Dear complainers -

This thread is for iPhone. If you're here to insert your comment about the lack of MBP's, believe us, we've heard it. The only source you have that one is even in the pipe is MacRumors, which is hardly Apple's official outlet, so it's difficult to justify getting upset about something that Apple hasn't announced.

Twice the memory costs (about) twice as much. There has to be a price increase, as the price of this type of memory hasn't really gone down much in the last year. Hense, the price increase.

The reason for no 32GB iPhone yet is, if I recall, the radio for the cellphone takes up physical space, so there's not room for a second set of chips.

These are only my opinions.

Why did he call it "WiFi Mobile Device" instead of iPod?

Silly little monkey! People want iPods not "WiFi Mobile Devices," if you try to rebrand it like that you'll kill it.

now that the touch has reached the capacity of the smaller ipod 5.5G, the question is, how much longer does the ipod classic last? IMO it will not see another update. They'll keep it around until the big ipod event in the fall at which time we'll see the touch go to 64 GB and the classic disappear. People will complain for a while because the high-end capacity is gone, but 64 GB will be enough for most people, and 128 will follow by '09. I've yet to see a single ipod classic in the wild - I think it's only a matter of time until the touch becomes the only full-sized ipod.
Maybe? Remember that the big iPod Touch costs 2x more than the Classic, so the Classic still fills a niche at its price-point (IMO). :)

care to place a bet on that? :p

What, you think just because you'll buy one it will be a instant hit? Dream on.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there hasn't been a 500 dollar iPod ever, or at least in a long while. It's a bit much to pay for an mp3 player and a browser that works at Starbucs and while your sitting on the toilet in your own house.

Did anyone see this coming today? Were there any hints or leaks? Rumors?

No not really. I think this is something they were going to announce at macworld but for some reason didn't. It doesn't matter. This annoucement today was expected for early in the year. And the iphone 2.0 most likely will be later in the year.

Uk

No store closure yet in the UK or any sign of the new hardware. Is this normal?

Any confirmation of UK pricing yet?

According to Apple, its not happening in the UK yet. This seems strange, but they said the Touch and the iPhone had not yet been confirmed for the UK.

Unfortunately they are of 1.1.3 out of box and cannot be unlocked with software or sim sandwich at this time.

I can't understand why people still care about this. The SDK is coming out this month. Honestly, what 3rd party app do you need so badly that dealing with the current firmware for a few weeks is so horrible?

There have been multiple $499 iPods...but you're right, not for a while.

I have definitely browsed on my iPhone while on the toilet. 'Not sure what that says, but it's the truth! :p

Frankly, you dont care. there are so many people that wanted the MBP update.

we cannot wait, seeing as tho my gf needs a computer for uni...

the old mantra applies... If you need one now, get one now, if you can wait, wait.

The current machine is phenomenal with all bugs ironed out. Will be ahead of the curve for 4 years at least.

(I know what you mean though, I want the updates NOW)

This sucks. I give up, going to get a pc today

ROFL!

How do you like your MacBook Air? I was thinking of getting a MBP instead, but decided to go all out with a Mac Pro for home/office and then most likely an "Air" for doing the low-intensity stuff on/travel laptop. Seems ideal.

Oh, sweet on the 32 GB iPod Touch! Well done. Next year 64 SSD iPhone 2 :)

let's hope AT&T doesn't restart the 2 year contract if you upgrade your iPhone to 16GB...

This would be a very bad precedent for an unsubsidized phone... It's bad enough that they lock you in for 2 yrs initially. Anyone have any info on this yet??

You will know about a 3G iPhone a long time before its release because it can't get through the FCC without it being made public.

FCC approvals generally take 6 months so it is at least 6 months away, and I'd personally say a bit more than that.

Not accurate. FCC approval can take as little as 60 days.

Hopefully the new iPhone and iPod touch along this year will have Intel Silverthorne inside and a full Mac OS X 10.5.1. With Firewire as well. In other words, the full Mac computer in your pocket. Great for Keynote and PowerPoint presentations.

From the iPhone page on the Apple Store:

"Charges for international messages sent from the U.S. are 20¢ for Text Messages and 50¢ for Picture/Video Messages. Additional charges for premium messages and content apply. Messages over 300KB billed at additional 50¢ per message."

Since when does the iPhone send picture or video messages?? Could this be something new that's planning to be released with the SDK???

hhmm yea i wish i could buy it now, but its her decision and she wants to wait....i want it now, she doesnt :(

I am SOO with you on this! :)

And a very happy (unbroken) iPhone 8GB owner. This thing rocks, best phone ever for me. The SDK will make this thing fly, just watch the explosion of cool Widgets and Automator actions and what not on Apple's site, it's "insane" how fast the talented developers come out with cool apps. You'll have a few hundred games, applications, remote-control this-that-and-then-some apps etc. pp. at the end of the year. Or sooner. :) :apple: rocks
