With the Find My iPhone/Wipe feature, they should have put in an option to lock the phone with a passcode remotely. Just set the passcode on the phone, then if it gets lost, lock it and send a message/find it. I know lots of people don't use the lock feature for convenience.

Blaming somebody else because you find security features to be "inconvenient" is not really solving much.

Has anyone found on the Apple Servers the released 3.0 for the 3G? It's not posted ahead of schedule, is it?

Nevermind......I found my answer.

You don't say .. .

:D

AT&T considers the MMS to be text even though it travels over the data connection. That way they don't require normal phone that can get MMS to have data plans. Of course that screws with those that do have data plans...

Did that. It's set to on. Still the "No Devices Registered" on my MobileMe homepage. Location Services still on. Nothin'.

"Find my iPhone" is not about "location services" being on. You need to do this:

Settings --> Mail, Contacts, Calendars --> Your Me.com Account --> Scroll down until you see "Find my iPhone" on/off switch.

Sorry, I wasn't clear...

I *did* turn that switch on. And when I don't have Location Services turned on, and I go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars and my MM account, the Find My iPhone option is grayed out.

So just now I triple-checked to be sure everything was turned on; Location Services on, Find My iPhone on, and I submit the following:

Thanks for your help on this. Yes, I can wait until the 17th and do it "legitimately," so not a big deal...am just baffled as to why it's not functioning.

Okies, not sure now... LOL Just wanted to make sure that you had that switch on, it's a bit confusing how to turn on "Find my iPhone." I hope that Apple streamlines that in the future.

I think your original assumption is probably correct that it was turned on briefly for devs, but now that there are a lot of non-devs using iPhone 3.0, Apple probably shut that service down. Maybe. In any case, you won't have to wait long to find out, so I wouldn't worry about it right now (unless you're plannin' on losing your iPhone anytime soon!) :p

I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure you will see get the 200 text messages which will include MMS when they start offering with the included data plan.

The 200 SMS / MMS text package with AT&T is $ 5.00 per month. You can get 1500 for $15.00, and unlimited for $20.00. At least thats what AT&T's site says. If you don't have a bundle, you pay per message (rates on ATT.com).

Here's the pricing for voice / data and texting from ATT

You probably don't have push turned on. Go to http://www.apple.com/mobileme/whats-new/ and click on the QuickTour link to see a video about enabling and using the Find My iPhone feature.

Thank you...that was the missing piece, having Push turned ON.

It works...but, gotta say...

I will rarely, if EVER, use this. Talk about a battery drain!

--Location Services ON
--MobileMe setting ON
--3G data signal ON
--Push ON

Wow.

Great feature, but may only use it when I know I'll have a rechargeable power source nearby.

Push (and Mobile Me) don't use that much power, and Location Services doesn't except at the times you're using it.

working !!!

got my iphone working with the new 3.0 software.. sweet !!!!!!!!! wait i thought this was gonna have video record...?

That makes some amount of sense . . . for people who don't have data plans.

Of course, I guess it make sense also because it allows AT&T to charge even more for service.

What time do you think I should go wait in line?

With AT&T being at limited stock and us not knowing how many Apple will have. Does anyone have suggestions on a good time to camp out in line?

Also, I need to buy 2 phone for the wife and I (selling the current 3G), will they let me buy two for the $399 price (price the Apple/AT&T quoted me)? I thought heard at the AT&T store they were limiting it to one per household, does this apply to the Apple Store?

Thank in advance for any advice.

Just go to apple.com/store and order. When you get the choice to pick up at an apple store or have shipped, choose to have shipped. They're currently still delivering on Friday if purchased today (I did it this morning.)

I suggest getting in line this evening. I heard by morning tomorrow, they expect 100s to be in line already...
