I've been an Apple user for 38 years, but my latest 2015 27" iMac died. Ugly death. I'm stuck and struggling using an older 2010 27" iMac. Waiting for a new one to be released.

Started with a 128K 9" Mac and worked through 12 Macs since then. I figure I've invested over $25K in Apple computers. I retired in 2011 and my Mac purchases slowed down.

Waiting for an M1, M2 or M3 27" iMac. Ideally it would have a 1 gig drive and 16GB memory for less than $2,500. Apple can't be stupid enough only to release a $5,000 iMac pro. If the 2010 iMac dies, and Apple doesn't release an affordable 27" iMac soon I'm not sure what I'll do - probably go cheap and move on.
I think the days of affordable 27”+ iMacs are over.. iMac Pro was $5k. You can get a minimum config Mac Studio resold on eBay for about $1300. And then add any monitor in the world. The brand new 27” Sony InZone M9 is amazing for example. That’s about $2000 for a system that will probably outperform (because of cooling) the $5k 27” iMac Pro when Apple does finally get around to releasing it.

Apple is still great of knowing better what we need, than ourselves at times.

Unfortunately, they sometimes forget people's wallets.

What Apple seems to be doing and what I've seen a LOT in comments over the past months is that everyone seems to forget that there were TWO very different 27" iMacs.

27" iMac
27" iMac Pro.

They do not and never have targeted the same demographic.

People who did or would get an iMac Pro are sufficiently targeted by the Mac Studio + ASD.

But there's also those people who want/need more screen real estate than the 24" iMac and want/need more power than a Mac Mini - but not as much as a Mac Studio. Nor would they be able to afford a Mac Studio. We're literally talking at least a grant difference.

The 'normal' 27" iMac has been widely used in the edu and science sectors, for example

I'm not going smaller than 27" for my desktop mac. Not going to happen. I need more power than a mini can offer. I do not need as much power as the Studio - and I simply would not be able to afford a Studio. I'd never get a Studio.

The Studio + ASD might be an attempt by Apple to upsell, but right now, they're not getting *any* money from me nor will anytime soon.

Different demographics. Point blank. And currently there is a vaccum.

I'm probably in the minority, but I wanted a 32" iMac. 😔
No, I'd love a 32-incher. I've steadily increased monitor size with each upgrade. Started in 1989 with a Mac IIx and a 12- or 13-inch monitor, I forget which. I'm a book designer, so I've always been mindful of the need to view two-page spreads on-screen I went to a 17-inch monitor in the 1990s, and then a 23-inch Apple Cinema Display. My last two computers have been a 24-inch iMac and now the late 2015 Retina 5K 27-inch iMac. The 23-inch Cinema Display has been my second monitor with these last two machines. I'd like a 30- or 32-inch iMac. I may have to settle for an Apple Studio and the 27-inch Studio Display, as the 32-inch Pro Display CD-R is just too spendy.
