Eddy Cue is not impressive tonight. His basic justification for this deal is that Jimmy Iovine has an "ear for music" and music curation is important.

Cook made it very clear that the streaming service was the most important factor here.

Jimmy Iovine on Apple headphones: "They just make those to see if the sound works on their phone." Ouch. Wonder what Jony thinks about that.

Cue praises Comcast CEO. Clearly a deal with Comcast is coming.

Cue praises Comcast CEO Brian Roberts. "Brian is doing the best." Comcast is the best, you guys. Where is the bourbon.

ITT: People who have no clue about marketing penetration and strategy 101 bashing executives of a $650 billion company.

That's MR forums for you. If it were up to these people, Apple would never have developed the iPod or iPad. They tend to get outraged very easily.

Oh god no, not comcast.

Where did you get that ? I'm watching their interview right now and he hasn't said anything other than he has comcast cable.

I got that off the Verge. Where are you watching this? I thought they weren't streaming it live.

Eddy on iCloud (via the Verge live blog):

8:56:52 PM PDT
"We'll see what we can do" with iCloud storage. "We'll see what we can do" has pretty much been the iCloud motto since it launched.

Ok so you think Tim's decision to buy this ghetto brand for $3 billion was a good one for Apple's tight and high class brand that Apple has created and maintained for so long? Please explain to me why you think this was a good decision. Steve would NEVER agree to buy this garbage company.

It comes down to the fact that you are simply saying something you can absolutely not back up with any fact. It just amazes me how people around here are "Steve would never do THAT!"

"Steve this, Steve that." He's gone folks, you simply do not know what he would have done, as much as you like to believe you do.

Wow. HUGE difference between The Verge coverage and Recode's coverage of their own interview.

Seems like Recode is editing as they go. They don't want Apple to get mad at them is my guess.

Cue on Tim Cook and Apple's upcoming new products (via Verge live blog):

9:04:25 PM PDT
"He's extremely thorough, he has tremendous vision, he cares tremendously about building great products."

9:05:08 PM PDT
Cue: "Later this year, we've got the best product pipeline that I've seen in my 25 years at Apple."

Finally...someone with some sense. On hardware numbers alone this is plausible. Yet, Apple get's lambasted when others throw around even higher sums betting on someday.

I will continue to say it. Frankly, people amaze and bemuse me.

Most people cannot be self-critical and honest with themselves. What I am witnessing is a BS brigade in motion, page after page. There are a few people here who are honest. I revile their opinion, but I acknowledge their honesty.

The root issue of the acquisition of Beats has much less to do with the quality of the headphones and far, far more to do with Andre Young and what these people believe that he represents. That their sullied, pristine Apple corporation could soil its reputation by acquiring Beats and folding in the likes of Andre Young. This is not about Iovine, other than Iovine is looked on with less respect because he consorts with the likes of Dr. Dre.

Cue: "I've been working with Tim since 1997." Cue and Cook started the Apple online store together.

Recode :

Cue: I’ve been working with Tim for many many years. “He’s extremely thorough. He has tremendous vision.”

Censorship at it's finest by Recode.

Way to go Walt !!

Jony Ive = J. Ive = jive

Therefore, the new headphone line will be called "beats by jive."

Wonder why they're editing so much.

Anyway Cue just put a BIG FAT target on Apple saying that the products they're announcing later this year are the best products he's seen in his 25 years at Apple. That's really setting the bar high.

Darn I was really hoping for apples to do their own subscription service. With no artists holding out. I hope the beats service get linked into iTunes at least. Oh and released in Canada.

Only subscription available to us is Google Play Music All Access which is pretty good but certainly has it flaws.

Curious to know if the same artist(Coldplay, Beatles, Led Zepplin, Black Keys) not releasing music on Spotify and GPMAA are not on Beats as well?

Don't like how Beats also seems to be playlist created by experts based. I'd like the ability to listen to full albums and create my own playlists and have experts playlists as an option

I think Apple will regret working with Iovine and Dre when all is said and done. It sounds like they have musical smarts but no class.

Most of us on this board would have the common sense not to insult a company's products in public shortly after said company inked a three billion dollar deal with us.

It sounds like Iovine is acting like having three billion dollars from Apple suddenly makes him the king of 1 Infinite Loop. Sooner or later, someone on the Executive Team will put Iovine in his place.
