The majority of iPad users do not need the Pencil or the keyboard. That's who Apple is targeting. For those that are graphic artists, such as my wife who has the iPad Pro, the Pencil at $100 is a bargain and a great piece of technology. People who need these "add-ons" simply pay more. Those who don't, pay less.

I suppose, but I wasn't even considering an iPad without either of those accessories (the keyboard, especially, for taking notes in class). Either way, I will be getting it--wish the accessories were a bit less pricey, though.

i got to say, i hate saying "steve jobs wouldn't have done this would have done that" because the man is dead and nobody knows what he would or would not do.

but god damn, if steve jobs was alive, he would not approve that camera bump on a tablet that's meant to be used flat against a table. i have never felt sicker about apple's future than i am today.

all in all this event fails to introduce anything new, they could of have closed the online store and make the announcement online, oh well

I think the problem is that Siri is a search engine with limited control over the OS as a 'static' element. It's not true AI which is unfortunate. They really need to build a dynamic AI that " senses " your presence and where-ever you go, learning your patterns and likes/dislikes. Even if you walk past a coffeehouse you regularly go to, it should say " (name ) how about some coffee? You seem to go there a lot. " and then you respond back by voice " yes/no " or tap on the choices. Hell, even the front camera tech should sense you if the phone is set upright, then Siri should be interacting with you when you're walking or sitting about in the home.

You should also be able to control the entire OS by voice if need be when driving. I tried to open FB using Siri and it required using Touch ID or passcode. It should also allow you to log on social media by voice as well, or say your passcode without touching the screen. What the hell was Apple thinking?

The problem with Apple is the ' vanity ' projects they keep spending too much time on rather than the practical ones.

Siri is almost a joke in 2016. It could be much better integrated providing full system and third-party apps control, so you could really use your phone hands-free and the screen would be active while you're doing this. "Open this app, now do that, show me that, copy this picture/sentence/paragraph, send it to Mike via iMessage, check online status for Jane and call/message her on the first service where she's online. When Mike replies, read it to me." Everything of that is possible, it's just a laziness or blindness. What changed since it was introduced? Nearly nothing.

But I was talking about a different thing, the bio sensors which would constanly gather and analyze user's key parameters and build a whole picture, telling him if something goes wrong or needs attention. But Cook said he doesn't want to deal with FDA or whatever is the organization who approves such medical devices, so he'll probably just sell wristbands and crippled watches until it's too late.

This is exactly my feeling as well. It has every feature I want but I don't use a case with my iPad (and I really tried to find a case I liked too. I hate them all). I'm looking at my current iPad Air right now right next to my old nexus 5 (which has a protruding camera) Whenever I touch the the nexus it rocks. Not a big deal on a phone but a huge annoyance on a large tablet. And all for a camera that really how many people need to be THAT good?!

Agreed. I was going to preorder one, until I saw the lens. I'm not being forced to buy a case to overcome a design flaw. I don't use cases on my apple products and don't want an iPad with the extra bulk.

If someone is going to be using the iPad to replace thier PC workflow for photography, thier camera is going to be leagues better than the iPad . Silly silly decision to turn a stable device into one that wobbles and claim it as a PC replacement.

The "Pro" apps you use to edit video audio and photos in appstore are not even close to pro.
You need to use mac or pc

any one else chuckled when they said it's a PC replacement
I do, especially when not long ago they used to make fun of Microsoft's surface line, saying that tablets are consumption only devices, only to rip them off later and pretend they invented a category

This new iPad is a surface 3 ripoff , just like the bigger one is surface pro 3/4 ripoff

Yes, VAT is included in EU prices, but:

iPad Air 2 at launch started at 499$/499€.

iPad Pro 9.7" starts at 599$/689€.

Sales taxes did not change as far as I know. Moreover, inflation has been close to 0% in EU. You still have a +100$ increase in US and a +189€ (+213$) increase in EU...

More powerful than an Xbox 360 is quite a cool boast. Not to take that away from them, but it's kind of funny for a number of ways.

a) the xbox 360 was introduced 10 years ago.

b) the chipset for the 360 was based on the the IBM PPC - Alpha kits for the 360 were ... Power Mac G5s. So what Apple is telling us is that these iPads exceed the G5 - well it is slightly lighter :D
As I mentioned in another reply, the fact that Apple went out of their way to compare to a game console for the first time, says something, I believe. Yes it may be to older technology, but I think it points to the fact that Apple may be interested in going after the console space. I was actually surprised that the statement happened with the ipad and not the ATV.

[wishing I could delete this very redundant post]

They said Xbox 360. You know, from, like 2005. It was an odd thing to say about a product released in 2016.

Because Apple is desperate. They got to milk what's left of the iPhone.

The already through desktop users to the sharks and it's clear they don't give a darn about us anymore.

I may seriously consider selling my Air 2 and wacom tablet to get one of these and a pencil.

Part of it is the exchange rate.

My guess is the majority of iPads are used with at least smart covers that are folded back. Apple probably concluded that a camera upgrade would help sell the deal for many users. Otherwise they'd have just used the same camera as the 12.9" Pro.

Also, the iPad wasn't really meant to be used flat against a table. It was meant to be picked up and held. That's why Steve Jobs insisted the first version have the rounded back. He might not have liked the camera bump but that would have been for aesthetic reasons.

This iPad Pro is getting a lot of good reviews from casual users. It has a lot of bells and whistles but is not bulky like the 12.9" iPad Pro.

Please. A 1mm camera bump on a 230mm long device yields an angle of 0.25 degrees. In other words, as you can read about on any review for this device - this is negligible to the point of non-existent. It's an aesthetic imperfection, not a functional one.

i don't think the camera will be an issue on the new iPad. The cases will be built to accommodate. I love my 12 IPP but could see myself with the 9.7 with the keyboard and silicone case like i have on my current.
