I get the battery life issues as I have a portable AirPlay enabled speaker that only gets about 4 hours of battery life before needing to be charged.

It would be nice to have a decent option with both Bluetooth and AirPlay, especially one with Apple's influence.
It'd be nice, for sure, but with Bluetooth you're restricted by bandwidth. Low Power = Low Bandwidth, for now.

But honestly, I use a Bluetooth speaker for 90% of my music listening, and I'm fine with it. (Could use a bit more bass, but I paid $49 for it.)

I'm not. My cheapest was more than that.

LOL!

My sub alone was $900 used, and broken. "Decent" may be a subjective term.

Agree 100%. And on top of it all, you have an audio system that likely will last you decades. In general, these portable battery-operated speakers have a relatively short life span.

There are good values in audio out there. But it is absolutely a space where the old "get what you pay for" phrase is applicable, particularly with speakers.

Is the $229 Pill worth it? Totally up to the user. However, the pure physics of sound dictate that it will not be able to produce a full range of frequencies and volume of a larger speaker. So, comparing it to anything other than small/portable speakers is useless.

Wait wait wait, so you paid almost a grand for a used broken piece of equipment? Really?

Didn't realize it was broken, seems the guy tried to rip me off. Guess he didn't know the mfgr had an excellent warranty. Rather than fighting with the jerk, I had it fixed within a couple weeks for free. MSRP was $1300, they are still going for $600 used over a decade later.

Unless you've heard a Riva Turbo X.

Except that's almost $200 more than the UE BOOM, isn't waterproof and as portable.

Maybe a better comparison would be the UE MEGABOOM which is still cheaper with more functionality not to say that the mentioned speaker doesn't sound good.

I responded to "UE Boom is still the best Bluetooth speaker". There was no mention of cost, portability, or other environmental utility. The Riva trumps the UE speakers (and really everything else mentioned in this thread) at their primary purpose - being a speaker... sonics and all that jazz.

True if money cost isn't an issue ue boom isn't the best Bluetooth speaker you can get although the ue megaboom looks promising with the same functionality as the ue boom at $300

Note above I said "UE speakers". The megaboom was one of the speakers I cross-shopped - no contest.

So you've actually listened to it and compared the two side by side? Amazon reviews say the differences are not as black and white.
