<<This firmware is specifically for the new iPhone 3G S (iPhone2,1) so is not recommended to be installed on older iPhones.>>
So does this imply that you shouldn't put 3.0 on the 2G? I was planning on leaving my 2G firmware as is on my 8 gig 2G anyway--it will be fun to compare the new features on the new phone to the old version--but I can't help but think 3.0 might be a little sluggish on a 4gig 2G?
No. Apple is making the 3.0 OS available for all iPhone models and iPod Touch models (later for a minor upgrade fee) that they have manufactured to date.<<This firmware is specifically for the new iPhone 3G S (iPhone2,1) so is not recommended to be installed on older iPhones.>>

has anyone tried putting the 3G S firmware on their 3G?
So if this is correct and iPhone 3G S is iPhone2,1.... then what is iPhone3,1 in the OS 3.0 SDK ?
Later this summer, as part of the 3.0 software, AT&T will make multimedia messaging (MMS) available at no extra cost to customers with a text messaging bundle. And, in the future, AT&T will offer tethering capability for iPhone 3G S and iPhone 3G.
Has anyone else noticed that inside the camera app the 'view photos' button is just a grayish square? The button works, but it's not what it's supposed to look like.
Had 3.0 GM on my iPhone 3G since Friday, MMS via Optus seems to work, the OS is still buggy, slowdown, unresponsive buttons, wierd freezes (Safari, had to force restart) and weird crashes (3rd party apps - Darkroom for example), transition into search screen isn't all that smooth.
I also tested Find my iPhone, it sort of works in Sydney, the message I tested took almost an hour to get to the phone, when I tried to find it on the map, it showed up the last place I lived - from 3 months ago! How could that be? It did eventually work but Mobile Me seems not very acurate in that it says the phone is "Offline" when it's next to me and not turned off, strange! Also while it said "offline" (the light under the phone becomes greyed out, same as MacRumors' forum lights) then you can't make it look for the phone, I wonder WHEN does it become "offline"? And say if the thief switches the phone off, will it be offline or what? need more clarification.
I hope later this week when they release the final version will have all these issues resolved. Also be aware to activate Find My iPhone you HAVE to activate Mobile Me's email account and turn Push Notification on you iPhone, for me that has a large data plan it's okay, but if you only have a puny 500MB plan then I'd becareful if you don't wish to go over and having another email account on my phone (I have 3 already) can be a bit of pain, back and forth, know what I mean?
Anyone else had similar experience?
Thanks for that, I've just tested again, same thing in the beginning, it defaults to where I used to live 3 months ago, while it says "refining searches, this may take up to 3 minutes" it took 2-3 minutes to finally located it, so i think it maybe (wireless) network related? or provider related? This is Australia after all, 20million people on an island the size of US and 3 carriers all sell iPhones, so they don't need try very hard 😉

The iPhone 3.0 re-download charging message has been removed and was a bug according to AppAdvice. Re-downloading apps in 3.0 should be the same as the current firmware ( which means free).
... so for original iPhone owners who still pay $20 which includes 200 text with no extra text package are we going to get bent over and have to pay for each MMS?
For those who installed 3.0 already, did you guys try that feature with a bluetooth headset? If so, how did it work out for you? And what was the make/model of the headset?
Of all the features I'm waiting on, stereo bluetooth is the big thing for me!
Nope, I think you misread. If you update your phone to 3.0, it can now handle MMS and will be billed as a text message. Since your plan includes 200 texts, I would think you would have this as well. 🙂
The rest of us have to pay extra for a text plan. 😛
Wherever you've got data; you've got push. 🙂
I'm not so sure about that. I heard the MMS is only available on the 3G/S. Supposedly, the radio in 1st Gen doesn't support it. Can anyone confirm with the GM firmware on an original iPhone that they have the option to send MMS?

...I'd honestly recommend possibly restoring on Wednesday (or now, don't matter) and not restoring from backup. That should probably fix a lot of your issues. If it doesn't you may want to take your iPhone to a local Apple store.
It is not fully working for me in my car (although I don't know if maybe my car bluetooth system will support it or not?) I can't get music to play at all but my voicemail's which used to only play through the iPhone or iPhone speakerphone now do play through the stereo which is nice. For those who installed 3.0 already, did you guys try that feature with a bluetooth headset?
