I've heard of this to but going by the current price of the non retina pro (at least down here at the moment) I would expect the 13" Air to be a more tempting option.

I know!!! The Non Retina Pro is now $1549 even at JB Hifi!! Lol. People will still buy it because of the pro label, even though for some users the Air would be a better deal. The thing is thought that everything is more expensive. I don't know if that will translate into a complete drop in Retina Pro Sales and a pickup in Non Retina and Air sales, or just a pick up in Air sales...

The Non Retina Pro is massive with uni students who need lots of storage space, as well as PC to Mac switchers. I personally hope people keep buying them to get Apple to upgrade them, otherwise I don't know what I'll do with replacing my current Macbook when the time comes :'(

No. The battery charges when it's drained. The computer runs off of the power supply when plugged in. That is what is supposed to happen.

Are you suggesting we run down the battery fully in between charges and not run the computer off the power supply?

Yes.

I am fairly certain the system still cycles the battery. Meaning it lets the device charge to 100%, then it runs off battery till charge level hits 95% (maybe lower or higher but by like 1 or 2%), then charges back to 100%.

Correct. BUT, Apple recommends not using a Mac on power all the time, the battery needs to be exercised, literally. They recommend running it down once a week if you run it off power all the time

I think some people are missing the point in the new MacBook, there is a reason there is no moniker after the title no Pro, no Air just MacBook

The MacBook will eventually be seen as the entry level device, aimed at those who may need the functionality of a laptop but the portability of an ipad. The Air IMO will be re-invigorated and will probably take a similar form factor and be a middle road option between portability and power - maybe 2 USBC and possibly thunderbolt/HDMI where the Pro will be the powerhouse of the line with extra ports still having USB C but a few others also.

A three tier MacBook lineup similar to what will probably happen with the S iteration of the iphone (6C - entry level, 6S mid tier, 6S plus top tier) or the ipad (iPad mini, Ipad air, ipad Pro)

At present the cost is high, but the tech required to get the MacBook to operate is still new, so, maybe the prices will change when the lineup is reconfigured.

I agree. The MB12 is a lite Mac, does that make it bad? Underpowered? No. I read an article that the MB12 is a nice alternative to an iPad. Light, portable, and a full OS, that makes a lot of sense. perhaps Apple's response to SP3.

My iPad Air 128 costs circa NZ$1400, a MB12 costs $2000. Thats reasonable if I can use the MB12 as a pseudo iPad for portability, and its complete with the full OS.
