I'm a "tock" upgrader generally anyway. The 6 is not a pretty phone....

80 Million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Units By End of 2014

That should make up for Apple's two hours of live-streaming problems that Samsung so graciously pointed out.

Maybe Samsung should really get into the game and sell 80 million Galaxy Note 4 by the end of the year.

That shouldn't be too difficult... right? :D

I really hope this time, they will have enough supplie, last time i ordered the iPhone 5, i ordered it 1 hour after preorders started and i waited till end of October to get mine. I'm not going to make this mistake twice ! Does somebody here knows precisely at what time the preorders start ?
(sorry for my english)

If apple is trying to ship 80 million by the end of the year.. And 10 million by the end of this month..
Looks like the iphone 6 will be hard to come by. I don't see how 10 million iphones is enough for this month. Once you start breaking them down by screen size, capacity, and color.. It's just not going to be enough

Not sure that second sentence was necessary. I mean, you can't have one without the other. It's like saying: 'we need more apples. So we're getting more apples'.

Some Android manufacturers (Samsung, LG) already have similar features

Or even just a presentation that didn't make me feel queasy.

I tried to watch a Samsung keynote last year. Had to switch it off after 2 minutes because it was like an episode of Glee, and I can't stand Glee.

I say they are doomed. :'(

Apple is definitely the leader when it comes to product launches. Announcement to shipping within 10 days is damn impressive, anyone else in business can learn a thing or two from Apple's launches.

Nope. The 6plus will sell more!

Go big or go home!

And once you consider that roughly 1 million of them will end up as store displays.
