Roughly 30M tracks on Apple Music, Over 43M tracks in Itunes Store.
Didn't think there was 2 separate things AM/iTunes Store. Keen to know where this data came from? I'm curious to find out if this is actually the case. I was assuming it was any and every song Apple had.

This is the most moronic thing I've read in a while, so thank you. If I'm wrong, then point me to the EXACT place is says that Apples entire iTunes catalog of music will be available to download for Apple Music subscribers.

For the record, I personally do not believe this is correct, but you asked so here goes...

What do I get with an Apple Music membership?

Apple Music has everything you already know and love in Beats Music. Plus, you can play all of the songs in the iTunes catalog, get more handcrafted playlists and expert recommendations, enjoy unlimited radio, and connect with your favorite artists in a new way.

The over 43M songs available on itunes is stated on Apple's website. The over 30M songs is what they stated in their press release for Apple Music, which is pretty much the same size at Spotify's library.

This is what they should have done years ago. This may not be very new, but compared to the early streaming services this is awesome.

I am not one of the people Apple will get to pay each month for the music service. That said, I don't want my music app to have anything but my music, not even itunes radio. Am I the only one?

Okay, but I'm still not paying $10 a month for THAT, whatever you call it.
See, I gave Apple so much money since 1984, I don't care what others might think is right, and I still decide what I buy or not.
That's absolutely fine with me. It just gets pretty old seeing kneejerk Apple-bashing on an Apple forum, and bashing that isn't even well-informed.

If you won't pay $10 for this then it's clearly not aimed at you. It's literally the same exact price as every other competing service's premium level. In fact, Apple wanted to price it at 7.99 to undercut the competition but there was too much pushback from the record companies.

Ahh, thanks. Wondering where they came from.
I wonder which labels/indie artists make up the 13million that aren't a part of that.

I still plan on purchasing music, but I love the fact I can now use the majority of all Apple's music and stream it. Casting a wider net to listen to things I've never heard before, and then buying it one album at a time.

Spotify free is not that good outside of your computer. You can't pick individual songs and it has ads. It's only 10 dollars a month lol that's lunch money for most people.

Hey there,

do you know if it's going to be possible to sync the tracks that I download for offline use to my iPod Classic? Yeah, I'm still one of those dinosaurs using an iPod classic, and the "listen to your music offline" feature would only make sense for me if it allowed me to actually put these songs on my 160GB iPod classic.

Anyone with iTunes Match know if Apple will be offering any discounts for people who already pay $24.99/year for that service?

You're not the only young person that likes The Beatles. Don't understand those kinds of comments.

It isn't moronic. More like confusion caused by the horrible job Apple did at explaining ... well ... anything at all ... at the keynote. Now I'm wondering just how much music will be available in Apple Music when it's released.

The Beatles still sell 1 million albums a year, some one is still buying them, and it's not your gram pa!

I'm in the exact same situation. My plan now is to just try the free months and see how I like it. I didn't get Prime for music in the first place and it's like a gravy deal. It is excellent though and you can get a lot of music. I've seen some say the Beatles aren't streaming but they are on Prime. I have one playlist with 50 Beatles songs.

What songs do you have in your playlist? I'm guessing semi/legal titles? There is no legal streaming contract for The Beatles with any service, nor for George Harrison.

Considering the confusion by many over what exactly this is and how it fits in with the rest of Apple's offering one would think this announcement was made by Microsoft, not Apple.
Yeah, I think the presentation missed big time when it came to focusing on what was really important.

  • Way too much time talking about the new radio service (which, to most people, is 'just another radio station - why should I pay for that?')
  • Too vague when it comes to how much of the iTunes library one gets access to.
  • Way too little focus on the benefits of streaming. Lots of people - even here on this forum (where, admittedly, quite a few are so cozy within the walled Apple garden that they barely know what is happening in technology on the outside) - obviously has no concept about what streaming really is and that things like local caching of files is an important factor so you do not have to run up your cell phone bill every time you listen to one of your favorite tracks.
  • The focus on manually curated playlists seemed a bit off - this is nothing new at all. Other services already do this very well (Spotify on a large scale) as a supplement to more automatic solutions like 'artist radio', 'playlist radio', 'genre radio', 'mood radio', 'time of the day-radio' and so on.

Not announced. But given that it appears Apple Music duplicates the iTunes Match feature, you likely won't pay that $25/year for iTunes Match since you won't need it. But people who don't do Apple Music can still use it.

That's the best guess.

My best guess is iTunes Match will still allow downloading of matched tracks to your library forever. Apple Music will match your library in the cloud but will not permit downloading to local library. Time will tell

Since you might not have been paying attention, yes, they want you to pay $10 a month for the radio in your car.

You get FM radio, and you even get AM radio. No data connection necessary. You just use the antenna that's part of your car. Here's the one more thing: you get to listen to all the songs and talk shows broadcasted over the airwaves, 24/7!

OH!, so there are three minutes worth of ads for every 10 minutes broadcast on Apple Music? Just like the car radio? Or are the ads gone, along with that $10 bill?

Even ON the computer spotify is crappy, because the interface is awful and frustrating.

Reading over at Macworld that Apple Music will stream at 256kbs is less that what I expect. Today I compared Spotify, iHeartRadio, and iTunes Radio and the worst was iTunes radio. Listening on my headphones it had the least pleasant sound stage, less balance, and weak mid-bass. Not sure I'm gonna subscribe. Trial will tell.
