Wi-Fi 16GB

US $499.00 is £340

UK is £429 including VAT

VAT is 17.5%

US price £340
UK price £354

£14 more – I'm buying one.

The UK price without VAT is £365... you don't just take 17.5% off the final value, it's 100/117.5 x £429. You're also forgetting that US prices are listed without sales tax which varies from state to state. The US price for the iPad 16gb was more around £320 when they were available in stores a few weeks ago, but obviously physically getting the unit will add cost above it's final retail price too.

The price is not as low as hoped, but pretty much exactly as expected.

It's £25 difference when the pound has fallen to its lowest in 13 months - the day after it's been announced we have a hung parliament which has caused the investors to act cautious. As soon as the political situation is sorted out, it will rise again. So Apple have taken advantage of the lower pound-doller. Probably why they waited because any change in government would have the same effect.

Perhaps you should take more of an interest in current affairs/think a bit bigger, eh?

I think you're flattering yourself there. I'm pretty sure Apple had their dates picked out before the hung parliamentary vote happened. I'm sorry, things from Apple ALWAYS cost more in Europe. This isn't because the pound is lower than normal. Our prices do not include taxes, yours do.

I don't think Apple really cares about who your prime minister is or who is running your parliament. Don't assume "ignorant Americans" don't understand "the world," since clearly the UK parliament is the most important thing ever. I know what is happening and I still barely care. Side note: I think Nigel Farage is insane, but the fact you guys let him have a seat in the EU parliament is hilarious.

A predictable price given that it's roughly half the cost of a polycarbonate MacBook in both US and UK. A £429 price point isn't as big a deal as $499 is in the US though. Hopefully the £ will strengthen up in the coming months and we'll see a much more reasonable £399 for the holiday season.

The only seat he got was on a hospital bed. He clearly lost by a long way.

Good point, I wasn't sure if duty was charged. If it is 22% then the premium would reduce to between -£4 (i.e. slightly cheaper than the US) through to £20.

HMRC stated back when the US imports started arriving that the iPad does not attract duty charges, only VAT.

True. Why wait a month when you can take a ten minute drive to France og Germany. Seems like it's only on there for show.

Yeah it's like with those turn-by-turn navigation apps that say they have maps for four countries, those being Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, with Liechtenstein having just 140 km of roads in total and less inhabitants than a mid-sized village ;-) But hey you can navigate in FOUR countries, not just in THREE!! ;-)

I dont understand why they are not coming to Denmark, Sweden or Noway??
Are we outsiders or what??

I am very disapointed...

Do you guys think that the new iphone 4g will come to Denmark or it will also not come there??

We have the 3G & 3GS, but now i am a bit scared cause of iPad not coming...

I thought he still has a seat as a member of EU parliament for the south east?

Don't try and be clever, you changed your post :p He is, but that's under a completely different proportional representation system. But this isn't the politics forum so let's get back on topic.

No need to be so disrespectful. Compared to some of the nut-jobs who take up public office in the US our lot a fairly tame. Though I agree he's insane. UKIP tends to attract the lunatic fringe.

Back on topic - those prices are fairly good. The pound may climb by a few more percentage points but it's not likely to get much about $1.65 any time soon.

I can't see these things flying off the shelves for that price in the UK...

Good, if no one buys it, they will reduce the prices, wishful thinking though.

At that price it's more expensive than most laptops, I think the basic model should have started at £300.

Thanks, but I don't one of these that much!

Thanks for the clarification - that means the UK price premium is between approximately £17 and £41 right now (with £1 = $1.474 and VAT at 17.5%). Not an unreasonable price.

It is stupid that they are not selling it in Mexico already. Being so close to the United States, some people are making a fortune by importing them and selling them at almost double the price in Mexico's ebay equivalent . By July, everyone who wants one here will most likely have one.

I know what you mean, but that's also happening all over the world and including the US too. I saw craigslist invaded by people selling the 16 GB iPad for $800. Not so much now, or at least not at those prices, but it did happen.

Also, I'm thinking they (Apple) were waiting for the 3G models to be ready before announcing it in the international market. So I'm sure they made a deal with Telcel (I guess) to carry the data plan for the iPad.

Other than that man, sorry. I got mine and whenever I take it to Mexico some people also have one, but very few so I'm sure a lot of people will get them once they come out properly in Mexico.

Do you think places like Liverpool and Office Max will carry it? I'm guessing Liverpool at some point, Office Max I'm not so sure.

Pretty much what I expected the prices to be in the UK. Wouldn't have complained if it was less, but no shock for me. I'll be buying the 64GB 3G model.

£11 less than a payg iPhone!!
New iPhone first for me!!

Unbelievable - you losers. It's £25 difference for the 16gb, not £100

TAKE OFF THE VAT, AND REALISE THAT US PRICES DO NOT INCLUDE SALES TAX

Sheesh.

What the hell? It's freaking against the law in most places to quote prices without tax. No wonder Apple always come up with some BS price (eg $199 iphone) that never reflects what people actually pay. They should pass a rule in the US to force all products to be quoted and priced tax inclusive.

I guess you were already writing your post before I could clarify my "seat."

:p I didn't mean to side track, I just wanted to mention I found him hilarious.

Really, the iPad prices are exactly what I expected for the UK. We'll see what the Euro prices are soon I guess, right?

The problem with that is: We don't have a national sales tax, we have nothing like the VAT.

Sales tax in the US is made by adding local sales tax to state sales tax. And each state and local have different rules about what is even taxable.

Yeah but it's how things are working in the US, prices are always without VAT b/c most states have a different VAT and you'd have to print like dozens of different prices on each product.

I was going to get one, but I think I'm going to pass. take £75-£100 off and I'll consider it.

but atm, :apple: can whistle for £429.
