Siri AI is already being tested and performs pretty well, what else could they need? Siri AI: The Sequel perhaps?
I wonder if there could be any new kind of hardware Apple plans to release later on but doesn’t want people to find (all) the code for, hmmmmm. Let me think reallll hard.
But then again, the timing doesn’t make too much sense. Maybe it’s for the base 18 and 18e.

👴🏻 I remember when Apple couldn't even develop iPhone OS and Mac OS at the same time

Uh what? They absolutely did. Just because there's staggered release schedules doesn't mean they weren't codeveloped. It's not the same people working on both platforms.
Clearly, your memory is failing you.
There were two delays for macOS X leopard, and Apple directly blamed iPhone development in their statement.

“iPhone contains the most sophisticated software ever shipped on a mobile device, and finishing it on time has not come without a price -- we had to borrow some key software engineering and QA resources from our Mac OS X team, and as a result we will not be able to release Leopard at our Worldwide Developers Conference in early June as planned.”

My speculation is also that the entire reason that “Snow Leopard” was ever a thing, was because iPhone software development had to move so quickly in those early days between versions 1.0 and iOS 4, that most of the people there who would have pushed for a big step right from Leopard to Lion were too busy Bringing cut copy and paste, multitasking and hundreds of other things to the iPhone.

iOS 4 was also delayed for the iPad, The iPhone got it on June 21, 2010, The iPad not until November 22.

I say this with love… but MacRumors really needs to stop with the
“[current OS release number]+1 is coming” articles.

“EXCLUSIVE: Water is wet & the sun will rise tomorrow!” Only on MacRumors!
The more articles generated, the more clicks. More clicks mean more ad revenue.

Sorry to say this, but MacRumors started going downhill as soon as every article became “Mark Gurman says or claims” only for ad money.

My memory isn't failing me at all, you clearly don't understand how software development works.

Your quote doesn't even mean what you think it means.

A. You're pointing out ONE specific instance and

B. It doesn't prove your point. Notice the wording "we had to borrow SOME key software engineering and QA resources".

It doesn't mean development stopped, it just means some resources got shuffled, which is typical for software development and, I cannot stress this enough again, that is ONE specific instance.

You would think each iOS dot iteration builds up upon the previous version and fixes but that’s just an illusion. 😵

Yeah, that hasn't been true for many years now (sadly).

They seem to have split teams that work on upcoming point releases simultaneously while another is working on a more major mid-cycle point release that is more feature laden.

I really wish they'd work back towards "new features actually come out in September"

Where did all of our imaginations go? The sewers.

Get ready for the high powered 9mm iPhone Pro/Pro Max coming soon and we are also releasing the watered down .22 models iPhone 18 & iPhone 18e next spring!

Dude, they literally said that they couldn’t release it in time because of the iPhone. It’s exactly what you said they didn’t do.
You can move those goalposts around as much as you’d like, it doesn’t change the point that at one time, Apple software development resources were spread so thin that they could not release a new version of OS X and iPhoneOS at the same time.
Apple’s entire software teams were completely re-architected in early 2011, which is why, after 2011, there was a yearly version of macOS and a yearly version of iOS.
This was not the case before 2011.

Siri AI didn't work for me on my 16 pro max beta 1 kept say "oh there's been a problem" I reset the phone & it worked. However when beta 2 was released it was the same. Im not going to reset it every time a new reales comes out so im waiting for beta 3. It does work in my MacBook Air however

It is a beta, after all. It isn't the official release, so some things won't work. You can't go on an unofficial version and just expect everything to work. You might as well wait for the official release.

Theres a year cycle development planning.

Product name:
iOS

Project name:
Rave (iOS 27)

Release branches:
27.0.0 (september)
27.1.0 (november)
27.2.0 (december)

The focus is the version 27.0.0 but team keep working on other minor versions with new features, improvements and fix.
