Apple's software engineers recently began testing iOS 27.4, according to the MacRumors visitor logs.

Fun fact: Apple tests the "fall" (iOS 27.0) and "spring" (iOS 27.4) software releases concurrently.

OS 27.4 is the purest version is OS 27 that Apple has ever developed. It truly is the OS for ultra pros. Apple can’t wait to see the incredible things customers are able to do with it. Apple thinks you’re gonna love it. Stay tuned!

But seriously, we can now see how far in advance Apple locks-in even their software. Apple has mastered the art of more evolutionary than revolutionary to keep the shine on the Apple fresh.

Of course.

This is always the way it goes in engineering. There are some people working on fixes to the current release, others working on stuff that will make the next release, and yet others working on stuff with a much longer timeline. It is management’s job to make sense of this chaos and assign people and target dates to different tasks. But you are always working on both some long-term and shorter-term projects. I’m sure some are working on "28" already.

And some might be on what
Of course.

coming in next decade

Interesting, hopefully it doesn't mean that 27.0 is going to be an alpha release like last year with 26.0. Things are looking good in the current developer beta of 27 so here's hoping Apple delivers!

👴🏻 I remember when Apple couldn't even develop iPhone OS and Mac OS at the same time

Uh what? They absolutely did. Just because there's staggered release schedules doesn't mean they weren't codeveloped. It's not the same people working on both platforms.

If Apple knows what is going in the .4 now and is testing it...why not put all that stuff in the initial release? (I know there will be a reason, I just cant see what it is)
