Apple Announces 27-Inch iMac With Retina 5K Display Starting at $2500

Not possible until Thunderbolt 3. This was well known going into the event.

They may be able to do it with two TB2 together. Just release the display and an adapter that makes it connect to double TB2 on the Mac Pro.

I agree. Not that this iMac is nice, I was just crossing fingers for at least an updated display with TBolt 2 and a thinner profile.

Those chipsets just came out as well, there is no way they would be included as these products go through intensive testing months prior to launch, nothing should go wrong while running that 5K display.

And you think Apple wouldn't get samples of the 980M before public release? Apple has a history of getting early access of chips before other OEM's get them.

I can only assume people are going to refer to it as "5K iMac" or "iMac 5K, at least until there is more than one.

Though that makes it sound like an pre-90s product: The iMac 5000.

I suspect they will release a standalone in the future but supply constraints on he new 5k monitors might currently mean all screens are destined for iMac for now
