So basically if you don’t use Arcade and/or play games on Apple TV, the storage upgrades are pointless?

Honestly, Apple should just make:
  • Apple TV (current 4K model with 32gb storage) $129
  • Apple TV Arcade (256gb storage + a controller) $249

Nice idea, I like it. Hope they come up with a good controller and force feedback soon.

Considering Xbox One S All-Digital Edition retails at $249, which includes gaming controller and few games, and is routinely discounted to around $170 by various retailers, Apple will be ridiculed at $249 price point.

$199 is the max Apple can realistically charge.

Activating reality distortion field!

Distorted how?

Apple has been ridiculed for selling Apple TV 4K at vastly higher price tag than its competitors. Pricing its successor at even higher price isn't going to play well.

Sir Jony is out the door. First change the locks. Next, change the remote. Unless you're looking at it, you can't even tell which way it's pointed. You have to lay it on the chair arm so it doesn't wriggle when you're try to use that silly built-in trackpad. The thing violates every UX guideline ever. A few dedicated buttons, a sensible shape and size. Did I mention not to let Jony Ive back in the building? There are dozens of decent TV and DVR remotes in the world. This isn't one of them.

Interesting thoughts, do you think this would be a mainstream market - people working on their TV sets?
I already use my 2018 Mac mini connected to a 50" 4K TV.

The Mac mini could be partially replaced by a cheaper Apple TV Pro (with 128GB to 2TB of storage options, 6GB of RAM, USB port for external hard drive), if it had iPadOS (with mouse/trackpad support) instead of tvOS.

It could cost half the price of an iPad Pro with same internals.

It would be used not only for working, but for watching videos/films, playing games etc.

As an Apple Arcade user I have to delete some games in order to play other ones. Apple Arcade and IPTV recordings are two strong reasons for larger capacities. I wish for 256GB...

Well wouldn't it be better to add a SD card slot to the Apple TV then? You can get 200GB SD cards for 25 Euros. Or even a USB port for an external drive?

Same thoughts here but after hearing that the new magic keyboard for iPad Pro doesn’t have any shortcut keys I’m not too optimistic on a remote redesign either. Finger crossed of course!

Please, iPad Air 64GB upgraded to 128GB too!

I hope that in the future the tvOS gets an adapted version of iPadOS's mouse support and becomes an "iPadOS with no touch screen", meaning that the tvOS will have Files, Safari, Microsoft Office etc.
Serious question - I agree with you that Safari would be nice to see on ATV but what do you need Files and Microsoft Office for? Are you using a TV on a desk where ATV would basically act like a "mini Mac mini" or would you still use it in a living room where the screen is several feet away?

I just think an Apple TV Pro with "tvOS merged with iPadOS" would be able to replace a Mac mini for most people.

Which is a better choice for a kid at basically any price point honestly.

But...Apple could push hard on the synergies of “buy once, play everywhere” also

A Switch is definitely a cool system, I wish I could spend more time playing, but when I do it’s really nice.

Haven’t tried Apple’s Arcade but for many that might be an interesting add-on.

This is a great idea actually.

Just to expand on your post. The regular ATV 4K can include the A12 processor while the ATV Arcade can include the A12Z processor.

It’s be cool if the model with 128GB would let you download some stuff from the TV app like movies, or some music. Offline playback of select stuff would make it pretty cool, more than just a streaming box.

what i want is the ability to add a webcam to it so we can do video calls or even Zoom in our living room

That is a great call! How are they not making a Bluetooth modern “iSight” camera you could move around and ”dock & charge” by the TV (or anywhere).

So, Apple likes to say the A12X in the iPad Pro was as powerful as the Xbox One S, so it would make sense to come out with an Apple TV with the A12X(or A12Z now) chip, 6GB of RAM and a 128GB(or larger) SSD, then work with developers to get some AAA games ported.
I'd love to see full console or desktop-quality ARK: Survival Evolved, No Mans Sky, and Subnautica ported to Apple TV. While we're at it, Cities: Skylines is also something I'd like to see.

Interesting idea. This is where market research and technology roadmaps really influence product / customer segmentation. My first thought is that ATV is (currently) designed to plug into a TV and mainly function as a streaming box so there is no need to download movies because a reliable, reasonable speed Internet connection is assumed. However, as suggested in this thread, there are numerous things Apple could add ATV including Safari, ability to add a camera for video calls on your TV, better supported offline playback, etc. Apple is famous for "saying no to 1,000 good ideas" in order to stay focused on a simple and intuitive user experience. I am really looking forward to seeing where ATV goes over the next couple of years.

4K YouTube support or gtfo. I like my unit, but since I use a lot of youtube I have it connected to my old 1080p tv rather than my 4K one.
