Executives from Apple and other tech companies will meet Trump administration officials on Wednesday to discuss co-ordination efforts and information sharing to help tackle the coronavirus outbreak, reports Fox Business.

tim-cook-trump.jpg
Tech executives will reportedly attend the White House meeting either in person or via video conference.

As the coronavirus spreads, there's been an upsurge of users spreading conspiracy theories on social media and attempts to boost fraudulent "treatments" for the disease. One of the topics of discussion is expected to include finding effective ways to fight coronavirus-related misinformation being spread online.

It's also expected that remote working options for employees will be discussed. Google on Tuesday issued one of the most sweeping cautionary measures by tech companies so far, recommending that all its employees in North America work from home until at least April 10 amid the viral outbreak.

Meanwhile, Apple has reportedly encouraged its employees in Cupertino and many other locations to work from home this week if possible. Another report this week claimed that Apple has offered its retail employees and some other hourly workers unlimited sick leave if they experience COVID-19 symptoms, with no doctor's note required.

As of Wednesday, there are 119,357 global cases of the coronavirus with over 1,000 in the U.S. On a global basis there have been 4,290 fatalities as tracked by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

When did pharmacist become real workers and programmer become fake workers?
is it because pharmacists get to stand a foot higher than us?

Wow you’re sensitive, real as real danger of contacting the virus. Obviously programmers have much less risk, especially if they can work from home. No one seems to care about the people who are in the line of fire.

But you programmers will soon enough.

I’m not a programmer. I do care about those people. But “real worker” implies that people who program don’t do real work. If the point was simply to say “people who aren‘t on the front lines” then it was a sloppy, judgmental way of saying it.

Why does this not have a PRSI tag?
Well, it's not very political in nature aside maybe from this little excerpt:
As the coronavirus spreads, there's been an upsurge of users spreading conspiracy theories on social media and attempts to boost fraudulent "treatments" for the disease. One of the topics of discussion is expected to include finding effective ways to fight coronavirus-related misinformation being spread online.
Otherwise, publishing a story that simply involves meeting with the president isn't inherently political if it's about something non-controversial like this.

Wide spread exposure may be inevitable, maybe not, but delaying is very much the goal. Because that means the medical system won’t be overwhelmed, and when some people do get significantly ill they will have a better chance at recovery. It’s called flattening the curve and it is very very much what we want to happen for everyone’s sake.
Indeed, a vaccine may be a long time coming, but COVID19 tests are something that's available but in ridiculously short supply - if everyone was considered exposed right now, they'd all have to stay home because no tests available, but if we can significantly delay the chance of exposure until tests are plentiful, there'll be less forced isolation.

Great so programmers can work from home, yet the real workers the ones in the line of fire, health care, doctors, pharmacies like CVS etc. all these people cannot work from home.

Yet the ones I'm concerned about, and will be key in spreading this infection, are food service and hospitality workers who are working multiple jobs (many are) and if they don't work, they starve, and are homeless.

One person, sick and forced to work that shows up to work for a week (until the people that eat their preparations and work with them become symptomatic) can spread the virus to hundreds and thousands of people, who will spread that to hundreds and possible more thousands of people, and pretty soon, you have a 'supercluster' of infections that can crescendo out of control.

AND I'll note, America CONTINUES to import food, food ingredients, and drugs from China, and other countries with high infection rates.

It's the 'working poor', and immigrant detention 'infection sinks' (being deliberately denied healthcare), that will spread this like wildfire, and America could end up having the largest infection rates of any nation on the planet. *Could* It all depends on what the people who are in charge do. (It's not looking good) Giving money to the oil and transportation industry, and token tax cuts to 'workers' aren't going to touch the problem, and totally ignore people that work on commissions alone. They don't work, and/or they don't sell things, they don't eat.

I'm a rolling stone.
snip...And Italy's death rate is over 6%, bucking the idea that the worldwide death rate is 2%, or less. And the plague killed up to an estimated 200 million people. Playing with, and eating, wild animals is not going to end well.

There's a reason why it's higher in Italy, what about (Northern)villages deserted by youngsters so vulnerable old people get it far more than younger ones.
There's other reasons too, for instance, healthcare not up for the job or being too relaxed when it started.
Here it's less than 1%.

As for the topic, would be better to do video conferencing.

Here it’s too soon to tell. But northern italy actually has the best health care in italy, as it turns out.

The World Health Organization just this morning announced that COVID-19 is now officially classified as a pandemic. And is now in at least 114 countries, causing more than 4,000 deaths.

My comment earlier:

The high death rate in Italy is apparently due to the lack of intensive care options there. Plus, potentially, an older population.

I can only imagine when this hits Hawaii. Healthcare is an issue there. (There is no trauma center on the big island, which I found amazing. I was there in 2011. Hopefully that has changed)

When did pharmacist become real workers and programmer become fake workers?

Pharmacists: require a special education, licensure, and hold professional liability.
Electrical engineers: require a special education, licensure, and hold professional liability in some cases.
Software "engineers": none of the above.

Per JohnsHopkins COVID-19 dashboard:
World death rate as of this afternoon 3.6% (121,977 cases 4386 deaths)
US death rate 2.8% (1109 cases, 31 deaths)

These would all be preliminary numbers, but the projected 3.5% rate might prove pretty close after all is said and done.

I hope you meant “meet Trump” and not “meat Trump.”

Does anyone proof read anymore?

That is the same rate as the 1919 Influenza pandemic.

I've been saying this from day one. It's not looking good, everyone. I have many friends in China and this thing is a real beast. Thankfully things are actually getting back to normal there. We've still got a ways to go. The problem is that we don't have confident handle on the issue.

I would have normally traveled at least two or three times overseas by now. Thus far, none. We've been having lots of vide conferences. They do come with one major benefit. I only have to dress from the waist up for the meeting. ? ? ?

...there is a time difference, so sue me!
