It will never happen because Samsung will not change the way it operates. As shown in the Vanity Fair article awhile back, Samsung has large ethical issues with most of it's competitors (not just Apple). Samsung copies / steals, litigates, then stalls. It's how Samsung operates and, as much as I would also like to see Apple and Samsung work together, I think it's just Samsung stalling for more time.

Yes, and the world has flying pigs. Please read about Samsung's business practices. There was a nice article about them earlier here.

Count me also in the camp of skeptics, gravely doubting that Samsung is going to change their business ethics. It is however a nice thought. Imagine no more patent wars, and all those millions upon millions in legal fees now pouring into R&D instead. O.K. back to reality.

I can imagine the lawyers for each side knowing each others families, asking how their kids are doing, where they're going on the family vacation. They must all be on first name basis with each other by now.

And if the above MR article were to pan out, they might all be downsizing their lavish lifestyles somewhat.

As an aside, I'm all for common ground, but there are deeper issues here.

No I dont mean whole Android market share. Just samsung. Its smartphone/tablets marketshare are increasing at a much faster pace than Apple year-on-year as well as quarter-on-quarter.

Ok, I missed the Samsung market share part. But I still don't know if that matters. Apples still one of the richest companies in the world. Samsung's not even close. The majority of Samsung's smartphones they sell are budget models.

Even so I bet samsung sells as many high end S and Note as apple. Samsung Mobile does make a lot of profit but not as much apple since samsung does not has such high profit margin as apple. It is better for consumers since they get better value for what they pay for.

Things have changed a lot in the past two years.

Samsung Electronics and Apple each made around $35 billion net profit last year, with Samsung edging out Apple in at least two of the quarters.

The majority of Samsung's smartphones they sell are budget models.

Last year almost 60% of Samsung's sales were $400 or higher. (Heck, these days even $300 phones are pretty darned nice and would hardly be called budget.)

And remember, percentages don't tell the whole tale, since we have to factor in that Samsung sells twice as many smartphones as Apple.

So if Samsung sold 30% high end, that's the same in actual quantity as 60% of Apple sales.

Personally, I don't why anyone worries about either company's revenues. They're both doing very well. I worry a lot more that HTC won't make it, and they've done some good stuff. It's just a pity that they signed a full utility patent cross license with Apple and it didn't seem to do them a bit of good, market wise.

Let's not forget that Iphone at full non-subsided price will NOT sell well. From what we know most Iphones are sold for $199 (and not > $500) with the rest of the cost hidden in monthly subscriptions.

In many countries where phone subsidy is low or not tied to phone model, very few really buy iphone due to its much higher price. They will buy galaxy (or the many chinese android) which at 2/3 or 1/2 the price of iphone but with equivalent or higher specs.

Excellent point.

I recently started adding up where all the iPhone sales were in 2013, and... not too surprisingly considering its full retail price... over 85% were in subsidized areas.

So, the overwhelming majority of iPhone buyers worldwide likely spent $200 or less upfront.

Reading between the lines. Apple just want Samsung to provide them with their new curved displays and to continue manufacturing the IPS panels with over 250 ppi's for Apple. Or what they call "Retina".
